No super-slim PS2 for the UK
But some parts of Europe will get lucky.
Sony has confirmed to Eurogamer there are no plans to release the new super-slim PS2 console in the UK.
The new model is slightly smaller and thinner than the traditional slimline and doesn't come with an AC adapter. As reported by Kotaku, it's just started appearing in American shops.
But according to SCE UK, that doesn't mean we'll be seeing it over here any time soon. "We won't be releasing the new model PS2 in the UK," a spokesperson stated.
Other parts of Europe are in luck, however. "It has launched in a few SCEE territories already," confirmed Mr Sony.

Original slimline (2004) = 900 g + 350 g PSU
Revised slimline (2007) = 600 g + 250 g PSU
New slimline = 720 g total

I'm quite interested in a slim without external PSU.

Gotta be highly likely - which would make this US model pretty desirable for some importers/RPG fans.

I have to tilt my launch-model PS2 to an upside-down angle of 45 degrees to get it to play some CD games. Which is weird, because I ended up doing the self-same thing with my bulk-model PS1, as well.
So I would probably be interested in a slimline non-PSU model at some point.

I was looking forward to getting this one to replace my fat PS2 without the hassle of a power brick.

Could just be that they have large stockpiles/some factories that won't convert to making the new one.

However, more likely is that they want to get rid of their back-stock of standard slimline PS2s in this country, before releasing the new one, like they did with the PS3 controllers.
They know that noone will buy the old style one if they think that there's a new one coming out and so, they go on record lying about it.

Ditto except my PS2 started dying in 2005!

Pretty stupid of them, trying to compel people to buy a replacement that doesn't play PS2 games...

Does anyone know if the packaging will easly identify these modelsif I get af friend to keep an eye out for an old model for me? I assume there're no reliable import shops to get hold fo an American console now.

The key question is whether new model has a universal PSU or not I guess...

I had a look around, and there was one post on AV forums that said it was universal. The most recent PS2s with a power brick also came with a universal PSU. I'd say it's a pretty strong bet that this model has a worldwide PSU.
