Nintendo wants Miis on more than just Wii

Miyamoto says they're considering it.

Nintendo is considering whether to allow Miis to appear on other formats, such as 3DS, according to Shigeru Miyamoto.

"We need to keep in mind how we evolve the Miis and how we think about compatibility with Miis between different systems," Miyamoto told IGN.

"But that's something that we're definitely giving consideration to and want to continue to try to allow people to use their Miis on different Nintendo systems going forward."

Miis were introduced with the Wii and allow users to create cutesy little renditions of themselves that can be used across various games including Wii Sports and Wii Fit.

Nintendo has been having a big old think about its online strategy in general, as Satoru Iwata explained in an investor relations interview last month.

"I can say that we are not currently satisfied with the online efforts that we have made so far, and we are working at ways to improve those," he told the group.

"On the other hand, I do not think that online functionality is something that we should be devoting resources to for every single product.

"Instead, I think that Nintendo’s ability to create an offline experience that feels incredibly unique and compelling is a particular strength that we have."

They're not satisfied with their online service?

    They're not!

Even the iPhone has a half decent one!

I don't really give a damn about Miis. They're about as important for me as having multiple profiles on the PS3. Though both the user profiles on the PS3 and Miis are better than the Xbox avatars, which is just horribly forced.

They are already on a few DS games, Tomodachi Collection etc.

Microsoft avatars are featured much more prominently despite being a clone of mii. Though I just wish it can be turned off on dashboard... hey MS, can you make a sepearte tab on dashboard for all avatar related thing? Name it "social" or something, roll "visual" friends list, avatar editor, avatar marketplace, facebook etc. into it (so I can conveniently ignore them)

I think they need to worry about a few other things first when it comes to their online offerings. At least the Miis don't look all the same like the xbox avatars.

I just want to see them improve their downloadable game service. I don't really care about playing online much, I just want to be able to own digital games that aren't tied to the hardware. With any luck they'll do something about it with the 3DS since people will want to be able to upgrade without having to send their DS and 3DS off to the service centre to achieve what you can do at home with most other digital stores.

Lack of any persistent online profile and award/trophy system is something they need to resolve... having said that I do agree that single player experiences are their strength.

Avatars are more prominent because they want you to buy stuff to kit them out, the miis are much simpler (way fewer options yet it feels more effective at getting the job done) and mostly act as an image to attach to your profile.

And I would agree Mr Miyamoto.
