Pachter: Twisted Metal quip "a guess"
"It's the game I hope he's working on."
Analyst Michael Pachter has told Eurogamer that what he said about a Twisted Metal PS3 game was "a guess".
"I know nothing about what David [Jaffe] is working on, other than that it is a 'really great game', according to him, but I suppose that goes without question," he said.
"My Twisted Metal comment is purely conjecture, it's the game I hope he's working on, but I do not have confirmation from him about it, and have not been briefed by anyone under NDA.
"It wasn't a slip," he added, "it was an intentional comment, and it is just my best guess as to what he's working on. For the sake of the gaming community, I hope I'm right."
Michael Pachter mentioned Twisted Metal in an interview when reeling off solid games that were coming to PS3. Jaffe later tweeted that what Pachter had said was "a joke".
A PS3 version of Twisted Metal has not been confirmed. Jaffe, co-creator of the series, is adamant he's not making the game.
Michael Pachter is an analyst for US mega-investor company Wedbush Morgan. But is he a man or a robot? Who else starts work at 4.30am and then leaves at 4pm? We investigated in Being Michael Pachter.

If it was, then if I'm remembering correctly it was pretty clear (at least to me) that he was joking from the context and delivery.

His recent acusing people hating online-DRM (AC2 on PC) as being pirates (PachAttack on Gametrailers), had me wondering if he knows ANYTHING about how consumers think. I was stunned.
I don't know why people and the media continue to listen to him.

"Man knows nothing about specific game," says man who knows nothing about games.

So when Pachter says he "guessed", that is right in line with his job title.
This really shouldn't be news to those who know what his job entails. He isn't a seer, he doesn't get insider info and divuldge it. When he estimates how much something will sell, it's an educated guess.
OR he is in league with the DEVIL!
@ NotMyRealName RE: DRM
Pirates are thieves. DRM while not 100% effective does thwart some piracy. You are paying more for your games today because of pirates. You are paying for the development of DRM because of pirates. Companies aren't just going to eat losses forever, they will take it out of the next guy who actually pays for it.
DRM has done a great deal to thwart pirates. To this day you don't see a ton of PS3 mods out their because of Sony's complex DRM scheme that is built into the Cell Processor.
You know there are people out there with talents that deserve to be paid for them. Your attititude toward devices to try to increase the value of their talents is appalling. If companies didn't use ANY DRM and I could just burn you a copy of anything you wanted don't you think piracy would be WAY more widespread?
Piracy isn't the process of hacking DRM, piracy is stealing software. Hacking may be required to do it. I think you got your terms wrong. Many hackers are indeed pirates, but hacking isn't the same as piracy.
