    They're still making dreamcast games?
  • manic_mouse #5 5 years ago

Looks like they've stayed true to the original Saturn graphics...
  • Kami #6 5 years ago

Get a grip guys, this is NiGHTS - you know, this cartoony look is kind of what most of expected and actually want, as for graphics - well, I personally think it's looking pretty nice indeed, but then again it doesn't feature texture-mapped skintones with realistic water-dampening effect or realistic gun and real-time bullet physics or bouncing jiggly breasts dictated by the latest gravity engine. That may indeed put some people off. Or not perhaps, if you look at the DS and Wii markets as they are. Maybe this is its time?

I may be a little old-fashioned though... after all, I for one am of the opinion if a game is a complete steaming pile of cack then you can gloss the graphics up all you want - the game will always and forever be a complete steaming pile of cack with a set of nice clothes. If a game is truly wonderful to play, then whilst graphics make it shine brighter, it'll still be a truly wonderful game to play.

I'd much rather spend time with the latter than the former...

    >well, I personally think it's looking pretty nice indeed

Are we looking at the same shots?

The wii is capable of loads better than that.

Yes i dont care too much about gfx (or i wouldnt own a wii), but at least take advantage of the power you've got!

Kato, shut your mouth, you're no better. ;)

Duct tape in full effect! :0)

Yeah, that's TWO goddamn Cubes they have to their disposal, and we still get this? :(

No, the last four screenshots aren't very appetizing. I can't imagine why they would choose to show off a few big blurry bland polygons. I guess the point was to show the character design to the Nights fans? Meh. Let's hope they're just beta.

That first sceenshot though, looks great. I really love the textures on that patchwork thing, the overall feel. Let's hope the final product looks similarly nice.

(wonders what kato said - have him ignored)
  • smelly #10 5 years ago

ah.. i can log out to view it.

"e's been getting severely lambasted rather badly in the comments threads for the last few days for being a Ninty fanboy (and a twat in general)"

No i wasnt getting "lambasted" I was lambasting the 360 fanboy nerds like yourself who go onto wii threads with the sole intention of slagging it off. The only people who took offence were the retarded 360 fanboys who shouldnt have been in the thread in the first place taking offence to me pointing out they were being nobs.

So erm, who was being a twat? The twat going into the wii forum trolling about how shit it was? Or the person who responded and called said twat a twat?

You're a bit of a dumb ass arent you? Do you have any friends? My guess is not.

"So now he tries to issue an 'anti-Wii' graphics public announcement "

You sir are a moron. My post wasnt "anti-wii", if you had half a brain-cell in your retarded fanboy 10 year old brain, you can see my post says (And i quote as you're obviously too retarded to read it again yourself):

"The wii is capable of loads better than that. "

geesus, some of you retarded fanboys really need to get a life. It IS possible to own a console and not like some games on it you know. I own a xbox and felt that halo 2 was toss. I own a cube and thought that metroid was toss too.

See, some of us like GAMES - we dont care about the hardware its on.

Back on topic and ignoring the retard again.

I liked the original.. no i loved it. The graphics on this scare me, not because i care about graphics (i dont ), but because poor quality graphics which are much less than the hardware is capable of are normally indication of a team on a tight budget who are cutting corners.

Which makes me scared for the final game.

(still holding onto the dream though)

I own a wii and i have never seen a game that there is looking just a little better than a gamecube.

Its sad but well Wii is all about the controller wish is really really fantastic.
Fun for all the familie. Even my 2½ year old daughter have a good time playing wii boxing.

Hope the will make more fun games.

As it is now 360 and PS3 is more of the same, 3rd generation graphic but second generation gameplay.

Lol 17 comments in this thread, but i can only see 12 of them.. ace.

Presume most of them are from Kato - which is strange, why he even in here if he doesnt like nintendo?

"I own a wii and i have never seen a game that there is looking just a little better than a gamecube. "

True, but it doesnt mean it isnt CAPABLE of doing more, that's just lazy developers porting ps2 stuff.

If you look at mario galaxy for example, that game looks almost as nice as a lot of 360 games. Also look at videos for smash bros, one of them shows you differences between the cube and wii versions.

Theoretically the cube was more powerful graphically than the xbox - but didnt have all the whizz bang progamable shaders, etc. The wii is apparently double the power of the cube, so we SHOULD be seeing some nice stuff...

.. But the only nice stuff seems to be coming from nintendo themselves.

Now a lot of that seems to be developers rushing to make quick wii games after seeing how well it's doing.

But something like this which has been developed specifically for the wii - i expect something a bit nicer than "pre-cube" graphics (Which is what im seeing in these shots).

Sega havent half gone downhill lately (i used to be such a huge fan too!)

The Wii is about as powerful as the Xbox. The GC certainly wasn't.

It's a shame that the PSP is putting out better graphics than most Wii games, just look at the latest God of War screens.

Since the Wii is basically just an overclocked GC developers should be able to get the best out of it from the off. The thing is, if the Wii is already showing it's age (graphically) how bad will it be in 4-5 years?
  • ZuluHero #17 5 years ago

Can some of you so called 'gamers' take the following steps?

Take your console(s) from under your tv. That's it - put them on the kirb outside your house - go on, it won't bite.

Now go back in and sit down.

That's it - now if some of the local ASBO kids haven't already run off with them, some of nice men will be around on wedesday or thursday (probably wedensday) and take them away in a nice big refuge truck.

Well done. Now wait for your lives to be over, it shouldn't be too long, your cynical outlook on life has withered your sense of fun like Mr Burns' heart - you're just waiting for your body to catch up!

    ;)

    >The Wii is about as powerful as the Xbox. The GC certainly wasn't.

Yes it was. But it depends how you define "power". The only thing the xbox had in its advantage was programmable shaders. And a lot of developers have problems making games look good with fixed function pipelines.

    >that the PSP is putting out better graphics than most Wii games

Due to lazy developers - which was my point.

    >Since the Wii is basically just an overclocked GC

    Sigh.

Come on manic mouse, i had you down for one of the more intelligent people on this forum! Just because lots of forum trolls keep repeating the above sentence, it doesnt make it true.

The wii's graphical hardware is brand new and backwards compatible with the wii. It is "double the power" (so can do more polys/more throughput/more fillrate/etc) - but it's not just "overclocked".

Go look at mario galaxy, looks better than (oh gawd if i say this i'm gonna invoke the wrath of the fanboys.. ah fuggit) it looks better than some 360 games. It looks stunning!

And that's on the same hardware that these shots are from.

Now is that because the hardware is apparently crap (if so, why does galaxy look so nice?) or because the people developing this are being lazy?

  • smelly #19 5 years ago

    >Can we get back to...you know actually talking about the game?

I am talking about the game!

It looks like it's not taking even half of the advantage of the wii's graphical power. Which doesnt really give me much confidence of the game being good (if so little effort is being put in)
  • Kami #20 4 years ago

Smelly has a point though. Why do Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy and SSBB look awesome? Here's a little secret... they're Nintendo-based franchises and they know how to use the hardware that is there.

When all is said and done, yes you can bring developers on board for a system, but you can't make them take advantage of what is there. Until they can get to the kind of standard Nintendo themselves are proving the system is capable of, there are going to be a lot of not-great-looking games out there on the Wii.

In short, yes - technically it is twice the power of the Gamecube. However, that is small consolation if the developers are too thick to use it.
  • Nikanoru #21 4 years ago

Nonsense. Why? Because the Wii is a Cube on steroids and everybody should already know how to use it. Don't you remember Nintendo even gave developers Cube devkits before the Wii was released because it didn't matter? Someone mentioned the developer's manual for the Wii is about ten pages long, because everything else is the same.

It's like Miyamoto said, developers should just stop putting their second-rate teams on Wii projects. Then again, they might already be following that advice right now, and we're not seeing the results just yet because of the whole late-to-the-party thing.

On a sidenote, the new screens look really nice. ;) Between those two boss battles they're showing here, this game looks so much more imaginative and fresh than almost anything on the market right now. Purely visually speaking, I'll take this over Halo 3 any freaking day.
