No PAL echochrome demo today

US-only. Plus details on level editor/DLC.

American gamers will be able to download a playable demo of echochrome from the PlayStation Store on PS3 and the PSP's web-based version today.

However, we've been told by Sony friends that the demo won't be part of today's PAL Store update, so you'll have to dust off your US logins to access it.

According to a post on the official PlayStation Blog, the demo offers the brief tutorial (and presumably a few of the early levels), not unlike the Japanese demo that you can already download.

The full game will have 56 levels on PS3 and 56 different ones on PSP, as well as a level creator tool on both systems, with the best PS3 efforts likely to be offered as downloadable content.

Speaking of which, "Additional content will be available from Day 1," according to blogger Kumi Yuasa, associate producer on the game, and this will consist of user-created levels from Japan and elsewhere in Asia.

That's only for the PS3 though - PSP owners will share stuff using ad hoc wireless.

Check out the PlayStation Blog post for more, or check our echochrome gamepage for hands-on reports and exclusive gameplay videos.

As I read this, the sky clouded over. How depressing :(

Played the Japanese demo ages ago. Not all that to be honest. I was expecting to be blown away and I simply wasn't.

I'd agree with that. I've played the full game on the PSP as well, and I really don't think it's anything special.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

The shiny new store still thinks we're twats

The levels were way to easy. As are most of the first levels in puzzlegames. Boring stuff you have to wade through to get to the challenging part.

Aretak, how far did you play the full PSP version?

Glad to see Apologie still alive and kicking, over at GTA4 PS3 bundle comments, wondered what his view would be on European PSN store discriminations?!

Yeah what the updates today for us poor PS3 European Owners?

/off checking for latest PSN update forum post

Nope nada news of update for today only that espadachin been there and asking about pixeljunk monsters.

Er... I thought we already have pixeljunk monsters? As I been playing that for a while now?! You mean the other pixeljunk games?

I actually smiled when I read this, it was like an old friend came round to visit.

The full game on the PSP is pretty good, got the japanese import, 3 different type of mode per level and loads of levels + an editor, it does get hard though, whoever created the levels later on is clearly on massive amounts of drugs.

Pixeljunk Monsters - Look harder espadachin, it's been there ages, I think the expansion pack has been up as well, maybe?

As a massive media conglomerate you'd think Sony could at least stick a few trailers up there for when things are quiet.

Either that or fix the MGS Beta fiasco. Mind you they're probably shifting the blame to Konami.

Apparently, we are getting a God of War demo today though...

    Edit:

On the PSP PC store that is...

I was going to make the same comment. For all the hype and expectation, it's a simply puzzle game that get's frustratingly annoying very quickly. There also doesn't appear to be any kind of reward for completing levels.

I must be in the minority in thinking that this game is actually very good and a great way to exercise the old grey matter.

For me, a complicated challenge is what I play games for. Something that requires me to think in ways that I do not normally think is a fantastic thing. The concept of covering gaps in scenery to allow the guy to walk across them is so new and different to me that it catches me off guard everytime and I love that.

Normally I'd agree except that with echochrome covering the gaps doesn't always do what you expect it to do. Leading to some bizzare and totally illogical outcomes. To me that's not what I'd call fun.

I hope this game is reviewed in the style of Rez HD.

Sounds more like you are trying to shift the blame to Sony?

The reality is Konami fucked up the MGO beta ... like it or not. PSN has been running fine all along and other online games continues run unaffected.

Prodigy_BE: Having played through the Japanese PSN version, I can tell you that you needn't worry about the levels staying easy.
  • AOFanboi #24 4 years ago

The PS Store was filled with a shedload of new stuff today anyways, (CoD4 map pack, PSP-compatible flOw, two PS1 titles, Chains of Olympus demo... trailers, wallpapers...) so delaying one demo is no biggie really.
  • JediMasterMalik #25 4 years ago

penhalion in not liking playstation game shocker!

Seriously though, I loved the demo and saw the potential for some really challenging stuff. Can't wait for it to come out.

I actually just downloades this, played it for 10 minutes, then deleted it. I was becoming irked by the game deciding which part of its internal logic to follow at random - then I matched up a pathway (so that the border faded out) but my avatar still fell through the (now invisible) gap.

Also the music is incredibly repetitive and the motion controls are bad for large movements (you need to keep pressing and releasing R1 like working a tap).

    Not my cup of tea.
