This is the game to beat... I tried some multiplayer and I was impressed. The design is indeed aimed at the Games Workshop crowd. Probably did in on purpose as not to compete with Halo's more "civilised" characters. Anyway... Testosterone FTW! ;)

Can't wait for this! Bought my Xbox at the weekend and I'm loving it! Alas, according to GI, this game is for "teenage boys with anger management problems". Oh well! :(

I also can't believe how hung up people are getting over the whole 'gritty/testosterone-fuelled/teenage/space marine' aesthetic. it's milked to the point of being camp and ridiculous: just roll with it

Never a less true sentence said. A similar post on the video thread claiming this game doesn't take itself seriously - ugh. Definitely too macho-gunboy for me. Seems to be a love it or hate it game at the moment from what I've read of people's opinions.

Does look good, and the co-op play will add a lot of life to it.

Would like to see some more variety though, but there's plenty more to see methinks.

superb gag the one with the caption "village people around the year 2345" i reckon they need a guy like 'the comic guy' or apu from the simpson to add some charm. now that would be hilarious. although i can't imagine how bad the game will get when playing on-line with the idiotic american kids. I have been on the end of one of the tirades against anyone non-american.

This,Bioshock and Assassin's creed are my biggies over the next *hopefully* six months, graphically this looks amazing and in my opinion bar MGS4 nothing much else comes close to it at the moment, and i'm glad the guy's playtest didn't reveal a choppy framerate, something I was dreading.Only other niggling annoyance is the games length,10-12 hours is a bit short for something so hyped.
Ohh well roll on Nov 17th.

The soulless design I could live with - it's a lot more worrying that I am not convinced Epic know how to do a good single-player/coop game.

I like.... bar the mention of "downloadable content".... as long as this isnt anything that affects the single player game, and is just stuff like multiplayer maps, then I dont mind too much, but if its going to be stuff that also affects the single player campaign, then Im not a happy chappy.

Thankyou... kind of what I was going to say. If the game is just like an eighties action movie (all guns blazing, wafer thin plot, cheesy dialogue and one-liners), then I'm definately in! Sure a good plot is important, in certain types of games, but the most important thing is whether its fun to play, and from what I keep reading it certainly is that.

Don't know what the big problem is over the design. It's macho gun toting space marines ala "aliens" and "predator", and frankly I can't wait to kill some alien scum.

There are only a couple of nagging doubts: for a start, the pumped up character design instantly knocks it down the demographic scale, and the dialogue was positively eye-rolling in its testosterone-fuelled predictability.

Yeah if I was making a balls-out armageddon sci-fi shooter my main character, last hope for humanity, would be a 59yr old female librarian from Torquay!

Is it me, was this laced with a slight dose of cynisim? What's the big deal with a big, bulky main guy? I don't see people being cynical over your typial RPG sword-wielding character? (Lost Odyssey included).

Either way, no matter what you give this game when it comes out......you (EG) loose.

"The most important facet of any shooter is how it feels, and there's no doubt that Gears of War feels 'right' from the moment you pick up the pad."

You have no idea how relieved I am to read that:-)

I'm probably more hyped for Resistance (Aliens in England, can't beat it!) but I'm really looking forward to this too...

GRAW with grouchy, steroid-pumped space marines?

As much as I want this to be great and as big a fan of UT i am, after Unreal 2 and Pariah, I would be ok with that, to be honest.

But despite underling

Nik Nak or Oddjob? No OddJob because hes too hard to shoot (but easier to get headshots).
