Odin Sphere early next year

Hooray for quirky RPG.

Square Enix will be treating us Europeans to Odin Sphere early next year.

Its a 2D role-playing game for PS2 that was released simultaneously in Japan and the US during summer, and is stuffed full of hand-drawn, charming artwork you could pause and hang on your wall.

The idea is to fight your way through all the enemies in side-scrolling levels as quickly and effectively as you can, swapping between five different heroes to tackle different areas.

Unfortunately it gets a little repetitive after a while, but the way its character designs, varied and exquisite backgrounds, glorious soundtrack, considered voice acting and engaging storyline pull together in a consistent way is nothing short of marvellous.

Nice, I will definitely check this out. I still need to rent Silmeria, though.

    Is Grim Grimoire PS3 compatible??

(I have looked at the UTTERLY bloody useless lists (PS3 comp, and the helpfully stuck at 1.80 official one)

Grimgoire should be compatible with PS3, it launched a week before or after Valkyrie Slimera and Rogue Galaxy and they are 100% compatible.

    grimgrimoire is BC.

And lets hope this isn't the end of the rpgs we missed out on.

    OMG hooray!

Hang on where's Blerk? - he won't believe it! :p
  • Blerk #13 4 years ago

Of course I will - I posted it in the forum hours ago. ^_^

It'd be nice if Squenix actually brought over a few of their own games which they previously deemed unnecessary for the European market. Like Grandia 3, for example.

lol woops - Oh yeah i see it! /blush

I just rememebred you saying in a thread a really, really long time ago that it'll never see the light of day on these fair shores :)

Yeah it's odd, but i for one am glad that we are beginning to see these games hitting our shores, and maybe it will pave the way for more releases in the future? :)

Grandia 3 is a weird one though, especially since the first 2 came out over here :S

    @Blerk

heh, i didnt think anyone else but myself was interested in seeing Grandia 3 released here, i have the import and thought it was pretty decent, not touching the previous ones in the gameplay department ofcourse;)

    Never played Grandia Xtreme though..

Didn't the original subtitle for this article read something like "about bloody time"? Why was it changed?

Or did my thoughts at the time simply project themselves as words upon the website?

Had an NTSC copy for ages. The art is obviously awesome, and I'm glad to see such a 2D treasure come to our shores.

But it's a tremendously repetitive game, and the lack of much exploration (which the rather more fun Princess Crown had a healthy dose of) puts me off playing it.

And Woolworths couldn't get Grim Grimoire to me the useless sods. Out of bloody stock. Grrr *shakes fists*

The extra cutscene you get for finshing the last part of the game properly is the best cut scene of 2007.

It took me 50 hours to finish Odin Sphere and some of it was repititive, but the stages are so short I didn't find it was a big problem. I do suggest playing on easy unless you are a hardcore 2D RPG type of person. You'll still be challenged.

    Great news. Thanks Squenix! ^_^

@RPG-Lord: I thought I saw Xenosaga III on the list of upcoming games for Europe a while back? Probably been canned by now though. Namco hates us with the fury of a thousand suns, I think.

With this + the limited PAL release of Ar Tonelico (France & Italy only I believe), that only leaves Radiata Stories on my list of games I'd like to see get a PAL release. Not holding my breath for that one though.

@RPG-Lord: Thanks for reminding me about .hack/GU - I liked the originals well enough, so I guess those go on my list (albeit also in the not-holding-my-breath category).
