Nintendo DSi hits 1m in Europe News

DS News by Tom Bramwell

2 June, 2009

Nintendo has announced that the DSi has sold more than one million units in Europe after eight weeks on sale.

That's since its 3rd April launch - during which time the DS Lite, which originally took 13 weeks to hit one million, added another 500,000 sales of its own.

Nintendo had previously reported that the DSi sold nearly 100,000 units in its first two days on sale in the UK.

The dual-screen handheld costs GBP 149.99 and you can check out our hands-on for a reminder of what we made of it.

I blame Nintendo's rather effective marketing team.

I think the DS is great but I haven't been tempted by the meagre benefits of this version.
But if people keep swallowing this stuff can one blame Nintendo for churning it out?

It's an excellent little system. Worth the upgrade from my 'fat' DS as far as I'm concerned. Must admit that I'm far more interested to see what games the (mainly) Japanese developers will come up with for DSiWare than in new games for the home consoles.

The phrase 'more money than sense' springs to mind.

I own a ds lite and see little reason to upgrade - if anything its a downgrade due to the loss of backward compatibility although I accept things have to move on. I can only assume Nintendo use the same mind control device Apple used to get their stupidly overpriced mp3 player so popular early in its life.
