No Halo Wars for PC, says Microsoft

At this time, etc.

Microsoft has denied a report that it is developing a PC version of Halo Wars.

Happy sounding bloggers at Angry Pixel yesterday declared that the game is "also apparently in development for the PC", describing the source as "someone on the inside".

Not only that, said Angry Pixel, but the game would then support cross-platform multiplayer between Xbox 360 and PC versions, a bit like Shadowrun except, hopefully, not like Shadowrun.

Except Microsoft told IGN it's not true. "Halo Wars is being developed from the bottom up for the Xbox 360 and its control scheme to ensure that we deliver a groundbreaking console RTS experience," a spokesperson said not at all confusingly.

"Given that, we have no plans to develop Halo Wars for Windows Vista at this time."

It's almost as though Microsoft is commenting on rumour and speculation.

Angry Pixel, however, doesn't believe them. "I remember all too well how Microsoft vehemently kept putting down the Gears of War PC rumour and we all know how that one turned out. Nah, we'll just play the waiting game until Microsoft contradicts themselves yet another time and confirm this a couple of months down the line."

Check out our Halo Wars gamepage for shots and trailers of the Ensemble Studios-developed Xbox 360 game.

It's not like Halo Wars is shaping up to be any good. The gameplay footage is utterly rubbish.

hmm i dont think it looks that bad

seems a bad moves not to joint launch it

infact i reckon more money is to be made from launching on the pc before bringing it to console a few months down the line

you get idiots like me buying it for the pc, and then for the console as well to play with my xbox live mates

    supreme commander style

its a good job they do port these games onto the PC mind, the old pc is looking desperately short of AAA titles at the moment - I'm sure this will end up on there though, it's a no-brainer, surely?

Does anybody actually care about the game itself ? I dont ... or is it just because it has Halo all over it ....

Halo Wars is AAA? Since when?

Does anyone really care. Ill chew off my right ball of this is any good and comes close to the like of Company of Heroes... Of course, either way this game will likely see on the back of the name alone.

I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't come to the PC - they said in the past they're specifically targetting markets like Germany where the 360 sells a little sloooooow.

Don't think it looks that bad, and it's Ensemble Studios, after all. It probably won't win any prizes for originality, though.

Like always it will come to PC 1-2 years later.

", the old pc is looking desperately short of AAA titles at the moment" - 2007: Crysis, Orange Box, Call of Duty 4, Stalker, World in Conflict, Company of Heroes Opposing Fronts, Quake Wars, Supreme Commander, UT3, 2008: Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, Spore, Clear Skies, Dead Island, Fallout 3, Alan Wake.

    Just sayin' ;)

    @FooAtari

Halo Wars is AAA? Since when?

Since it had the word Halo in the title (AAA in terms of hype and sales etc not necessarily quality)

Lol, even their denials are vista-exclusive now.

I think he means on PC, not 360. Could the PC Halo games be described as AAA titles? I wouldn't have thought so.

Halo 2 hardly had stellar sales to start with, and now it's in the bargain bins for a tenner.
  • yagisencho #14 4 years ago

I would buy a PC version of the game. I would not buy an XBox version. Anyone at Microsoft listening?
  • funkyd #15 4 years ago

I quite like the game play video tbh.

That was kind of my point. Hype = AAA now? A game doesn't actually have to be any good to get AAA status. Anyway I don't think there is a lot of hype surrounding this game. A little maybe. Sure it has Halo in the name, but it's also an RTS. Not sure it will appeal to many Halo fans.

I meant both skillian. I just get annoyed when the term AAA is thrown around for any game. Like Killzone 2 for example. The first game was average at the very best. Until KZ2 proves itself the term AAA should not be found in the same sentence as the name Killzone 2.
