OnLive early adopters get first year free

First 25,000 sign-ups also get free game.

OnLive is offering the first 25,000 people who pre-registered for the game-streaming service a free year's subscription and a free game.

Big Download discovered the unaccountably generous offer via an email, having signed up for pre-registration earlier this year when the early-adopters offer was just three free months.

If you aren't already one of these lucky not-so-few, too bad - OnLive is not taking any more sign-ups before it launches in the US on 17th June.

OnLive recently announced an exclusive partnership with BT in the UK. Launch plans will be reveaked later this year.

That means that they won't have to pay the $14.95 p/month base subscription for the first 12 months, but will still need to pay for the rental of the games.

In case you're wondering the $14.95 lets you download demos, multiplayer, video cap & posting, cloud saving, multiplat-pausing, and social aspects like chat and messaging.

    "Reveaked"

    It's a perfectly cromulent word.

Partnership with bt?! The same bt that gives me a 10gb limit and charges if I go over? Good luck with streaming games over that.

Indeed, its use embiggens the article.

As a concept i'm very interested to see how this turns out.

Completely agree with this. I stream loads of stuff but luckily we are on a broadband package from a few years ago that does not have a monthly download limit. This is frustrating because I can't upgrade the speed of my package without getting a download limit, but on the other hand, I don't have a download limit! Anyway, 8meg broadband is fast enough for most of my uses.

Better ask them to take their hands off the throttle if you want it to work OnLive.

How is this news? Should'nt there have been an article before the offer expired? :)

Looks like they're pretty concerned about their ability to establish a userbase...

    Smart move.

Partnering with BT though, that is professional suicide.

The same BT with ridiculously low download caps, constant connection dropping which makes playing anything with BT-using friends online difficult, and the routers which require some serious work to get around the strict NAT on them, as they foil most port forwarding attempts?

That's like the Hasidic holy fellowship announcing a partnership with Hitler for their continued prosperity.

Does anyone know what the costs are for this in the UK? Clearly they're asking for a price per game, plus a monthly cost to play. With the need for a very good internet connection, I'm not sure what the advantage is of this over buying a console... or a second-hand gaming PC for that matter.
