No More Heroes heading to PS3 and 360 News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

18 November, 2009

Japanese magazine Famitsu has revealed that Wii game No More Heroes is heading PS3 and Xbox 360 in Japan in February.

Subtitled Heroes Paradise, the game adds Japanese voice acting and a mode where female characters wear little. Presumably there will also be adjustments made for higher resolutions. There are a few scans on Kotaku.

No More Heroes, released in January 2008, tells the tale of assassin Travis Touchdown who must hunt down and kill all other assassins with his magnificent laser sword, which is a cross between a Lightsaber and a strip-light.

Whether the Wii controls can translate to pad we'll have to wait and see. Still, it's encouraging to see Suda work on the platform ahead of the PS3 wand's and Project Natal's arrival next year.

As a Wii game No More Heroes stood out; it was a rare attraction for core gamers and, thanks to stylish design, quickly gathered a cult following. Catch-up with our review for a full analysis.

A sequel, No More Heroes: Desparate Struggle, will be released in January across Japan.

There's more on both Wii games below.

Cool! Now all the 360 and PS3 owners can enjoy the frustration of extremely cheap bosses with one hit kills!

It'll be interesting to see how well this works, I'd imagine the stylised visuals to make the transition to HD resolutions quite well.

Still quite niche though.

"Personally" I found No More Heroes to be pretentious comic book guff wrapped around a bad game.

Awesome news. I was enjoying this on the Wii until my console got stolen and my save file along with it. Was wanting to finish it, but with Japanese language, fewer clothes and Achievements this seems like a great prospect.

More importantly though, this was actually a good game that was released on the Wii. Getting it out to other platforms is a great move as many people probably didn't bother with it there. Mapping the controls shouldn't be all that hard. Shaking the controller to charge your sabre can be mapped to a button, as shaking isn't much fun. The special moves can go straight to the control sticks. Stance was controlled by tilting, but there was only really high and low stances anyway so that can go to a button. Only really leaves the weight lifting and squats at the gym, but those weren't really that much fun. Should work out pretty well in all.

Anyone reckon this will hurt sales of the sequel on Wii, I mean if the first one is being ported will people wait for the second one to be given the same treatment?

NMH is probably one of the most overrated games this gen. To me, it was a mediocre brawler with some boring minigames. It had a cool story and design, but it was like an empty shell - all form, no substance. And it was also very easy. I only died against two of the bosses. I can't understand why everyone started idolizing Suda51 after it, as if he were the new Miyamoto or something.

Anyway, there wasn't anything like that for the genre on the Wii when it came out. I wonder if it can do well on 360/PS3, where it will have to compete with some better games. Also, bad graphics, HD fetishists won't like that. The motion controls shouldn't be a problem though, they weren't that good in the Wii version to begin with.

@Vertical Stand: if i remember correctly, there were news of the second game getting CC support. I think that means they want to do a port of that one too. Of course, I guess it will also depends on the sales of the first one.

This was one of the cleverest games I've ever witnessed. Can't recommend it enough.

Everyone copped the Heavenly Star track playing in the background, right?

Brilliant game, it was the videogame equivalent of a Tarentino film, cleaver, violent and ultra stylish. I really hope the 360/PS3 comes complete with blood, cutting that for europe was a mistake.

No way was this an 'in-joke'. It was a celebration of so much that came before it. From the retro design elements to the sandbox environment, I thought it was a marvellous reflection.

I agree, mowing the lawn wasn't the most exciting bit of gaming I've played. But I only had to do it once - I did it a second time because I enjoyed it - and the game was designed so that you only needed to repeat the side quests just enough times before it encroached on boredom.

Personally, I felt that there was such a volume of audio and visual flair that the game won itself enough credit to be used on one or two stodgey mechanics, that the net effect was still overwhelmingly positive.

There were two difficulty levels in the beginning, one was pretty easy for any typical gamer, the other was not (and then you could unlock an even harder one if I recall). As for lacking any substance, you could argue that the entire game was designed to be over the top and the plot basically mocked a whole series of video game tropes.

Personally speaking, I loved this guy after playing Killer7 and everything of his I've played since has always been interesting. I won't say they are the most well designed or accessible games, but they are all at least unique.

@Evolution: yeah, I understand how the game was pretty much a parody of everything. But it was still supposed to be a game. And rather than having something that tries to do everything but is mediocre at it, I'd rather have something that only does one or two things but well.

Then again, I'm not a fan of sandbox games (GTA for example).

"Cool! Now all the 360 and PS3 owners can enjoy the frustration of extremely cheap bosses with one hit kills!"

Bad Girl?

You examine her carefully. If she is crying with one hand on the baseball bat, don't touch her, it's a ruse. If she covers her face with both hands, attack!

Avoid ground-stomp hits by dodging using the d pad. For the vertical bat twirl followed by hard hit, don't block, move to your right and counter.

Anyway, this enemy has specific counters and strategies for every move that work well, making her both very challenging but very satisfying once you crack them. I admit, first time it took me a half hour...

"Everyone copped the Heavenly Star track playing in the background, right?"

I play it almost every day :)

Well this game is seriously Marmite, but I'm in the Love It camp, I just keep playing it over and over. I really hope they patch it for Wand when that comes out. In the Wii early days I was hoping there'd be lots of this sort of game, but I've kind of given up - too many games featuring characters that look like they belong in kid's cartoons, and not enough ZombieMonsterNazi stomping (sorry Miss Gibson!) - and have bought a PS3 in anticipation of the Wand.

@sargulesh: you gotta give the guy some credit. Every game he's made until then had bombed, and NMH was the first time he actually managed to be successful. Of course he would try to cash in on that one, instead of making something new and risking another flop. And of course, milking the game includes spreading out to as many platforms as possible.

It wasn't perfect, but it made me laugh, I played it through to the end and I'm genuinely looking forward to the sequel - and now this, too. More games with ambition like No More Heroes - aspirations met or not - can only be a good thing.

Excited.

@Evolution: 1 too many! And it was the 3rd or 4th boss in the game, so after the tenth time of slowly weeding down her energy only for her to kill me in one move I gave up. The rest of the game seemed quite dull as well so they were no incentive for me to persist.

I thought NMH was pretty good, although it wasn't as good as everyone says, and it wasn't a patch on Suda's frankly outstanding Killer 7. I really must get round to playing that again.

Ditto. Sold it back two days later for about 1/3 what I'd paid.

Plenty of style, very little substance IMO. (The "-" button is in the upper right corner, enjoy.)

For fuck sake. I don't care what you guys think but news like this pisses me off. Thanks for making one of the few good Wii exclusives obsolete, Suda51 (or whoever's responsible). The motion controls are not even neccessary, so the 360/PS3 version of the game will obviously be superior to the Wii version.
Oh well, still gonna get Desperate Struggle for Wii when it comes out.
