No Quest for Booty disc for UK News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

11 September, 2008

Sony has decided not to release a Blu-ray version of Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty in the UK after all.

The rest of Europe will still get the disc, but according to a spokesperson, Sony decided - when the time came - that the existing PSN download would be enough for us.

Bad news for those living in caves or trees or underwater, then. Or, simply, those not keen on sitting through a 3.2GB download for a slightly unremarkable add-on.

Quest for Booty, in case you didn't know, has Ratchet (but not Clank, who is missing) chasing treasure, drinking rum, exploring caves and bopping robot pirate baddies.

Head over to our Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty review to find out more.

MCV EXCLUSIVE: Speaking to MCV, Sony has denied claims that the planned Bu-Ray release for Insomniac's Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty has been scrapped.

I was waiting for it's disc release, bunch of dicks they are. Still, in the grand scheme of things it matters not, one less game for me to buy then forget to play as I play Mercs 2 instead.

seriously its so short and has almost no replay value it really isnt worth a blu ray release, hopefully they will do a few more PSN episodes then do a disc with them all on.

Ah i wanted it on BD as well, for my son, would rather have it on disk than download it.... (me still likes disks for most things... except for old games then i'm ok with downloading).

Guess i will have to get it on import then.

Well to be fair it makes sense...I was only hoping for a blu-ray version so I could rent it from Lovefilm as I did with the main game... So as a money making scheme it does improve the profit margin somewhat I suppose, means that they get all the money instead of Game, Gamestation, CEX, Lovefilm, Blockbuster etc.
Though in someways they fucked themselves in the ass, I was waiting for the disc version, but now it won't be released I still won't buy the game as I'm saving up for Motorstorm 2, resistance 2, DC: Online, the Agency and Little Big Planet. so in someways they lost customers by making them wait to buy the game. Though this is more of a hypothetical as I would have rented it anyway....sighs what is taking so long with all the good games? It feels like I've been waiting forever for some of them.

I guess I'l import it. I would rather buy all games on disc (I would like them to come in smaller boxes mind)

I am curious about what happens to all the DRM when the PS4 comes out - do we own our games forever, or do we buy them again....when my PS3 packs up and I but another in twenty years, will I still be able to download these games.

DLC could spell the end for retro gaming....well probably not I guess, it will all be available on some giant server somewhere.

Yeah, it's a chunky download, but even in the land of cr*p broadband deals (Australia) it's hardly a deal breaker. Don't know why anyone would prefer the disk - means you have to get off the couch to put it in. Slightly dissapointing though that there wasn't a slimmer version for owners of the ToD disk, which must be using a lot of the same assets, so could have been a traditional "new map" size download instead of a complete new game.

The game itself is fine. Not outstanding, but a solid extra 3-4 hours of 8/10 Ratchet shooting and walloping for a reasonable price. My biggest complaint was the lack of kleptomaniac skill points, secret areas, gold and platinum bolts and the like to find, which always adds to the fun and longevity of an R&C game. And you do miss Clank, who is the more fun of the pair. But I got my money's worth.

saku_luk you made me laugh... anyway, i don't know why but 2/3 owners of the ps3 don't use online or own online service... so I would say RAC don't sell in UK.

Having a download limit and limited space on my hard drive, it seems like a waste of time. I was thinking of buying the blu-ray version for cheap, as I've never played any of the previous games before, but I can live without it.

Already bought (for my GF, I really didn't get into the R&C games since 3 or so). She was kinda disappointed by it (she's too big a fan, 3 hours would never suffice). Probably best to just DL it instead of having a disk. It's not that big. Although the install did take me a freaking hour.

It seems to me that some people just lie in wait for excuses to have a childish strop. Who seriously gives a crap that you can't get this on disc. Did I fall asleep and wake up in the 80s or something?

Also, on the subject of HD space. What does a 250GB replacement drive come in at nowadays? about the price of a single game...

Can you not download it again? PSN logs your purchase history so you should always be able to re-download any content you have bought. Or does it bugger up every time?

I would be amazed if it didn't work. AFAIK all the drives come out of the same factories, regardless of where they end up or who sells them.

Hey at least it is on PSN, Shivering Isles didn't even get that far here.

"Who seriously gives a crap that you can't get this on disc."
People with a 10Gb cap on their broadband, or those who still can't get broadband due to the crappy lines around here. Real conversation a friend had with BT - "Well we could enable broadband on your phone line, and we can subsidise that cost by £8,000. It'll still cost you £9,000 though"

Well ok, there is a minority whose broadband provision options are poor. They are too small a minory to cater for though unfortunately, and I'm sure there are other games to keep them entertained.

"minority whose broadband provision options are poor"
That 10Gb cap being the lowest option on BT's broadband choice. You also have those with a PS3 but no broadband because 'they don't own a computer' try getting those newbies to configure a router without being able to shove an install disc anywhere. There are those who are faced with a monopoly when it comes to broadband (hello Hull) who choose not to have it; and finally those who just don't live within 200m of their exchange and thus get broadband about the same speed as dial-up.

Also an online only release also loses that "Oo can I borrow that... that was fun I'm going to buy that" factor that even the record industry has finally acknowledged exists.

As a final note this is once again a case of "We're going to do this... oh wait changed our minds" that seems to hang around the PS3 like a bad smell; well for everywhere outside the US and Japan that is.
