No Prey 2 for PS3, says Radar Group

Human Head helping to develop.

Radar Group's Casey Lynch has stated that despite reports to the contrary, Prey 2 is not in development for PlayStation 3.

Lynch told TheGameReviews that the sequel to 2006's hit shooter is only coming to Xbox 360 and PC. This is backed up by the game listing on Radar Group's website.

It's also been confirmed that original developer Human Head is working on the game, according to TGR.

Radar Group announced Prey 2 earlier this week, along with new titles Earth No More and Incarnate. For more information, read what company bigwig Scott Miller had to say.

I would not describe this as a hit shooter. I bought the first one and found it close to being good but just lacking so I couldnt be arsed to finsih it. It wasnt exciting enough to be gripping and the use of the wall flipping walking thing jsut got annoying.

One of those shooters which was fun for about an hour, like FEAR, Doom3, Quake4, etc.

"I would not describe this as a hit shooter."

Maybe it was some sort of spoonerism. Maybe it's a shit hooter.
  • sickpuppysoftware #9 4 years ago

It's one less format for me to not buy it in.*

*unless of course it isn't a by the numbers blandathon like it's predecessor in which case I'll get the PC version when it plummets to £5 after a month like the first one.

@NoQuarter: That reminds me I really must try and finish FEAR, Doom3 and Quake4.
  • monkie_king #10 4 years ago

this can go head-to-head with Haze for "exclusive FPS nobody cares about" honours.

Prey was entertaining but not a AAA title. I might pick up the sequel if there isn't anything else out.

ZOMG IT HAD AN OPEN ENDING!!!!

/waits for the halo haters hordes to bring out their anti open ending argument.
  • Bumhug360 #13 4 years ago

Considering how the first game was in development for over 10 years its possible it will be on the PS5
  • Darren #14 4 years ago

I did enjoy the first Prey, although it was superior on the PC as it played better, ran smoother and looked nicer, thanks to the Quake 4 engine running magnificently on my setup (the engine seems a bit juddery on the 360 if Quake 4 and Prey were anything to go by). The portals and weird alien environment added a lot to the game and the story wasn't too bad for an FPS. I'm definitely interested in the sequel although I think I'll buy it for the PC only this time round.
  • Rash' #15 4 years ago

So another "exclusive" FPS for the 360 fanboys to brag about... ;-)
  • Bulbatron #16 4 years ago

    I really enjoyed Prey.
  • Aysir #17 4 years ago

Not so much for PS3 to cry over. With Haze, Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 to look forward to the sequel to a mediocre game on the 360 is hardly cause for tears. No games on the PS3 that have become exclusive to the 360 have had any importance - bear in mind this in no way counts for titles that have lost exclusivity (like DMC4).

  • bad09 #18 4 years ago

I myself didn't think much of it (only looked at the demo) but a lot of people liked the first one so I guess It's a good exclusive to have.
  • moggsy #19 4 years ago

    @ Bulbatron

    So did I.
  • monkie_king #20 4 years ago

Aysir: "... Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 to look forward to the sequel to a mediocre game on the 360 is hardly cause for tears."

That's right, as you've just named two PS3-exclusive sequels to mediocre games. Powerful argument!
  • miiiguel #21 4 years ago

After the mediocre reviews I was surprised how fun it was. Lightcore shooter, it has almost that whiner feeling of a PS3 game...
  • TheNinkyNonk #22 4 years ago

Shame. First one was OK and my 360 broke. Hey ho.
  • sailesh #23 4 years ago

  • penhalion #24 4 years ago

Prey was a good game that was overlooked by most people. You can pick it up for about 10 - 15 quid these days. Prey 2 should be ok too. Not sure why it's exclusive though. I can't see this company gaining anything but lower sales by doing this.
  • UKLL #25 4 years ago

Personally I really enjoyed the first one.

    [SPOILERS?]

The portals were a gimmick and the wall flipping made me feel sick at times but it was a really solid and atmospheric FPS with some great moments (spirit walking, dodging falling asteroids on the surface of a moon, the aircraft full of screaming passengers flying around inside the alien spaceship, don't fear the reaper playing on the jukebox whilst you are being abducted etc). I also really liked the dark storyline, so much for saving your gf and grandfather and living happily ever after.....

Maybe they're doing a valve and taking their bat and ball home over the PS3 architecture?
  • Stormflood #27 4 years ago

If you're a fan of the first one, you have a 360 or PC, so this doesn't really affect anyone... does it?
  • cyacomini #28 4 years ago

Yup - Prey was indeed one of the better games of recent times and one of the very few FPS's I've ever felt the need to finish. Only Half Life 2 comes close as far as I'm concerned - played that til the end too.

And as for Halo 3 - I played for about an hour and havent been back to it since.
  • ParanoidZombie #29 4 years ago

Prey was great, because alien spaceship + Blue Oyster Cult's "don't fear the reaper"= awesome.
  • TurboBailey #30 4 years ago

aww - shame its not coming on PS3.

    I liked the original.
  • gringohairpiece #31 4 years ago

I thought it had some interesting ideas (wall-walking, spirit-walking) but overused them until they just became tiresome annoyances so I was glad i borrowed it. The only reason i stuck with it until the end was for the 650+ gamer points you got for doing that. On the whole an ok title but i certainly wouldn't bother with the sequel unless it got stunning reviews.

I wonder if the infamous "Anus" doors will make a return this time?

  • Apologie #33 4 years ago

who give a shit about these game when the Ps3 will have games like KZ2, Haze, Resistance2, Far Cry2, Battelfield, SOCOM etc... only to mention the FPS, and all of them in 2008.

  • Nithron #35 4 years ago

About 50% of apologie's comments consist of that exact same list of games that aren't actually out yet.

Also, the ability for a game to immediately become mediocre as soon as it's not on your chosen console format, apparently instantaneously, is surely a promising avenue for scientific research. Is there some kind of quantum phenomenon at work here?
  • Apologie #36 4 years ago

    Nithron

No man, i'm just making a point here... in my opinion Ps3 owners have too many goodies these year to be concerned about Prey2. I'm not saying by any means that it's a bad game, only not important considering the saturation in the genre and the much more promising releases for 2008, and yes, Killzone2, RFOM2, Haze, SOCOM, Battelfield and Far Cry 2 will be the TOp6 FPS for 2008, not Prey2 "dispise it's quality", that my friend is a FACT and have nothing to do with me being a Ps3 owner.

I don't think the fact that the PS3 isn't getting Prey 2 specifically is a scar on their face, but it's yet another in an increasingly long line of games that the 360 is getting which the PS3 isn't. And wasn't the fact that the PS2 last gen had the most # of games the main reason why people considered it to be such a great console? That's the issue here for the PS3. The less games, the less people want the console.

And please stop stating opinion as fact. Just say "that's what I believe." It started off as funny, but now...I dunno...not so much anymore.
  • THEGREATMADMAN #38 4 years ago

we can expect this one in about 2021 then...

If that's a list of your mediocre FPSs to battle the 360's Prey Mediocre FPS then I thinik you've screwed up a bit because Resistance 2 might be Quite Good. The rest are about as palatable as curry-splattered shit though.
  • Garulon #40 4 years ago

Although it's quite hilarious the PS3 is the new "shooter box" though. Except for the godawful havent-you-changed-this-still SUXAXIS controller

They lost some exclusives, but gain others such as Motorstorm, Resistance, Uncharted, Warhawk, Killzone, Little Big Planet etc... while maintaining some of the most amazing games in the buisness like MGS, GT, TEKKEN, GOD of WAR, SOCOM, FINAL FANTASY... plus, the multiplatform games of interest are all having excelent ports over to the Ps3 like COD4, Burnout Paradise and Assassins Creed... don't forget that Sony alone owns/have more 1st party dev teams then Microsoft and Nintendo together.

Prey 2 Vs Haze - Battle of the exclusive not quite AAA FPS games!
  • Dr.Mott #43 4 years ago

Prey will always have a special place in my heart, as it was the first 360 game I actually played. (Apart from demos in shops, of course)

If only Sony would ask them to stop making shit games, eh? Sadly, not gonna happen as they know as much about gaming as your average Haddock knows about tapdancing.

    ----------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, God of War, Resistance, Motorstorm, Uncharted, Tekken 6, GT, Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, White Knight Story, Eight Days, Killzone 2, SOCOM: US Navy Seals Confrontation, Haze, The Getaway, Wardevil - Unleash the Beast Within etc... are all bad games, no doubt about. :)
  • bad09 #45 4 years ago

/ waits for "the list" from Apologie listing great PS exclusives like NCSoft #4 and rumoured exclusive #3. ;)
  • captainrentboy #46 4 years ago

Add me to the list of folk who mightily enjoyed PREY.
No it wasn't a AAA title by any means, but it was a whole lot of fun whilst it lasted, any game that has me engrossed enough to actually complete it is a bit of a rarity these days, but PREY managed it.
Like someone else said, it did have some classic set pieces, and that wall walking shit was quite original for someone who doesn't bother at all with PC gaming.
    Yep, bring on PREY 2!!
  • BBIAJ #47 4 years ago

ApoliLOL, you are aware that Battlefield: Bad Company (to give the game its full and proper title), is coming to the X-Box 360 as well right, and therefore has no place in your list of exclusive-supposedly-so-called-though-actually-probably-only -going-to-be-quite-mediocre-really "hits" list?

    Yes, of course you did...

    *sigh*
