Nintendo hardware rampant in US

Yes Wii can.

Nintendo's Wii has once again topped US hardware sales, shifting 753,000 units in February according to NPD data.

The popular white box was followed by DS with 588,000 sales and Xbox 360 with 391,000 sales - its biggest ever month outside of the Christmas period.

Sony also had reason to cheer: the biggest month-on-month rise came from PS3, selling 276,000. PSP and PS2 rounded off the list with 199,000 and 131,000 sales respectively.

That means that Nintendo platforms combined to sell more than double Sony's total of 600,000 units.

Hardware sales cashed nearly USD 533 million for the month, up 11 per cent on the same period last year.

February US hardware sales

  1. Nintendo Wii - 753,000
  2. Nintendo DS - 588,000
  3. Xbox 360 - 391,000
  4. PlayStation 3 - 276,000
  5. PlayStation Portable - 199,000
  6. PlayStation 2 - 131,000

  • maximusfarticus #3 3 years ago

So, Nintendo is winning in Europe and The US? Good on em. Course, Sony is on course to win in Japan, good for them.

And Microsoft? Well, they're winning in Arron Greenbergs tiny little brain so at least that's something.

I'm not dissing/cussing/bashing or anything but I'm genuinely very shocked to see that in the North American market, the 360 still outsold the PS3 even though the PS3's biggest and most hyped title to date yet was released. Even in Japan, the 360 has become the number one seller for a month when big releases have come out.

Yea... a special place for the KZ2 flamewar.

    @ Gav

The PS3 is down on the prior year sales for the last 4 months, Sony have to cut the price!!!

Meanwhile the 360 is up 50% Year on year WELL DONE MS!!!!

    Nintendo; Bows
  • Doctor_What #10 3 years ago

... Except Farty, you overlook the slight issue with your logic again: the PS3 isn't 'shit'. Lots of people, myself included, love their PS3. You're stating your opinion as fact again, when it really doesn't tally up with many people's experience of the machine. It's not perfect, but it's damn good for lots of things (including games) and provides great entertainment in many ways for everyone in my house. The 360 entertains just me. That's okay, but in terms of value, the PS3 is better overall in my experience. Saying it's shit is just trying to start arguments again. Please stop it.
  • Dizzy #11 3 years ago

Yes the PS3 is being hammered... but I guess Sony doesn't want to lose money so this gen they will end last but not in the red. The aim was to sell Bluray anyway. They have a lot of work on the PS4.
  • ronuds #12 3 years ago

    KZ2 sold something like 320k.

"Look at hardware sales figures, look at software sales figures. Look at the continued decline of the PS3's market presence."

Look at the Dreamcast. Same thing. Does that mean it was a shit console? As usual, no one cares about your opinion apart from the other lolbots.

Skodas sell more than Ferraris but thats because they're cheaper and are bought by lowlife scumbags who don't know any better.

    Thats you farti.

"Skodas sell more than Ferraris but thats because they're cheaper and are bought by lowlife scumbags who don't know any better. "

But but.. the PS3 is the cheapest console. Sony said so. Now I am confused. Are you saying the rich posh people are buying the cheapo console?
  • maximusfarticus #16 3 years ago

    @Dizzy

You bought an Xbox mate, you're more than confused, you're fucking deluded.
  • GamesConnoisseur #17 3 years ago

Same old tired stuff being trodded out in the forums, in defences of various consoles!!

Why be loyal to one platform and express fanatic hates toward another? At end of day only a damned machine, so brand have right to command our loyalty?!

Sony deserves a big humble pie and this will also do Sony supporters good in the long run by having Sony working more harder to do better, MS also will want to get rid of the reliability issues but they won big praises from gamers for coming up with a product that at present day is still respectable position.

However neither Sony or MS can claim that they are happy with things as they are now, as both need or want to see a much bigger share as enjoyed by Nintendo.

I do feel the winners are us all gamers, as with more closer competition, the harder competitors will work to produce a winning games.

"The Dreamcast was crushed by a stronger platform in the same way the 360 is crushing the PS3, however although it failed to sell, the Dreamcast had great software."

Multiplatform titles may be better on the 360, but only marginally. The differences are barely noticable. If you're talking about exclusive titles, then judging by many of your previous posts, you seem very biased. Personally, I've only been disappointed with Resistance. Exclusives aside, titles are good across both platforms so I don't agree with PS3 having poor software.

There are many factors involved and I don't think you can say the PS3 is a shit console because the majority of people like one over the other. An example of one of those factors? Price. The price doesn't bother me too much but it's obvious a lot of people here are perplexed by the price.

I didnt like Resistance 2 either.. I thought it was quite poor, but been very happy with Flower, KZ2, LBP and Wipeout so far :)

I dont think the Sony sales are that bad... wonder if they will be able to manage/afford a price cut... that would mix things up a bit.
  • M_of_the_sys #21 3 years ago

    @GamesConnoisseur

I've always thought the same. The tougher the competition, the better it is for us gamers.

@Coin-Op: "MS make me sick and they have the most unreliable hardware in the history of video gaming, over 30 % of their customers got BURNED with red ring of death, me included."

Which MS gave you a three year warranty for free of charge.

" They have NOTHING to brag about with this hardware that is 100% going to fail you at some point in time."

Umm, you are aware that all hardware will fail at SOME point in time, right? And that faulty hardware is hardly limited to the 360, look at the PS2 and PS3 having various issues (PS3 not on the same scale granted), the PSP and DS coming with faulty screens etc etc.

Personally, I'd say MS have done exceptionaly well this gen, delivering a system that hits the sweet spot between performance and cost as well as delivering a great set of functionality for gamers and an expansive range of software. Nintendo, obviously, have a winning formula and that's likely to continue for quite some time yet. And Sony are doing okay but are desperately in need of a price drop. Oh, and while Killzone 2 may have only been out for 2 days that still accounts for all of the preorders and the initial hype purchases so I wouldn't expect to see a huge improvement in the next month.
  • maximusfarticus #25 3 years ago

    @farticusmaximus

Perhaps a more appropriate analogy would be your xbox as a dodgy kebab shop in the high street while the PS3 is a top class London restaurant and the games are the food served.

You've just wondered into my classy PS3 establishment in your stained "I Love Bill Gates" t-shirt, looked at the menu, scratched your arse and said "Dis ain't no good, ain't got no chips or saveloys or nuffin."

"I dont think the Sony sales are that bad... wonder if they will be able to manage/afford a price cut... that would mix things up a bit."

I don't think they should cut the price. Not by much anyway. Perhaps they could bring out a skimmed down version with no features and then advertise it nicely like MS did with the xbox for £129.99. RIP - OFF.
  • Thunderbolt #27 3 years ago

Using your analogy doesn't a London Restuarant cost a lot for very little actual food ;)
  • Dizzy #28 3 years ago

    >You bought an Xbox mate, you're more than confused, you're fucking deluded.

Deluded? Probably but I feel greatly superior to you since I own the most expensive console, lowly poor lifeform.

Come on! You're not even trying now!

I'd liken your reply to an xbox, desperately dull, lazy, only likely to interest those with learning difficulties who are very, very easily pleased.

The reason I chose a PS3 over the 360 was because most of my friends and work colleagues who had an xbox had to send theirs back. Many on more than one occasion. Now, whilst I agree that MS have possibly improved their rate of failure, it's still not acceptable to have so many fail so early; even with warranty. All hardware fails, but within a decent timeframe.

"There's a world of difference in both quantity and quality. Any PS3 titles that are passable (and there are precious few) have much better counterparts on the 360.

Frankly the Wii has a far more compelling software catalog than the PS3 and we all know how dire that is!"

Can you give examples of these much better counterparts? Where is the noticable difference to us non-blinkered normal people?

I'm not even going to dignify your second paragraph with a response.

Move along people nothing to see here. It's the same old story on vgchartz hardware graph , nintendo dominates everywhere, take them out of the equation and the graphs show that 360 does best in america PS3 does better in rest of world.

Dont worry Farty has lots of time as he finishes school at 3.30 every day, so he has lots of time to come on here and post crap about the PS3.

Most people just ignore him, but unfortunately he still sprouts his usual tripe.

thinking about it, who'd have thought that in the month of KZ release the 360 hardware sales would outsell the KZ software sales!!!!
