"No one has blocked" Holocaust DS game

Publisher Alten8 responds to reports.

Alten8 has told Eurogamer that Imagination is the Only Escape has not been blocked from release by Nintendo, contrary to reports.

"The status of this game is currently concept / pre-production at this point in time," a spokesperson for the publisher told us. Apparently discussions with Nintendo have not even begun.

"[Imagination is the Only Escape] is only in its early stages. No one has blocked it, and it has no definitive time scale for release," the spokesperson continued.

"Luc [Bernard] is doing most of the artwork for all his game creations and we have not even discussed [IITOE] with Nintendo as of yet - Luc made various blog releases about the game concept and theme that have been picked up by various writers and used extensively, but are based on a few early artwork screens.

"In general we try to allow anyone we work with to use their creative talents and see no reasons why new type and styles of games and film content should not be tried," concluded the spokesperson.

Luc Bernard is currently creating five other games for Alten8, with Eternity's Child the only one in full production. Incidentally this has been approved by Nintendo for release on WiiWare later this year.

If Spielberg can make the Schlinder's List, there's no reason why they can't do a DS game about it.

Heh, never noticed the developers were called Altern8.

"Top one, nice one, get sorted!"

    Told you so.

Damn sloppy, all the sites that picked up this story.

I think the game should be given a chance.

I agree with Eraysor (from the earlier story comment they posted), about the game being a great idea, and all it's doing on the bottom screen is giving FACTS. These events took place. I seriously doubt that the creator is engaged in cynical profiteering of any kind, based on what I've seen.
He has a story to tell, and he should be allowed to tell it, and the people that want to buy the game be given that opportunity.

Who was responsible for editing the text out of the third screenshot on EG?

http://ko taku.com/360003/exclusive-etern... < shown in its original form there (3rd down).
Now, I caution folk that its unpleasant reading; but that doesn't alter the fact that it is a part of the game at this stage. It also obviously is a released screenshot being used to illustrate the game concept. I'm unsure of whether it MATTERS per-se that someone did that, but it is disappointing.

In such cases, I think it would be best for EG to mention that they've edited the image.

Seeing as it's often useful to see more of the full picture, http://ww w.destructoid.com/blogs/lucbernard < here's also a link to Bernard's blog, on Destructoid, where he talks about this game, his intent, and reaction to other people's feedback.

    @Machetazo

Agreed. Pretty shameful behaviour from EG really.

It IS unpleasant reading - but I really don't think I need EG to protect me from this sort of thing. IF they think it's too strong for their readership then they should leave out the pictures altogether and explain why.

I also agree. I don't normally comment on quality of journalism, but editing that screenshot without saying it had been done is misrepresenting the content and fundamentally unprofessional.

If some kind of mention had been given that would be fine. I don't personally object to EG censoring the content of their site. It is specifically the editing of content without reference being given that is unacceptible.

If the content was supplied to EG edited, that should have been mentioned. And if the content was already edited but EG were unaware of the fact, mention it now and we can all get off your backs.

On the subject of the game itself, I tend to think that because a story can make for hard "listening" is no reason not to tell it. And in fact sometimes is exactly the reason to tell it. From what I have seen for far, nothing about this seems to glorify the subject at hand. In fact it appears to be trying to communicate the facts surrounding the holocaust in a way that eprhaps makes it more accessible to some people.

I view that in general as a good thing. Good people hiding from unpleasant things allow bad people to do what they like (badly phrased, but you get my drift).

No doubt the mainstream media will see this title and think "a game cannot be serious, so a game about this most serious of matters must be bad". That is a real shame.

Just for the record guys, the shots we have of this game aren't edited in any way; they were grabbed directly from Luc Bernard's myspace page - http://www.myspace. com/lucbernard (it can also be seen on his Destructoid blog in the same fashion).
