Battlefield came out (10th Sept 2002) after Operation Flashpoint (22nd June 2001) so in fact Battlefield is actually the clone.

I think he's referring to the style of gameplay. BF1942 was very much an arcade game and didn't really copy OFP.

Here's hoping. Not liking the references to GRID that keep cropping up all over the place, that WAS a watered down experience if ever there was one and pretty much left the TOCA fans behind.

I want this game so bad.
The original was pure gaming crack for me (and still is).
This game is what 2009 is all about.

Spring does not seem that far off seeing as how little we have really seen of the game. I am thinking slipage is likely.

Glad to see they are not dumbing it down. I loved the first game and that 12 year old children couldn't play a proper FPS, take out the kids and bring in the men!

I worry about codemasters they tend to over time ruin good IP for me, however I'm hopeful Op Flash will remain true to it's ancestry tbh if it's 80% with next gen gfx then its a buy from me I loved that game the ai was pretty good for the time and certainly didn't allow gun and run.

I'm not convinced. The game looks like a fairly conventional FPS. Watch the gamespot interviews: no proper aim simulation, small field of view, etc.

realism = masochism, huh? Realism is what you're supposed to strive for, if you want to compete with ARMA 2, which is set for roughly the same release date.

It's not really based on a real situation. Russia and Japan havea dispute over those northern islands (the fictional island in the game is located amongst them). Russia occupied them at the end of WW2 and has since refused to give them back. China plays no part and if it were to invade I couldn't see the west coming to the rescue of the occupying Russkies since they don't belong to them anyway.

It's the other way around. Ruskies discovered the island, Japs occupied it, now it belongs to the Yanks. Chinks have nothing to do with it.

In the game or in reality?

I'm referring to reality. The northern territories are under Russian occupation at the moment. They seized them towards the end of WW2. Hence Japan still hasn't signed a peace treaty with Russia.

My understanding in the game was that it's occupied by the Russians and the Chinese invade. America comes to the rescue of Russia. The island itself doesn't actually exist, but it's been placed within the Northern Territories. That's about as close to reality as the game gets.

Still it's going to kick arse.

What i was worried about was the quality of OFP2 now that it's in Codemasters hands and not BISs. OFP is one of my favourite games of all time for its realism and attention to detail. When i heard of OFP2s multi-platform development i feared Codemasters would make some sort of BF2 clone but as i said that's looking less like the case every day :)

Looks amazing, but I don't like the sound of the console multiplayer filling the game up with AI squads for you to control.........Would much prefer dedicated servers for this! If Kaos can do 50 plyaer with Frontlines, codemasters have no excuse!

I kinda want to believe, but much of this sounds and looks too good to be true. Here's hoping..

I enjoyed the first game and the fact that this appears to be more of the same with a more streamlined AI can only be a good thing.

I'm seeing a gradual move away in games from killing brown people, now it's the turn of those slanty eyed people.

OF was and probably is the best sim-war games ever for PC, even the XBOX version was brilliant, forget about arcade stuff like CoD, MoH or even Ghost Recon series, none of those can compare with OF, the game is so open for all kind of play styles and strategies, I remember the feeling of tension and fear was simply amazing.

I can't wait to play this one on a big TV, really.

Dear Codebastards:

Are you going to do a proper dynamic campaign (as seen in the MFCTI mod for the original) or are you going to create this huge island and huge amount of weapons and equipment... and then piss it all away on a tedious linear scripted campaign for the sake of a half-baked story nobody gives a toss about?*

What a shame that Bis must air there dirty linen like this in public, i hope the gamers dont suffer.
after all is it really worth it ? just because one chap put on his linkedin profile that he independently worked on ofp:cwc and a magazine writer miss interprets it, if this little thing warrants the CEO of BIS and there Community manager to write all this ,it begs the question why they didnt with the Darwars Ambush problem like this then maybe i could see the consistency and true loyalty to there fans.
