Oh come on guys.

Nintendo currently have the "family friendly" image.

Can you imagine the shit storm something like the daily mail would kick up if you could speak to people online?

Remember the ds? Paedos can talk to your kids while they're sat in your car.. etc etc.

Imagine what the headline would be if the wii is in your kids bedroom.

What, and kids don't have internet in their bedroom to chat to paedos?

But then again, would adding in voice chat sell any more copies, highly unlikely, so you are all right, for nintendo it's not worth risking any hassle, no matter how unfounded any backlash would be.

Look.. you know it's stupid, i know it's stupid.

But that wont stop the tabloids running a "shock horror" story about it and nuking nintendos image (regardless of how much common sense/parental controls/etc are added).

Dont tell me there wont.. just look at the shit about the mass effect cut scene and other such bollocks

The press would have a field day with "we set up a match against gary glitter and 5 ten year olds, and found that he was able to talk to them throughout! Ban this sick filth!"
