NiGHTS Wii confirmed

Famitsu report quotes producer.

Officially, SEGA continues to evade the question of whether NiGHTS is coming to Wii, but following more mag reports last week Japanese magazine Famitsu has now "confirmed" it, with a new name, logo, and a quote from Sonic Team USA producer Takashi Iizuka.

"NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams", the mag's website says, is due out this winter for Wii. "In 1996, we created the NiGHTS character to achieve a concept of 'being refreshed from being able to fly in the sky'. 11 years later, at last, we have broken our silence. NiGHTS will now fly in a new dream world: new stages, new story, and on the new Wii platform. Please look forward to NiGHTS and friends exploring this brand new adventure," says Iizuka in comments translated by Joystiq.

SEGA is expected to unveil NiGHTS - the sequel to the 1996 Saturn title - in more detail early this month. Wink.

Never played the first game but this sounds like fun. :)

NiGHTS was one of the greatest games on Saturn. Hopefully this is just as good. In light of Sega's recent efforts there is not much hope.

Wink? Are you flirting with me, Tom?

Good news... in the meantime a VC version of the Saturn original would be nice.

I wonder if they will use the same sort of 'time based' events that the Saturn used? For example at 0:00am Christmas Day (Eve if you like) Father Christmas flies across the game, Halloween something or other happened, stuff like that.

"NiGHTS was one of the greatest games on Saturn."

On the Saturn? Erm... try EVER! :D
    Let's hope they don't f*ck this up...

/wonders how they managed to hurt Sonic so badly...

    Sounds fun.

Hope it's better than any recent Sonic game, and you can actually control it.

    Now Sega where's Shenmue III?
  • Nova5lag #9 5 years ago

Early this month... so its an April Fools. hahaha.

    *Does a little dance*

I'd love to see a version of the first game on the DS too, it should work great controlling Nights with the stylus.
  • peteb #12 5 years ago

it should be pretty hard for them to mess this up...

Hmm. I may buy a wii (in the future just for this). Then probably sell it after.

But really sega, if you can release a sequal to NiGHTS, surely you can release shenmue 3? You're bound to make more sales from that.

I know Sonic team has gone a little down hill of late, but Sonic and the secret rings was a step in right direction, not just being the best console sonic for years, but also being one of the best looking games for the Wii. SO lets hope that that's a sign that NiGHTS will live up to expectations.

I'm also hope they include all the original levels as an unlock.

Nights always was a little overrated

Use the Wiimote to fly like a bird and collect things...

Seriously though... All good. Bring it on. Long live the Wii!

Hmmm....Sega USA? What are the chances of that being any good?
  • SomaticSense #19 5 years ago

Lemme guess. This was announced on April 1st? Hope it's real though.

Oh, and get rid of that bloody EA games ad, it's really pissing me off how it expands over the actual article if you accidently move your mouse cursor over. Fucking annoying. Ads are bad enough, but ads that intrude on the actual reading of the article is ridiculous.

The first one was great. I can`t wait for the new one.

I remember seeing this running on a Saturn (along with classics like Sega Rally, Daytona, Burnng Rangers, Guardian Heroes etc.) and thinking it was great. I already had a Playstation though (was a youngster), so never got the chance to play it.

    >surely you can release shenmue 3? You're bound to make more sales from that.

*Cough* *cough* *splutter*.. what planet are you living on? A planet where the only people that buy games are the nerds who post on interweb forums?

I am put off buying a ps3 to go with my 360 more and more each day.
  • Carpathian #24 5 years ago

I went a re-bought a Saturn, a "3D controller" and NiGHTS only about a year ago......and it was just as good as I remembered.

Bring on the Wii version !
  • smelly #25 5 years ago

I read a blog post the other day (lost the link) which says that this isnt actually very good.

ALLEGIDLY it started out as a 360 game, then got turned into a wii game. And it's only going to have a 1 year dev time.

APPARERNTLY (if the blogger is to be believed)

    Killer app!

Certainly a reason why I'll get a Wii when this comes out anyway.
  • cyber_nicco #27 5 years ago

I find it interesting how many people say "I'll buy a Wii for this". I mean, have any of you seen the game? Screenshots? Previews? Any-fucking-thing?

Jesus. All you know is it's a game called "NiGHTS" (and what's with the lower-case "i"?)

Don't get me wrong, I have no reason to think this WON'T be great, but do any of you know anything that really justifies statements like "I'll buy a Wii for this..."?
  • smelly #28 5 years ago

Did you ever play the original?
  • gkscotty #29 5 years ago

I'm cynical yet incredibly excited. If SEGA could get any game right, I hope to god it's this one.
  • SomaticSense #30 5 years ago

    @smelly

"Did you ever play the original?"

His point still stands though. No one knows anything about it at this point in time, let alone how good it'll be, so it's jumping the gun just a little to decide to buy a console for it.

Example: "Sonic 2 was ace!!! I'm going to get a PS3 or a 360 for the new Sonic game, that's bound to be great too"

    Another example: Perfect Dark Zero.
