"No plans" for MGS4 PS3 bundle here

America gets, Europe waits.

SCEE has "no plans" to release a Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 bundle or God of War PSP bundle in Europe.

It was responding to queries after the American arm of the company unveiled some fancy offers.

The Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle will go on sale in the US in late Q2. It will contain the game, an 80GB PlayStation 3 and DualShock 3 controller. The bundle will cost USD 499.

The DualShock 3 controller will cost USD 54.95 on its own and will be available in April.

The God of War: Chains of Olympus bundle will arrive in June and set Americans back USD 199.99. Inside will be the game, a Deep Red PSP with a picture of Kratos on, the film Superbad and a PC Store voucher to download Syphon Filter: Combat Ops. Gosh.

God of War: Chains of Olympus is due out in the US on 4th March. European retailers suggest it will be here on 28th March, but this is currently unconfirmed.

"In response to incredible demand, we will be manufacturing more 80GB PS3s for North America and the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots 80GB PS3 bundle is an ideal way to offer that continued value to our consumers," said Sony US boss Jack Tretton.

"With Blu-ray having won the format war, our stellar software line-up and a broad product portfolio, we will continue to drive the incredible momentum we've been generating since last fall."

Sony America also revealed a pre-order promotion for MGS4, which will guarantee you access to a multiplayer beta test for MGS Online in late April.

Boo, sniff.

They say that now, but it was a SCEE guy (David Reeves, I think) who first started talking about the possibility of a MGS4 bundle. MGS is also arguably bigger in Europe than anywhere else.
  • tobi #2 4 years ago

Surely SCEE aren't that stupid and they'll turn up next week with a similar bundle, surely!
  • agparrot #3 4 years ago

Because Europe is the most important market.
  • Vin #4 4 years ago

    This would've sold me on a PS3.

    Shame.
  • Foxclose #5 4 years ago

Europe is gaining more and more importance, but the US is still the most important market.
  • jonsaan #6 4 years ago

I really can't believe that someone who was a die hard MGS fan would allow this to stop them playing it. Just buy a PS3 and MGS4 ffs. For the sake of 50 quid. Maybe I am just uber rich.......

50 quid, that's not even a night out on the lash these days is it?
  • Apostle #7 4 years ago

I guess if we didn't buy Sony products, we'd become important.

I already have myself a PS3 though, but I'd like to think the beta for MGO would come to this part of the world in the pre-order deal?
  • DonnieDarko333 #8 4 years ago

It's definately coming out here roughly the same time as America (June 2008) and will be availible in some sort of bundle, it's PS3's biggest game to date and Kojima said MGS4 has a simultaneous worlwide release, it'll be stupid not to release some-sort of MGS bundle here in Euro-land, just wait for an announcement, it will come i'm 95% certain!

As for the Red PSP, don't count on it...i'm importing one though, great looking machine!

They will. It would be the only time I would consider buying a PS3 (unless I actually managed to save money...)
  • Machetazo #10 4 years ago

I'm disappointed that the God of War themed PSP http://ww w.destructoid.com/blood-red-psp... might not be released here. It looks amazing!
If I was going to buy a 2xxx then I'd definitely want it to be one of those...But, then again, we didn't get the Daxter/Spiderman packs, or the Star Wars Battlefront II one, with Darth Vader design, so I don't hold out much hope. :(
  • Luvbeers #11 4 years ago

I see a big lag in Europe on MGS4 & PS3 sales until this bundle comes out. Even I am interested (tho will probably skip it).
  • Eighthours #12 4 years ago

Incredible momentum? Being slightly less third than before in US?
  • asphaltcowboy #13 4 years ago

@DonnieDarko333: Are there any pitfalls associated with getting a US PSP?
  • menage #14 4 years ago

Of course not What has Europe ever done for them.
  • monkie_king #15 4 years ago

When they say that they're "manufacturing more" 80GB PS3s, is this the 80GB PS3 that was like the PAL 60GB PS3 with software B/C, or is it like the 40GB PS3 with no B/C at all? Or was it like the NTSC 60GB PS3 with full hardware B/C in it? And does this mean they might be bringing back a PS3 with software B/C in Europe? Does the Blu-ray victory mean they can start building more expensive hardware again, or something?

And are they going to start bundling the Dual Shock pad with all the PS3s eventually, or is this a one-off?

I guess it all depends what the people at SCEE decide is best for the European market, but it would be nice to have BC and rumble back as standard.

might not be released here. It looks amazing!

It's just a metalic red PSP with Krato's head stenciled on it. Hardly amazing and they already have that cherry red PSP in asia.

    "This would've sold me on a PS3.

    Shame"

Same here, but if they can't generate the enthusiasm then neither can I.
  • Luvbeers #18 4 years ago

My Samsung HDTV doesn't support 1:1 pixel mapping over HDMI (but I am more than happy to use VGA with my 360 which does). Does anyone know if the PS3 has any options to adjust overscan at HDMI 720p? If so then this buddle would interest me even more.

"Incredible momentum? Being slightly less third than before in US?"

Depends on how you do the maths, don't it? If "total sales so far this year" is what you go pick you winners and loosers by, then another company neatly slips into third. If "total sales ever and ever" is the deciding factor then... well, then PS2 wins and every one lese looses by a huge margin.

Anyway, who fucking cares who "wins" and who "looses" the console war. What matters is that all formats - including the "last gen" PS2 (and dare I say it: the last-gen Wii) is makeing a lot of money, with lots and lots of games coming out in all formats.

It is not a war, it is not even a competition, because everyone involded will survive this generation, and furthermore it is already a fantastic generation to be a gamer, no matter what your platform of choice is.

Oh, and by the way: growth in sales, as opposed to decreasing sales, is usually refered to as "gaining momentum". I don't know f its "incredible", but the PS3 is certainly on a roll. I'd say that MS seem a lot more passive then Sony these days, but the Xbox 360 is of course also doing very well.

There - I took the troll-bait and swallowed it proper, didn't I? I never learn...
  • Arnold__ #20 4 years ago

    McLovin on the PSP? Nice!
  • Luvbeers #21 4 years ago

but the PS3 is certainly on a roll. I'd say that MS seem a lot more passive then Sony these days, but the Xbox 360 is of course also doing very well.

The roll the PS3 is on seems to be due to the fact that there is finally an anticipated exclusive that MS will not match around the same time (unless you are a NG2 person). But I would agreen that Fall 2007 to Fall 2008 is a great era of console gaming.

Shame. And very shortsighted of SCEE, if you ask me. They really are the poor relation of the company and it really shows in how European consumers get treated.

Like many others, this bundle would actually sell a PS3 to me, but I'm fed up with waiting and waiting and waiting for Sony to get its European act together with features like Dual Shock 3 and backwards compatibility. So instead...

    New PC ahoy!
  • Lexx87 #23 4 years ago

If they don't want me to buy a PS3, then they should keep doing what they are doing.
  • miiiguel #24 4 years ago

Next markting lab test in Europe: stick a finger in Europeans arse, and see how many millions of Playstations we still sell, while kissing yankees behind, and I mean lick them.

  • Shinzou #25 4 years ago

I would buy this. Are SCEE in competition with NOE to see who can give europeans the worst service?

Sony release this bundle (with partial BC) in the UK and it WILL SELL.
  • miiiguel #26 4 years ago

"Sony release this bundle (with partial BC) in the UK and it WILL SELL."

The thing is, they sell it anyway, so why sell it cheaper ? Eat it!
  • jonsaan #27 4 years ago

\whispers 'it's already selling in EU chaps'.
  • DSKUK #28 4 years ago

So, basically......."we're losing in the US to the 360, so we need all the temptation and consoles possible to overtake them"

This is probably why europe isn't getting one because the PS3 is doing better in most of europe than the 360
  • monkie_king #29 4 years ago

Where has the real Apologie gone? I haven't seen him in ages.
  • VMerken #30 4 years ago

No plans? Well, I'm usually a calm person, but...

    START! MAKING! PLANS!

    Ahem. *fixes tie*

    FOR FUCK SAKE!
    Why...WHY...every bastard time.

What have the fat Americans got to offer Sony that we in Europe don't? DOUGHNUTS?
    GRRRR...SO ANNOYING!

    /rant over. Sorry.
  • Nithron #32 4 years ago

Hmm... with the popularization of harddrives these days, how long d'you reckon it'll be before we see the return of the retro phenomenon of games built into the console hardware?
  • BooMMooB #33 4 years ago

Shame. Such a bundle priced resonable would have made me very interested. Once again Europe gets shafted.
  • dr_lha #34 4 years ago

Eggster: You can't get the damn 80Gb PS3 in the USA any more either, at least its disappeared off the shelves everywhere. Its not clear whether Sony are actually sending out and 80Gb packs any more, so this announcement is at least confirmation that the 80Gb/BC PS3 isn't yet dead in the USA.
  • miiiguel #35 4 years ago

Arbiter, it's not a conspiracy, it's plain and simple and quite clear. Harrison said it long ago, in Europe Playstation brand sells in the name alone it doesn't need to prove anything, so why wont they take advantage of that and suck our money to be invested where things are not as good? MS also has the movie service for Europe and not for Americans. They are not as blunt, but it's the same method, imo.
  • systems #36 4 years ago

According to the US Sony Store the 80GB is "no longer available". It's listed as existing again (they took it off last week), but you can still only buy old stock.
  • Nillsens #37 4 years ago

    Fuck :/

This was exactly the bundle I was waiting for.
  • WickedDeeJ #38 4 years ago

The whole point of this pack is to offer extra incentive to buy the new MGS collection, due in the summer as well. Since SCEE apparently thinks playing PS2 games is a sin, they won't release it here.

Thank heaven for Stateside friends and quality shipping deals, 'nuff said.
  • Ryze #39 4 years ago

    @Nithron

??? Like how Pacman came preloaded on my 360?
  • DAN.E.B #40 4 years ago

Where has the real Apologie gone? I haven't seen him in ages.

    Hes trolling on a xbox360 thread.......................nothing new.
  • bad09 #41 4 years ago

At the risk of being told off by the PS crew again, if they released this here I might actually think about it (gasp!). I do like MGS even if it is overhype city and DS3 seals it.

Do they have to keep dropping "we won the format war you know" in every statement though!
