"If you want exclusive games how about:

GT5:P
Buzz
Uncharted
MGS
Warhawk
Motorstorm
Everybody's Golf World Tour
Ferrari Challenge"

please tell me you're being sarcastic :O
I know its all about personal taste but ffs.
out of that list i'd say GT5 and maybe MGS are the sort of exclusives that shift consoles.

If that list read something like:
GTA4
FF 13
Street Fighter 4
Left 4 Dead
etc. now that would a list that get even cheap buggers like me to beg borrow and steal to get a hold of a PS3.
as it stand the chief complaints are - lack of games not already on or coming out for the 360, and the price.
sad but true.

"When I bought my 360, it wasn't far away from being near the £300 mark (about 12 months before the PS3 UK launch). Were people complaining about prices then?"

People dont complain about 360 prices because it delivers on the games front, so represents great value for money.

The PS3 has, in my opinion, spawned a stream of mediocre to awful games, both exclusive and multiplat, thus is not worth anywhere near the asking price.

"But for what is under the hood PS3 is well worth 300 quid."

That's a very subjective statement. Would you say the same if it didnt have blu-ray? Without blu-ray the PS3 is simply an underpowered 360 with some iffy exclusives.

The fact that the chips inside the PS3 are made of solid gold* (even though they are not entirely fit for purpose) does not automatically make it 'good' under the hood, simply 'expensive'.

* OK, not made from gold, but certainly not performing to the competitions standard.

I have a PS3, I play lots of games on the system, both exclusive and multiplatform that are excellent. The PS3 does represent good value for money as far as I'm concerned. Having owned all 3 consoles, you're not going to convince me otherwise.

"sometimes it's an advantage to be last..."

Surely not when it comes to console sales and p*ssing off the fanbase?!

By that very statement, Mr Reeves is UNQUESTIONABLY ADMITTING that Europe IS always last.

You misunderstand me, I'm not trying to convince you at all. I'm glad you are enjoying your system.

What I am stating is that there are a huge number of people out there who do not think the same way and will not buy a PS3 until either the price drops or some decent exclusive titles appear.

For me personally £300 for a 360 was too much which is why I waited until it was £200. Don't forget though that when the 360 was £300 the PS3 was £425 so for a lot of people it still came down to "how much do I need to spend for some decent gaming?"

It's really that simple for a lot of people.

You can go on & on about about added value of the extras on a system all day long but not everybody wants them. For example my house is wired for Cat5 so I didn't need a WiFi adaptor. I also didn't want a HD Optical disc for movies. If there's one thing I'll give MS credit for with their console was that you have a choice. A mate of mine has just bought an Arcade for £150 and can play every game I lend him just fine. I think that's a bargain personally.

That's not to say that the price for said options is reasonable but that's another story!

Sony, believe it or not, need to make a profit. That's why the PS3 is the price it is. If you can't afford it, tough shit, you can't have one. It's not their fault. I'd quite like a Ferrari but the price is a little prohibitive so I don't buy one. It's called Capitalism.

And to the person who said blu-ray offers no advantages over upscaled dvd:
LOL. Get a new TV.

"It's not their fault?"

Who else decided to use it as a vehicle for their new Hi-Def media format, thus pushing the price up?

I don't have a problem with the price (hence owning one) but it's not like the poor little dears had it forced on them.

farticusmaximus, the matter of "decent exclusives" is one of opinion, is it not?

I think the lack of BC is hurting the sales more than the high priced tag.

Pretty sure you can get a second hand ps2 pretty cheap anyway? Plus doesn't half the world already own a PS2? My PS3 has BC but it's not like I really needed it!

I don't think the issue is one of value for the money for a PS3. I think it's more an issue of...are you getting what you want for the money spent and is it possible to spend less and get the same or possibly more?

It's nice that there's a cell, but not everybody needs cell, nor is it even necessary for gaming. Blu-ray's a good feature, but not everybody has an HDTV, nor the desire to replace their current DVD collection. WiFi is ace, but can be sometimes iffy for gaming purposes depending on the strength of your connection.

Yes, the ps3 is certainly good value for the money, but a lot of people don't necessarily need or want much of what it has to offer and therefore the features are unnecessary. In which case it would make more sense to purchase the cheaper console that has everything you want and is, well, cheaper. That's the point: gamers looking to strictly play games don't need to have a PS3 in their collection just yet, especially considering it's the most expensive of the 3 consoles...unless, of course, they meet criteria a, b and c.

It just amazes me that people get so angry and have to swear on an internet site. Seriously worry about todays human race who cannot have a serious conversation without Chavtastic swearing all over the place.

Even though I generally disagree with farticusmaximus, the one point he makes is true, the PS3 wont sell lots more than the Xbox/wii until it has a price reduction - people are price sensitive. Now dont get me wrong I love my PS3, and it is real value for money, but as many people buy based on price they would be put off by the £300 price tag. Unfortunately Sony have to keep the price up because of the original development costs. Of course you compare it to the Xbox and its great value for money, and compared to the wii...well lets not go there... congrats to Nintendo for getting so little in a box and selling it for that price (by the way i own one, so what does that say...lol).

But I suspect once the new cheaper to make PS3 is out (who knows when), then i suspect there will be a price cut.

I can't believe how upset some people are about my comment.

To put things in perspective, I don't live off £5 pocket money, I have a mortgage and credit car to pay. To me £300 is a lot to spend on something which doesn't do anything new for me.

Bluray playback, no problem, my PC plays both HD-DVD and Bluray and therefore makes me safe with the 2.0 profile.

My £200 or 10 games rule isn't all that silly one will happen eventually, as mentioned yes there probably more than 10 exclusives, but right now I would say I am upto 5 which interest me.

Its simple, this generation its going like this:
1st, 360 first released so will pay whatever.
2nd, Wii its cheap
3rd, PS3 when its cheap enough

I will add last generation it went:
1st, Dreamcast first released so will pay whatever
2nd, PS2 (Dreamcast was losing speed)
3rd, Gamecube its cheap
4th, Xbox (you guessed it, for £200 with 8 games at £5-£10 each)

So does the last generation make me a sega fanboy (probably the most true out of the lot)

I am trying to point out I have no loyalty to any of them and as an adult I have had to make decisions on which to buy and I don't have an unlimited budget for new toys unfortunately. I made the point as I guess I am not the only one how is looking at it in a similar way.

I have already said I wish to own a PS3 eventually, I haven't claimed it is superior or inferior to any other consoles.

I did think I could make an adult comment on the situation on the price, but it would seem some children may have taken it badly.

The pure and simply fact is that IN MY OPINION considering MY SITUATION the PS3 is too expensive and doesn't do anything new for me to justify the cost.

Aren't we all meant to love games on here? so why are people so hostile, people having different consoles and different reasons for owning them doesn't make them love games any more or less, so can't we all just grow up and get along?

Rant over...

£300 seems acceptable to me, you get a lot of bang for your buck.
IMO its worth it for the BD and the Linux compatibility on its own
But I i didn't buy my PS3 to play games, the 360 has got that area covered quite nicely.
If I had I would be quite upset, that 20 odd month since its release there are 2 games of note.. one is a racing demo and the other is a pretty average interactive movie.

I got me a ps3 on Saturday. Why? Mainly because my dvd player's packed up, and thought it's a damn good excuse to get a blu-ray player. Not too interested in the games as I've got 360 and a wii for that. Oh and the other reason was that by getting a ps3 i could trade in about 10 games i've not played in a while and get £100 off! 80gb ps3 for 199 quid? yes please!!!!

Home just doesn't need to arrive, it also needs to herald the arrival of a massive overhaul of the Playstation online experience.

No matter what fancy trophy rooms, or matchmaking lobbies they set up, they first need to get the basics of logging in, managing personal data, smoothly updating the system, and actually getting multiplayer games running in the first place.

Judging when the price is acceptable is entirely subjective so listing a lot of features is not going to sell it to people like me who

A) Aren't in any way arsed about Bluray
B) Aren't in any way arsed about Linux
C) Aren't in any way arsed about MGS4
D) Are arsed about BC

Obv. my opinion alone and I'm happy for other people who did see those as a selling point, but for me it's not worth £300 as a games machine. £250 maybe, £200 definitely. However, it's a personal preference, keep that in mind people
