Oddworld will return, confirms Lanning News

Oddworld Inhabitants boss Lorne Lanning has confirmed the studio is working on new "stuff" relating to the Oddworld universe.

Lanning's comments come just a few days after Maxis co-founder Jeff Braun told an audience of students he's helping out on a new Oddworld game.

"I can confirm that we're working with Jeff on Oddworld stuff," Lanning told our close personal friends GamesIndustry.biz.

"That's all I can say at this time. He was giving a talk to a school, but there hasn't been a formal announcement, yet," Lanning added.

So what does "stuff" mean, exactly? A full game? Or perhaps episodic content, as Braun hinted in his speech? Looks like we'll have to wait and see...

i hope they make a new dl able one with abe, admitedly ive never played munch or strangers wrath but i did oh-so love the two side scrolling abe entries and how perfect would they be for downloadable services

After the perceived financial failure of Stranger's Wrath I thought Lanning had given up on games?

Not that I mind - I thought Stranger's Wrath was fantastic.

Ugh no, no more damn HD remakes. It still looks alright now anyway, the last thing we want is more retreaded 90s material.

No, make something new and totally different like Stranger's Wrath. Last time, it turned out to be one of the best damn games i've ever played. And I have a lot of free time.

I really hope that they bring out the BC patch for Stranger's Wrath. I've been waiting for it for ages!
Although Microsoft did say they had given up on backward compatability!!!

They've never given up on games, they gave up on making them themselfs. Lanning has explained a few times they would continue to work on the Odworld universe but more in the line of developing the IP and making movies. Letting other people make the games with the things they developped. And not an a "licesense cash in" type of deal either.
They're seriouse about the Oddworld universe and having it continue in game form, they just don't want to deal with all the bullshit publishers.

This has reminded how much fun Stranger's Wrath was. I'm gonna have to buy an xbox off ebay now. Shame the BC od the 360 is so hit and miss. Can't wait for this game the Oddworld games were always fun and fresh. New characters I say. Abe was good but we need to move on!
