No Stranglehold demo for EU News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

7 September, 2007

European PS3 owners will have to settle for the new MotorStorm downloadable content on PSN this week as Midway still hasn't confirmed when the Stranglehold demo will be released here.

The Coyote Revent VIP Pass pack will cost GBP 3.99 / EUR 5.80. It includes the new reversed and revamped version of the Coyote track plus two new vehicles and the Eliminator online mode.

There's also a spattering of new trailers you might want to look at, like GT5 Prologue, Lair, and Heavenly Sword - but you can find most of those over on Eurogamer TV already.

Lucky old Americans. Stranglehold and NBA Live demos are available over there, as well as some Ninja Gaiden Sigma weapons and a host of other trailers.

Sucks to be a PS3 owner in the UK at the mo..

Mind you, it also sucks having gone through 2 360s already. Guess this latest "generation" is all about crap hardware and no games.

Just create a US account and you can get all the content we miss out on in Europe. I mean the US even get free wallpapers which surely should appear on the European PS Store as they don't exactly require any localization! /rolls eyes

I noticed that the MotorStorm download has five vehicles on the US site for $5.99 (around £3), all available to download separately if you choose for $0.99 (50p) but the UK one states that it has TWO new vehicles and costs £3.99. Why do we only get two new vehicles and the US five? /confused

@LHH - Surely you mean this generation is about crap hardware and lots of games on the 360 and terrific hardware and no games on the PS3? ;)

Sympathise on the sentiment of crap hardware/great games, great hardware/crap games, that is why I have both and am able to balance the two factors out! Though not personally suffering at all the 'crap' hardware side of X360 though (RROD once).

Yeah I have US account on PSN, and believe that most PS3 owners in Europe will have done so by now, if not GET a bleeding move on!
I likewise have X360 US/Jap accounts as well but not much difference there compared to the vast differences for PSN stores between US and Europe at moment, aside from Video Marketplace.

I downloaded Stranglehold Demo off US PSN last night (already tried 360 version as well!).

I hope that PSN stores in Europe would catch up to the standard available in US soon, as Europe is Sony best region and need to reward us far better!

biker_bob, I've seen you posting about this in a couple of threads. NINE faulty 360s???

What the hell are you doing to them? Or what is so different about the models that are sold in your neck of the woods?

Downloaded stranglehold via US PSN and I have to say I think it plays a little better than the 360 version, although it doesn't look quite as good.

It's again because of the lack of AA in the PS3 version, otherwise it's identical. Sadly lazy development again. Just downloaded the PS3 version to compare. Probably get that version as I want Hard Boiled.

Btw, PS3 does support 60Hz SD in the UK.

I don't get Sony. In fact I don't get Nintendo either. The 360 may be a ludicrously unreliable piece of hardware for some and well.. it's Microsoft, but I think they're doing not bad treating the European consumers pretty well with things like downloads/demos etc. Sony and Nintendo must have a bet going for on who can piss off Europeans the most. And I haven' even got started on pricing 'issues' either...

There are definitely more framerate hitches in the PS3 Stranglehold demo compared with the 360 one (but then the Unreal Engine 3 doesn't really run well on the PS3 in its current state, does it?) otherwise they're commendably similar to play with the 360 winning slightly by having better analogue sticks and superior trigger button. In the PS3 version you use the R1 button to fire by default, presumably because the triggers ain't all that good. I'm definitely sticking with the 360 version for its marginally better graphics and better controls.

So biker_bob, you're going to complain to the Dutch Consumer Association about hardware you imported? Why the would you be on your 3rd Elite? Either you're lying or you're seriously stupid.
