Overlord PS3 demo surfacing today News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

15 May, 2008

Codemasters has plonked the PS3 demo for Overlord on the PlayStation Store, which is a better place for it than in our pocket.

The publisher also cackled a 20th June release date for the full game, which it is calling an "extra evil" version of what we saw a while back on 360 and PC.

Why? Well, it has all the downloadable updates added to those in the box, such as online co-op, split-screen play, the on-screen mini-map and the Raising Hell expansion.

It should also look rather nice and make use of 7.1 speakers, which is rather a lot of sound.

Overlord, for those unaware, puts you in the boots of a despotic, er, Overlord, who has an army of minions to help him rampage through happy-go-lucky villages littered with helpless innocents.

The more successful you are, the bigger and more elaborate you can make your keep, and the more types of minion you will be able to add to your marauding army.

Its Dungeon Keeper-like delights thrilled us last summer on Xbox 360, so for anyone with half-an-ear for what we just said, this may be for you.

Pop over to our Overlord and Overlord: Raising Hell reviews to find out more.

Awesome game, if for some insane reason you haven't bought this already for your PC or 360 then buy it them. Though obviously if you only have a PS3 you might as well get the late port ;-)

Seems interesting, good to have a demo to have a blast on. Never heard of the game in the first place!

edit, just read the 360 comments thread. Seems a touch marmite for some people. Thing is I've got loads of unfinished games as it is, still haven't experienced the joys of COD4 and Burnout, plus MGS4 is coming up and that is a must buy regardless.

Looks like this will be on my 'keep an eye out for a £25 copy' list.

I hadn't heard of it until recently (about 3 months ago) and then got it for the PC, and it's great... very funny and just different. This is one of those games where though it was great on the PC, i really think it will play better on the console. It's on my list to get for the PS3.

Demo froze my PS3 - I mean, not only the GameOS subsystem but so that I could not use the PS button to quit the GameOS subsystem. Not a good sign... then again, I have the PC version already, and prefer the older Dungeon Keeper games this derives from.

Demo worked fine here no problems, though it was a little short (dont remember the PC version being that short, perhaps I just completed it quicker, having played it before) :)

Anyone know its exact release date?

Worked fine on my PS3 also. But it seemed to be a sloppy port. Can anybody compare it to the 360 version reg. framerate and graphics?

@Beano - I tried the PS3 demo last night and I own the 360 version. The demo is identical to the one released on the 360 last year and is a very competent port. Graphically the game looks a little sharper than the 360 version to me, thanks to slightly weaker anti-aliasing, but the framerate definitely feels poorer, although it doesn't tarnish the game in any way. Otherwise both versions seem to be pretty similar really.
