What's not on the UK one isn't news. We know we get shafted, tell us what we actually get, that's the news!

Might try the Civ demo, fancy it but wouldn't risk it without playing the demo first.

Too bad re Database but no skin off our teeth as we can get it from our more usual shop, the US Store!

Civ demo is indeed a must try if you havent tried it before, its a great streamlined experienced rather than being an inferior cousin of Civ 4, as some PC folks would have you believe! Its great fun and still enjoying blasting through this demo.

Someone needs to tell SCEE that turning up to the "release schedule party" fashionably late in an attempt to look cool, just makes you look like a dick

Yes.. BUT... MGS4D from the US/JAP Store requires a savegame from the US/JAP version of the game to unlock MGS4 specific information. True we could get a US/JAP savegame from the net, but it still sucks!

The crazy thing is MGS4D from the JAP Store supports the same languages as the EU version of the game (Engilsh, German, Itallian, etc.) so no further translation should be required. SCEE continue to prove they should not be in the industry.

The US store updates usually updates around 4-6 PM Eastern Time - or around 9-11 PM GMT if I didn't get my timezone calculations messed up too much.

On another note, I'm really glad I finally got a US PSN account set up last month - works like a charm with EntroPay, so I'm definately getting Fatal Intertia Ex tonight. But please Sony, the real deal - aka WipEout HD - before the end of Summer, right?

I'm not with the "SCEE hates us" brigade, as that's plainly a silly statement.

BUT - I really would love to see a HARD interview with someone important from SCEE to explain these constant disparities. And as has been pointed out, the "localisation" excuse (a crap one to begin with) doesn't aply here as it's already translated.

It would be very interesting to see what corporate BS they cook up.

I agree with Mr_Dodger. The problem is that who is going to interview said person high up in Sony Euro towers? Would they be stern enough? No comment would be coming out of Sony or they just wouldn't turn up.

The biggest bullshit of all is this 'Europe and it's many languages excuse'. It's rolled out everytime. Why can other companies and areas cope?

I fear we'll never get the answers.

The delay to Echochrome is because they're releasing it the same week as the PSP version. The release date for that is probably determined by manufacturers/distributors/retailers (and giving plenty of room to FF7 Crisis Core).

Because MGS4 is preceded by something like seven or eight other games (including the original Metal Gear games plus a few PSP titles), and unless you're at least clued in on major story line threads, factions and character relations, chances are you won't be able to fully appreciate MGS4.
Personally I haven't played any of the previous games, so I went with Wikipedia and the 100 minutes, five part Metal Gear Retrospective video series at Gametrailers before I started playing MGS4.

i dont believe this to be true i understand the other games have some kind of backstory but theyre hardly relevant, the games that are are mgs 1,2,3..i have never played any of the others beyond these and i have no difficulty keeping up with the story elements

i mean if the others had story that was really important...surely they would have dropped the "4" in the title.

Well, I can only speak from personal opinion and experience of course. At the moment I'm around halfway through act 4, and I can definately say that there have been lots of cutscenes where I would have been confused to varying degrees if I hadn't taken to the time to at least check out the basic back story and character profiles at Wikipedia (the video series at Gametrailers might have been overkills, but I enjoyed it nonetheless).

Lots of plots and character developments going back several games - in some cases right back to where it all began - are being tied up in MGS4, and while the game actually does a pretty good job at hinting at what went before (though not through the completely useless "flashbacks" that are almost entirely impossible to make out in the split seconds they flash by), there are still plenty of information left out, and in numerous cases information I personally found rather vital to if not following the story, then at least for trying to keep up with the deeper relations between characters as well as their background stories.

This just confirms my suspicions that EG get most of their stories from NeoGaf.

Rob Purchese's daily schedule:

Turn on computer.
Browse Neogaf.
Write story with provocative, PS3 owner baiting headline. Post on EG.
Browse Neogaf.
etc.

It's just about being able to promote both games at the same time. I don't agree that people who love the Echochrome concept enough to buy two versions of the game are any less likely to do so if they're both released simultaneously.

We just have to come to terms that sony do not care much about europe.
I have had the PS3 since launch as with the 360 and the Wii, I am seriously considering selling my PS3, ok I have played some great games (Unchartered, Rachet & Clank & Motorstorm) but that is it. Yes I am playing MGS4, I have never played 1,2 or 3 and I have often found myself falling alseep during the cutscenes, but once I have finished it, I don't think I would play it again, I have not even tried the on-line mainly because of the hassel of registering, only one user per ps3, and i am not even sure if I can privatly speak to my friends. The on-line is p*ss poor compared to 360. I could be playing another game, my friend comes on-line and we can chat and play 2 different games, and when we are ready to play the same game, we can still continue to chat while it is loading.
Last night my firiend and I decided to have another go of gears of war on insane, co-operative, on private chat, and it was fantasitc, how great is it that he can join my game whenever he wants, and the chat works fine.
We both bought GT Prologue, and can we play together on-line - NO, can we with Forza - YES, can we with PGR4 - YES, can we with any other racing game on 360 yes. Thats why any multiformat game, I will always buy on 360, because I know the 360 works.

Sorry this is becomming a rant - I want PS3 to be good, I have spent all that money and had times it is a glorified DVD player. Why should we have to import a rumble pad, how great with MGS4 be with rumble. Why is Pain no on-line playable, when are we getting wipeout HD, when is Home coming, do we have a date for "big planet".

People come round my house and say, youve got a PS3 and a 360, isnt the PS3 better, the answer at the moment is NO, 360 beats PS3 hands down with gaming experiance. I don't want that to be the case. I want both to be equally good, so I can justify to myself not to sell it.

So Sony please restore my faith in your brand, or you will loose a family of gamers who will solely stay with 360

Another rant over

Beano: Yes fair points, sure can download US save game file for MSG4 but why should we have to do that?

EG: Pretty please arrange the interviews with SCEE, MS, Nintendo European branches regarding their downloadable contents/online support?

We all so love to see SCEE being able to give answers for their localisation efforts but not to single them out, should extend the same to the others. My view is SCEE would not want to be lambasted and prefer to hide in the sideline.

They may do read the comments here... you know who you are, WAKE UP!!!

If I want to play online with PS3, I have to use XBL chat so I can talk to my friends

2nd question should be "No! That's a bullshit reason! We want the real reason you feel the need to skullfuck Europe."

3rd "That's bollocks as well, stop making the same old shit up. Real reason or DIE (produce shotgun, violence solves some things)"

It's worth noting this also works for any of the big 3 companies, they all despise Europe.

I bought Fatal Inertia Ex last night (getting desperate waiting for WipEout HD :)) and it has actually proven much better than I expected.
Good graphics, no framerate issues (that was one of the big problems with the 360 version, wasn't it?), seven environments with around eight or nine tracks each (I wish many of them were a bit longer though), solid controls and very nice "feel" to the crafts, lots of weapon/utility pickups, four different race types (Magnet Mayhem can be a bit annoying) and a load of visual and performance upgrade unlocks that have large impact on the original basic crafts.

After the first two hours I would probably give it a solid 8/10 if I had to put a score on it.

Its good for reminding little important details from previous games and a nice thing for a MGS fan to have on its PS3... =P

Everyone can have a US/JAP account so I dont understand all the fuss about this... :s
