Overlord PC demo released News

PC News by Tom Bramwell

11 June, 2007

Codemasters has thrown up an Overlord PC demo, and it's left a nasty stain all over their website. This one, which is where you can download it, unless you're too lazy, and prefer direct links (1.06GB).

Like its Xbox 360 colleague, released last week, the PC demo lets you throw on the clanky armour of an Overlord and order your minions around The Mellow Hills, gathering life-force from unwilling sheep, and perhaps giving your rabble a few pumpkin helmets as payment. There's also a showdown with a Guard Troll, to which you'll doubtless look forward.

The full game has been confirmed for PC and Xbox 360 release on 29th June, and is much as it sounds - a game about bossing your way through a fantasy land. If the demo isn't enough to keep you interested until then, why not read our enthusiastic hands-on preview, or play around with the "Desktop Minion e-toy" Codies has tossed into the Downloads section of its official website. That's what we'd do. If we didn't have jobs, anyway.

Codemasters servers all screwed up for the release of the DiRT (pc) demo too. Pretty good going! Maybe they should move into digital distro.

Why don't companies use torrents for demos ffs? Speaking of which, whatever happened to Eurofiles?

because the temptation would be to big to download the whole game instead of just the demo?

Woo! Good job, Verwandlung!

Was hoping Fileshack would put it up soon - I hate to see my Mercury (Preen preen) account go to waste! :D

Verwandlung: How does a demo being available via bit torrent make people more likely to pirate a game? Really don't see the link there.

If it runs on a Radeon 9500 it only requires PixelShader 2.0 since that's what that card supports.

Yes, this is exactly what BitTorrent was originally designed to do, it's just also the best P2P tool as well. Plus, if the full game's not out yet, varying the method of download will not automagically allow you to play all of it. Nor does using it make you a pirate. Torrentism! =P

You will find this on torrent sites, just don't expect Codemasters to link you to it.

It's a fun game - a bit system heavy, I suppose, but mine is starting to err on the side of old.

If I get a new rig I'll certainly get the game.

What's with the camera, it's so restrictive, it's driving me insane. Don't like the ultra-generic cartoon style and the cliché "we're so evil" humour, either.

The destructive environments are fun, though.

Ack! This is driving me insane! How in the seven pants of Om would they NOT include the ability to reverse the y-axis of the mouse?! Demo ruined. Game under question. But yes, luverly, I got the option to configure my bloomin' gamepad of which I have zero, nil, zip, nada. Oi, people, get real, PCs are a VERY big market - don't slag them off, you'll just get burned.

Downloaded the bugger from UK servers vie Gamershell at over 600 KB/s. About two hours ago. Just look at my previous post.

Control scheme's a bitch as well, my mouse kept cutting out for some reason.

It's fun but I don't see it holding my attention too long. I'll pick it up later in the year probably, for a lower price. Not worth triple A title price imho.
