No Gears of War 2 at E3
Don't be daft, says Epic.
Epic Games has said that a sequel to Gears of War will not be unveiled at E3.
Rumours have been floating around in the last couple of days that a trailer for a second Gears game will be among Microsoft's big reveals during its press conference - taking place close to Santa Monica's E3 Media & Business Summit next month.
Epic's Mark Rein disagrees. "We are not announcing a sequel to Gears of War at E3 this year," he told Beyond Unreal. "Did you see the update we just did for Gears of War last week? We're still working on the first one."
Did you see it? No? Then perhaps you should head this way. There are new Achievements and everything. Actually that's mostly it.

You mean the rumor of how it's going to be timed console PS3 exclusive because Sony allows user created content, and MS thinks it undermines their XBLM business?

Ditto... I tried it last night as I've just got a new Sony HDTV and wanted to see how it looked. Sure, it still looks fantastic but the gameplay isn't anything special; it's very linear and, on occasion, somewhat... ummm... dull... watch long cutscene, find cover, shoot some stuff, move on, watch another cutscene, find some more cover, shoot some more stuff, move on and so on. At times, it feels like an Xbox game with prettier graphics really as there's absolutely nothing innovative or original about it beyond the incredible graphics and audio.

My exact same feelings. It's just boring as hell. You do the exact same thing over and over again. I loved it in the beginning, but now I even think Lost Planets better.

It's not the first time that a rumor of this type has existed, so i wouldn't be so quick to call it BS, but I'm not going to run away with the rumor either.

Part of me thinks it was largely criticised mainly because it was successful (like another MS exclusive ...) and not really because it was a bad game.

Announce a new Gears! Are you mad! We haven't nearly fleeced enough money out of the gullible fools playing the first one. Look for the asnnouncement when we release the free maps later this year and interest is low aftre bio-shock and mass effect.

It doesn't matter anyway I won't be surprised either way.

Go buy Crackdown - it's actually a bit good.

it has a solid SP, superb co-op (actually one of the best implementations ever, imho) and a very solid MP. SUre there are bugs, glitches and there's lag , and the old host advantage..but every game has that (bar the host thingy, i never noticed that untill GoW).
not to mention the stunning gfx i get on my 10+ years old telly..
aaaaanyway. WHo ever thought a GoW 2 would be announced anythime soon is either new to this world of gaming, or just plain dumb.

Sometimes the comments on EG are really quite pathetic. Gears is one of the best shooters released in the last 10 years. The cover system and active reload are more innovative than 90% of shooters out there. In fact I don't believe a third person shooter had been done well before Gears. Eight months after it's released it's still the best looking game on the market. Co-Op is immense.
Stop whining, it's a great game. Or would you rather push some mediocre "indy" game (like psychonauts) as the second coming to look cool?
Look, I can do it too: On these comments, MEH!

That's one thing I definately hate in this place.
People seem to have a strong dislike for any western action game that gets hyped (unless it's a sequel to a beloved PC classic, or it involved japanese boys with spiky hair and giant swords), whilst lapping up any indy game they like.
It's like those annoying movie critics that hate blockbusters (and frown upon those who don't share thier love for the cinema) whilst overhyping some bulgarian movie about leaking tap (in black and white) to overcompensate.
Gears is a great game. Get over it people.

P.S. I never got into the multiplayer at all, I found it dull (I'm not the greatest fan of online games anyway), so my views on the game are based entirely on the all-too-short single player/co-op campaign.

But seeing as we get all these heated reactions there must be some fans here huh? Funny how people can't stand people having a diffrent opinion then theirs. And call us EG Japanese alternative fanboys. When it's just the same the other way around.

Can you name some better third person shooters? I think you'll find the list is quite short. Maybe it just isn't the genre for you, because Gears is as good as it gets.
"Funny how people can't stand people having a diffrent opinion then theirs."
I have no problem with different opinions. However the vocal minority patting each other on the back is something I'm less fond of. Just thought I'd chime in that not everyone thinks Gears is a huge disappointment/crappy game.

It wasn't intended that way, but I can see how you could misunderstand what I meant. I just agreed with him that's all.

That still doesn't make it an amazing game though, just the best in its genre. However, I judge it against other shooters, first person or otherwise, and in that respect Gears is really nothing special as far as I'm concerned. It's just a good game but not what I'd consider a classic like, say, Halo or Half-Life 2 were. If it were judged on its graphics though, it would be the best game ever, ever, EVER! LOL

my point, as thankfully a lot have agreed with, is that GoW is a solid game. It is not as some stated 'rubbish' it does not have a crappy cover system..that's ludacris. The whole cover system was heraulded as one of the most innovating implementations in 3rd person shooters.
GoW not making it in to anyone's top 10, is quite possible. One might wonder which games DID make it into that list, but hey. I suppose action games are just not your thing then, fair enough.
as far as the overrated thing. from an 'neutral'perspective (gfx/sound/gameplay) it deserved pretty much all of the attention it got before release (aka 'hype').
as far as actual experience, that's where opinions come into play. SO a real gamer would simply say this:
good looking, action packed solid shooter, just not my cup of tea.
(that is, if you're not trying to stir up GoW-fans, which i think was your point to begin with)

I think Gears of War would be around 18th or 19th below Call of Duty 2 and 3 which had least had a decent lengthly campaign mode and a multiplayer mode I enjoyed (even if I'm not a big fan of online gaming).

Gears of War you said it might be the best 3rd Person Shooter. Ok That more likelly meens that YOU arent the kind of person that like 3rd Persoon Shooters or just action games in general as much. So I think that people like you souldnt come out and talk about Gears of War at all. The same reason why most chicks dont log in websites like these to say their opinions. Same way most of people dont like Baseball cant tell me their opinion on a team. SAME WAY all the morons that keep talking about Gears of War when they just bought a PS3 ( *YaY Sony brought the next gen in my room* kids. better l8r than never though ), they cant be telling me or anyone else what they think of such a game since they cant even get to play it.
Gears of War is the best at it's kind for sure, it's the only game of the kind that never lets you get bored, amazing graphics, amazing sound, extremely smart both single and multiplayer modes and its got great gameplay. Plus great for a splitscreen coop with your buddy. Most apriciated in this kind of game. So i see nothing missing from this game. Brought all the fuckin sonybots to full activation. One more reason to love this game. It really hurt some of them.
Probably they will get to play on PS4 the Gears of War Sigma and that will still make them happy. ^^

After playing it and you go to another shooter you sort of think "hey where'd it go!?".
In multiplayer it could make the difference between winning and losing. Mastering it with a sniper rifle was absolutely key, and the fact that it was mapped to a bumper meant that even if you were running/jumping ducking/diving, you could still perform an active reload if you were well-practiced.
@ Darren. You should think again. Going though on "insane" certianly does reward you with a different experience. The enemies are tougher, smarter and much more aggressive. This makes the whole gameplay dynamic change, and it also become A LOT more challenging. I would recommend playing it through with a friend on-line though - one of the best (if a bit short) co-op experiences out there. Not too much plot, just plenty of action and having to rely on one another.
