Looking good. I especially like this one: http://images.eurogamer.net/assets/artic...

No idea what's going on there but it sure looks nice. And it's out on my birthday as well!

Before anyone complains about the borders, they've already confirmed the game will ship with a full 16:9 setting! :P

Right so now we have a better idea of just how un-16:9-like that widescreen ratio really is if the placement of the EG logo and size of the black side borders are anything to go by. Guess I'll stick to playing Wii games on my 21" Sony CRT TV then where they look pretty darn good through RGB SCART (it is still an excellent TV IMO).

If you compare the images with the PS2 shots you will also notice that the parchment filter is missing. This has also been added in a later build and is not in the build from which those screens are taken. Just mentioning it because there as been quite a discussion about this in the forums.

Looks great, but really the best improvement they could make to this wonderful game would be to re-pace it - maybe ditch the entire latter third.

@konnsky - No it didn't but having played it on the PS3 in 60Hz @ 1080p with the Full Screen option on to stretch it to widescreen, I didn't really notice because even stretched to 16:9 the game looks perfectly fine because of the art-style it uses.

Elliptic circles look just as wrong even when they are cell shaded.

I think the bloom lighting from the PS2 version is missing. The screenshot of the animal feeding bit looks nowhere near as good as on PS2. Still, it looks very nice!

Well I would hope they add that back in, like they have with the parchment filter. There's no reason not to.

unless the bloom was added to the ps2 version to hide something or as a hack to avoid doing something else - and they've decided it looks better without it? maybe?

because it wont be because the console isnt capable - bloom is one of the easier effects to pull off..

The bloom effect was integeral to the visuals of the PS2 version and without it the game looks a bit murky and almost lifeless, try the PS2 version (with an RGB cable or something) and you'll find the visuals shit all over the Wii version so far.

Considering Okami is a PS2 game I'm guessing it was coded really awkwardly, using effects PS2 only seems to do, so I'm guessing recreating the bloom effect isn't as easy as you think.

Bloom is bloom. No matter how you achieve it. All consoles of the previous generation did plenty of bloom, and the Wii does bloom even better (according to the MP3 developers). If they can't just port the code straight to it, then they can recreate it otherwise.
