"No plans" for Bionic Commando PS3 demo

Capcom cagey on PC sampler, too.

Capcom has told Eurogamer that there are "no plans" for a PS3 demo of Bionic Commando.

The publisher was responding to yesterday's announcement that an Xbox 360 multiplayer demo will arrive "in the coming weeks". When pressed, however, Capcom wouldn't confirm a specific date, and was equally cagey about the prospects of a PC demo.

Bionic Commando launches on PS3 and Xbox 360 on 22nd May. We not only shared our hands-on impressions of the game recently, but also recorded ourselves playing for your viewing pleasure.

That's funny, because therefore I've got no plans to buy it.
  • tobi #2 3 years ago

I won't consider buying the game unless we get a demo.

    Exclusive demo's are ridiculous!
  • MisterCraig #3 3 years ago

    PS3 never gets a break.
  • greekgoddj #4 3 years ago

No plans to buy it then.
  • frankster #5 3 years ago

Is it because of the recently revealed costs that Sony is charging publishers for for useage of bandwidth? Can't think of any other valid reason.
  • myiagros #6 3 years ago

I quite fancied trying out a single player demo, of Bionic Commando, to see if it actually plays any better than Tom's videos.

Without a demo, i imagine i will pass and stick with Infamous, Ghostbusters & Prototype, to fill my late spring gaming void.

Looks a lot of fun from the footage I've seen but I'm only buying this for the PC because it'll look, run and cost less than the console versions.

I'm certainly not interested in the multiplayer though, not one iota, and have just cancelled my Gold LIVE subscription so I won't even be able to try the 360 demo. Why do demos have to be multiplayer only? :?
  • myiagros #8 3 years ago

@frankster it could also be because they might have done a dodgey job of the PS3 port, or because of a bit of "financial help" from Microsoft.
  • Cappy #9 3 years ago

A bet on the PS3 port being disappointing is a pretty safe bet.
  • muscleblade #10 3 years ago

"Why do demos have to be multiplayer only? :? "

Maybe because the developers think the multiplayer is fantastic and is very proud of it?

This game is on my "must buy" list. I dont care about the demo even though i have a 360 and is a gold member. I want the game.

i'm also not really onboard with the multiplayer demo thing.

I'd much rather see how the single player is going to work out, as thats where most people will be spending the vast majority of their time.
  • jim1975 #12 3 years ago

could this be because Sony charge devs for the bandwidth use on PSN
  • menage #13 3 years ago

I love how people always yell, "no sale without a demo", and than afterwards it's no sale because the demo sucked. Maybe it's Capcom testing the waters and finding out what works the best in general, demo or no demo.

Still, pretty stupid to not do a PS3 demo if you are doing one on other systems.

    Got the demos off magazines...
    It's not like they're new.
  • myiagros #15 3 years ago

As well as what Wastelander said about demos on the front of Mags, GAMEs 10 day return policy ment you could try & return if it turned out crap.
  • Gearskin #16 3 years ago

I'm buying this because it looks awesome and everyone that has touched it says it feels awesome.

    Awesome.

I bet the multiplayer rocks too.
  • Kyle #17 3 years ago

What is the logic to limiting a demo to one system? The idea of a demo is to spread the word of your game, gather interest in gamers and give them a taste of what to expect in the full retail version. Limiting a demo is tantamount to shooting yourself in the foot, surely?
  • Gearskin #18 3 years ago

A lot of people do though, hence the 1000s of hours logged on Xbox Live.

Seriously, you'd think there was no market for something like this the way people talk.

Multiplayer is a big deal! Long after any campaign is finished, it's multiplayer that gives a game legs. It's multiplayer that keeps people interested in the IP.
  • el_pollo_diablo #19 3 years ago

    Thanks Capcom.

You're not really helping yourselves here you know.

You are so very wrong. Its actually quite the opposite.
  • peterfll #21 3 years ago

Hmm. I hardly play anything in multiplayer, only interested in the single player....
  • myiagros #22 3 years ago

Most people i know barely ever touch the multiplayer portion of games they buy.

I personally play through the single player then have a couple of goes at the multiplayer, to see if it is any good, or doing anything interesting, before moving on to something else.

Very occasionally i will find a game with online multiplayer i enjoy, but even then i probably spend more time with the single player than the multiplayer.
  • penhalion #23 3 years ago

Hang on is this demo only Mulitplayer?
  • muscleblade #24 3 years ago

    @myiagros

If most gamers where like you and your friends the stats on Xbox Live would have been quite different. The most and longest played games are those that come with a good multiplayer portion. The most played games right know are:
    1.Halo 3
    2. COD5
    3.COD4
    4.Gears2
    5.RE5

I think most of these players have finished the singleplayer campaign in Halo 3 and COD4 a long time ago. I rest my case.
  • peterfll #25 3 years ago

What is that a list of? The most played games on the live service? Or the most played games on 360 platform (if so, what about the people who play not connect to live)?
  • myiagros #26 3 years ago

I don't disagree that there are many people who spend a lot of time on the multiplayer portions of certain games, but many games multiplayer portions are deserted very quickly after the games release.

Most people who play online games seem to congugate arround a very select few games (Halo, CoD, GoW). For this reason the XBL usage list is a very distorted resource for establishing a clear view of what proportion of owners are playing the multiplayer portion to any real degree.

It would be very interesting to see what percentage of owners of games which include a multiplayer element, play that portion for say more than 2 hours.

With games like Halo & CoD the multiplayer portion is probably played by a very large percentage of the games purchasers, and probably for longer than they ever spend on the single player.

However with the majority of less high profile titles i think you would find that a far fewer percentage of purchasers would ever play that game online (i would suspect less than 50%), and i would suspect that those who do try the online portion would abandon it relatively quickly, quite possibly returning to one of the higher populated titles as mentioned in the XBL usage list.
  • muscleblade #27 3 years ago

    @peterfll

Most played games on Live. Those that arent connected to Live obviously dont play multiplayer games. Most 360 owners however are connected to Live.

    @myiagros

You have a valid point regarding the less high profile titles of course. They should never even add multiplayer to those games. I think that Bionic Commando hovewer is a high profile title and the multiplayer has potential to be very good. And you have to remember that games like Halo 3 and COD4 are the best selling games too. This is why i believe most gamers on average spend more time playing multiplayer than singleplayer.
  • Moonprince #28 3 years ago

Have a pretty bad memory but seem to remember reading most 360 owners are not on live?

Having given it up a few months back, can't say I miss my gold sub. Will only get this when it drops in price for single player also.
  • menage #29 3 years ago

    @Moonprince

So they won't play the demo anyway?
  • vegard #30 3 years ago

i've got lots of love for the original, but this game looks like shit. hope i'm wrong.
  • waynenot #31 3 years ago

Most opinions so far are pretty underwhelming anyway - still, they come across as cunts for leaving out people they'd expect to buy it on PS3.

I thought we all owned both consoles now so apart from Darren and his PC evangelism, who cares if it is 360 only?
