No console S.T.A.L.K.E.R. before Pripyat

GSC looking at PS3, Wii and Xbox 360.

GSC Game World has said there will be no console adaptation of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. before the PC sequel Call of Pripyat has been released.

"We think that whatever port of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for Xbox 360 won't come out before the full release of the game's sequel," Oleg Yarovsky, PR chief for GSC, told Stalker-Portal (translated by Strategy Informer.

"At the moment, all are busy with preparing the PC version of the game," added Yarovsky of Call of Pripyat. "What comes after - we'll see."

A console version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was revealed back in May, alongside Pripyat. Interestingly, however, Xbox 360 isn't the only machine GSC wants to get its radioactive hands on.

"We have become a developer not only for the Xbox 360, but also for the PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii," he said. "We've been also developing a prototype for the PSP, but currently there's not enough manpower to make our ambitions come true."

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat will be released for PC this autumn. We've got some moving-pictures and still-pictures on our gamepage below.

wii seems a bit of stretch for stalker it barely ran on the PC with all the bugs in it.
  • comissars_handgun #2 2 years ago

Sweet, want this game and my laptop will no way be able to run it.

Ok.. Transfering it to 360 its kinda easy.. To PS3 just a bit extra work for them but one way or the other it will look like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but Wii...? Stalker when it comes to it its about the way the visuals look.. ho the whole radioactivity has affected and activly showing the cuurent effects of it on the enviroment. With bad graqphis it wont be SUCH a worthy purchase of a title.. If i was a Wii owner id prefer them to make somethign similar yet different than try to redo Stalker for the Wii. I dont know if im understandable and if you know of the game enough but yeah.. It will loose the most of its few sweet spots as a game I believe but thats just my opinion.

Now, transfering it to portabnle, like PSP, i guess you can expect what its comming if it does happen on it so nothing wrong with it. For a PSP title might have some good sale numbers afterall.

a sequel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.!? could be the best game ever SERIOUSLY
  • cianchristopher #5 2 years ago

Yep, especially when you consider that the prequel to STALKER was* one of the best games ever!

    *is lying!

Hmm....i have a feeling that it will have console Witcher fate:(

This is a potentially great studio, but it strikes me that they overstretch themselves.

Porting to Wii and PSP might be a symptom of cultural problem within the studio...

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is about the only good thing to come out of Thq, and proves Thq need to drop film, television, wrestle game tie-in's ;)

Apart from the Dawn of War games, and Company of Heroes, and Titan Quest, and Supreme Commander...

One of the best publishers of recent years. They can do their wrestling games till the cows come home as long as they help funding games like these, as far as I am concerned.

    @JeffGerstmann
There has already been 2 Stalker games out in case you ddint know...
    @buggedbunny
And you are seriously telling me that all the graphical details OTHER than texture size will be pastable on the Wii? No... I dont wanna argue with you about it but you know for a fact its just not possible unless you havent seen how the game actually looks in other than low details. Thats a different matter. What im saying is NOT that its not possible. Its just not possible to make it look as good enough as a Stalker game needs to look since its basicly an eyecandy for its enviromental graphics.

Smart move. STALKER has incredible potential, but they haven't delivered on it, yet. It was too ambitious. They probably want to focus on getting it exactly right before bringing it to consoles (that's a huge investment)

I don't think THQ published Clear Sky, so I guess it's a bit late for them.
  • Nephirion #12 2 years ago

Crysis on the Wii would be both awesome and ridiculos...
  • UncleLou #13 2 years ago

first cysis now this, further evidence of the decline of high end pc gaming

Evidence how sorely the PC is needed for devs like GSC if they want to make a non-mainstream before they can afford to get burdened with console license fees, costs for devkits and whatnot, more like. Hardly a reason to celebrate for gaming in general if "high-end PC gaming" dies, unless you're a complete dolt. Not that I think the announcement for a port years after the original, and after the PC sequel is done, is particularly strong evidence.

I love the PC PSP Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii tags.

Best singleplayer FPS of the last few years, console gamers should be craving for this one although I just hope GSC can get back in their game with Call to Pripyat. Multiplatform can be done right but it ain't easy.
  • ukBoodhunter #16 2 years ago

Errr THQ only did the 1st stalker, I think Clear Sky and SoC were only so buggy because of the engine - they were still developing it etc which meant the stability of the overall game wasn't so good

Good thing they support the games with patches lots

Anyway stalker will always be a PC genre for me, and it looks prettiest there too :)
  • Nephirion #17 2 years ago

Seems some dev's cut their teeth on PC gaming, then once they establish a recognisable IP, enough cash they move on to console only and forget PC altogether
  • Rusty_M #18 2 years ago

I wouldn't call this a blow for high end PC gaming. For a start just look at how long it takes for these games to come to console. Take a look at operation Flashpoint as well.

Personally I'm mainly a console gamer so I'm glad of this news. Until recently I didn't have a machine capable of running STALKER but the one that is is a laptop. FPS on laptop = fail.

PC Gaming is still where a lot of the innovation is. Without that, there's much less hope for games like these on consoles.
  • asharkman #19 2 years ago

I'd prob buy this for the xbox, my pc is way to shiv to play decent games.
  • tzitzikas #20 2 years ago

    @davisorle

    i totally agree with you.

developers must finally realize that creating cheap ports for the wii will not suffice and will not be welcome by wii fans interested in that sort of games in the first place. what wii needs is what you said, versions of those franchises realized from the ground up for the system's strengths and weaknesses.

  • Janyamik #21 2 years ago

@donnie080208, I do not see any "further evidence of the decline of high end pc gaming".

You mentioned Crysis: Do you thing is going to be something higher in consoles thant 1280 x 720p? AA¿ Editor? Sounds like a bad nightmare joke. The modder comunity sounds inexistent one on consoles (a black point on consoles and a natural thing since Duke Nukem 3D Days: still behind from PC freedoom)

STALKER? Well, a very good game from 2007. Now is about 9 €. Do you really think about watching the game like in PC with Complete 2009 Mod? I seriously doubt it, dude. Its a compendium of 20 graphical mods. Bet againg on 720p.

Also with Max Payne 2 in ps2 the excuses of "its the same, only with lower resolution and less framerate": 3 years after ps2 release the console was outdated: is not nowdays just the same?

Have you take a look at first DIRT on consoles? or upcoming Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2 (1 also), Mafia 2, RFG, R.E.5 with ENB Series, Borderlands, and so on... 720p (besides Vsync off, like in Dead Rising and so many other)

Maybe you should take a look to ETQW, Battelfield 2, DIRT or Operation FLashpoint Dragon Rising: is consoles are "so powerfull", why they cut it down and mutilated multiplayer with half number of players? Price of the games in the other hand.

Maybe still there is people who get informed about what Volition said during RFG development about "xbox 360 and adding a single vehicule will tear down all the engine", or german developers about Risen devel.

So if you are happy with bad consoles topic, is ok. Maybe when DIRT, OFDR, STALKER o BBC 2 will be released, you should revised again that afirmation. Maybe you get surprised about the facts.

But when I buy a Race Driver GRID, UT3, L4D (I submit to the first line and SDK stuff) or DMC 4, I don not want the limited to 1 or 2 resolution version of the game, knowing if I get my PC copy I will be able to play then at 2560 x 1600.

Not to 720p. Did you saw how bad consoles moves new Wolfenstein? FEAR2? With a C2D 8400 and a GTX 285 you get a better performance in this game than in consoles version.

Imagine what a 4 core, or next 2010 year i9/12 AMD´s Core would be able to do? Besides Dx 11 and 64 Bits enchanced for (like with Crysis, GTA IV, ArmA 1 or 2, Universe at war, FEAR 2, two Lost Planet, DMC 4 and somo others.

So if 1280 x 720p and not cheaper version of the game are "the PC beating thing", maybe I should remember same engine in Wolfenstein can be move 5 years ago at 1600 x 1200 ?

Look what has limited resolution version of the game: the option to resale people game which they had adquired last gen (Serious Sam, God of War, etc)

    Can you play Max Payne 1 or 2 now at 1680 x 1050 or 1920 x 1080p/1200p? NO.
As the same way some games nowdays are againg limited version focus to play on a TV screen.

But forget about playing something call "Priobi Story" on consoles. You got no freedom for this.

Does Wii supouse a danger for PS3 and Xbox 360? The same for videoconsoles and PC.

Did xbox 360 version of L4D has 5 campaings or 20 like now PC one with the modders campaings? Now you know what version having also xbox 360 (for its real exclusive games) I did not buy.

Just forget about platform wars: as consumer, it is always a good thing to know what you are paying for and having on each version of the game, then you can decide which one you get.
