No bikes for Burnout until September
New patch delayed, but sounds exciting.
Criterion has pushed the motorbike patch for Burnout Paradise back from August to September, causing a little tear of sadness to trickle from our eye.
The team is adding the finishing touches to the free Davis update now, according to producer Jeremy Chubb and the US PlayStation blog.
When the patch does arrive, we can expect not only bikes - an FV1100 and Japanese Firehawk to name a couple - but also a day-night cycle that has more than a visual impact.
As soon as the sun goes down, Burnout Rides, which take you through checkpoints all around the city, become Midnight Rides that use completely separate routes.
On top of that are 70 specific challenges for bikers; 35 of those are the kind of timed, multi-part affairs added in Cagney, the free July update.
Criterion has plenty more free updates planned for Burnout Paradise, including the addition of biplanes and whole new islands to explore. The online support is certainly impressive; the only drawback so far has been delays for Xbox 360 updates due to technical hiccups.
Head over to our Burnout Paradise Davis gallery for a glimpse at the very lovely looking bikes.

That's a fantastic effort in this age of "death by a thousand cuts" micropayments for DLC.

Having played and loved pre and post cagney Burnout Paradise, it will probably be the first time that I happily buy DLC - I really am moved to give something back for what has been an excellent, and most importantly fun, multiplayer experience.

Here’s what Burnout Paradise players can look forward to, when they get the FREE Burnout Paradise Bikes Pack next month. (This is the pack formerly know by the codename “Davis”.)

EDIT: Ah, I see this come from a producer at Criterion. Guess it's official then!

Yeah I know, they said Trophies would be a completely seperate patch, ie not in Davis or Eastwood.
It's perfectly feasible that Sony asked them to get the trophy patch out first and delay the bikes for a couple of weeks, which in turn would Microsoft to actually pass the thing.

This update (the Bikes Pack aka Davis) is Free. Read the official Playstation Blog posted yesterday by a Producer from Criterion Games.

Great stuff around, and continuing to be added for BP.

@agparrot: I found that it wasn't really necessary. You only travel the largest distances in races, later on, when you have the faster cars available, to cut down retread time, anyway, all the while you're learning the route. I found myself begrudgingly agreeing with the devs decision, in the end, partly because of the pay-off when you do beat the event. This doesn't stop it from being annoying at times, but there's usually something else nearby, or online, that can be tried if you just can't be bothered to return to the start.

I couldn't agree more - the absence of such a restart feature didn't bother me one bit. Despite the fact I railed a little at Alex Wards arrogance over the whole game, I eventually ended up not just agreeing with him begrudgingly, but admiring what they have done with Paradise, and being one of its staunchest supporters.
I'm just amazed that no miserable people arrived in this nor the cagney-was-late comments to bitch about no restart option, and

I WANT RESTART OPTION, NOW!!!
Oh, and kudos to Criterion for continuing to make these updates free. Now if only the rest of EA's products where to do the same thing - FIFA being the main example with it's small yearly updates for £40!!!

Thanks Carlo5.
All this, and an extra island and stuff still to come in Eastwood.
What marvellous developer support. Imagine if Crackdown had had 3 or 4 major updates like this, we'd have far less time to be playing Paradise.

But I am really suprised by the support this has been given! New Islands, Bikes, day and night time cycles amongst other things, I must admit untill today i've not been paying that much attention, but I must say I really am tempted to pick this up again, and that is something i've never done before!
