"No permanent solution" to MGO problems News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

21 July, 2008

Konami has admitted there are currently "no permanent solutions" to technical hiccups relating to the Metal Gear Online Gene Expansion.

That's according to information on the official game website, where the publisher apologised for any inconvenience caused.

"We regret to inform that the release of expansion pack Metal Gear Online Gene Expansion on 17th July 2008 was marred by major system related problems resulting in great inconveniences for all our customers," reads the statement.

"We have been taking numerous corrective measures since the problems initially started, but unfortunately there are no permanent solutions we can announce at the present moment."

For now, restrictions on which IP addresses can access the MGO Shop are still in place, but Konami is confident this will speed up waiting times. The company has no idea when the Reward Shop will re-open.

Still, Konami has finished refunding everyone who bought items from the MGO shop but never received them - so that's something.

Konami will insist on using their own system, just like they insist on their own ID system. After the meltdown with the launch of the Beta, they should have learned their lesson.

To be fair to Konami, this "internet" thing has only been around for a couple of months now.

to be fair evilfoxhound, considering the abuse xbox live seems to get from PS fanboys, this is valid criticism, and does little to inspire confidence in what should be a flag ship product. Yes Konami is using their own system, but Sony should be giving them a damn good talking to over this

Sony need to sort out a standardised way of doing updates. This sort of stuff is silly and happens too frequently.

Live problems tend to be purely capacity based. I.e. it has a permanent solution of add more!

It would be nice if there was a bit more visibilty of what your Live fee goes towards and better value between the Gold and Silver accounts. I've never felt I won't pay next year though. In the grand scheme of things it's a great system which works 99% of the time.

"To be fair, nobody criticises xbox live, they criticise the fee - which is a perectly valid criticism.

It wasnt that long ago that Call of Duty 4 battered XBOX Live :

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/art...

"Connection problems plagued users trying to download the Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack this weekend, as Xbox Live struggled to meet demand for the popular FPS's first download content.

During the release users experience various connection errors on Xbox Live, while redeeming Microsoft Points became impossible for others. "

Hey, you, you just criticized Xbox Live! This undermines your post.

Next!

i've had xbox live since the beta on the original xbox and even tho i only had PSN for the short amount of time when i had my 60GB ps3 I do see friends accounts often and to be honest i havent ever seen problems like these so often as now on either service.

I realise things go wrong with updates and big demos/map packs but as these 2 services get more and more customers as they like to state every bloody press conference they aint doing any good with these mishaps. from my point of view someone either needs to be sacked or companys reprimanded for screw ups on this scale, and not just these 2 more like all downloading or maintenance services. Ahwell maybe in a perfect world.

Another reason why xbox live generally works better, everything goes through xbox live servers with a single user name and store etc. PSN may be free but the people behind the games are responsible for keeping servers going, and without any money for it they will only do it for so long, Different games can force different usernames etc and basically nothing works together.

With all the mutliple ID shit needed to play the game, Konamis online department seems to be run by my mum.
