Next EVE expansion titled Apocrypha

March release date confirmed.

CCP has revealed the title for the next free EVE Online expansion, to be launched alongside the return of the space MMO to shop shelves courtesy of Atari. It's to be called Apocrypha.

CCP also confirmed the March 10th release date that it originally announced at its Fanfest event in November last year.

Our coverage of the announcement has full details of what's coming in the huge expansions: epic branching missions, wormholes to unexplored space, Tech 3, modular ships and a completely reworked new player experience.

CCP's press release also notes that Mac players will finally get a client for the Premium graphics version of the game with the release of the retail edition.

Loads more - including a preview of the Walking In Stations project that will bring avatars to EVE for the first time - at the EVE Online gamepage.

Well I just started playing this and I am not bored of it yet

The learning curve isn't as bad as people made it sound

I agree, it's not as cliff-like to learn as reported by some. It is overwhelming at first though.

But when, exactly, will walking in stations be launced? A lot of people are holding off while waiting for this.

The point about EVE is that many see Battleships and bigger as 'endgame' ships and as time subcribed = how good your ships are, many feel 'behind'/'less powerfull' the older players and thus think it's too late to play the game and 'win'..

The true fact is CCP are great devs in the fact EVE is truly 'balanced' when it comes to ships, Battleships may be built like tanks and 'all powerfull' but smaller ships are harder to target and hit and in teroy and practise you can 'win' with smaller ships.

With the new player experence improving all the time, it's less and less overwhelming then it was years ago and with the game hitting the shelfs again it's a good time to pick it up as even tho it has small numbers compeared EVE is THE MMO not WoW you've got to play

@Ole - The Avitar bit is a way off iirc (possly end this year-mid next), March's expantion is NOT that update

there is a 5 million billion bounty on the person top of the list, they have played for 6 years

@Kremlik: thanks for the update; I think I'll give EVE another try when Walking in Stations hits then. Which is good news, as I'll get to enjoy a lot of other great games up until then. I hear EVE is sort of hard to combine with other hobbies...

Benno, if you are refering to Salvador Sarpati, the CEO fo Serpentis, then hes effectively an NPC, so doesn't really count.

But yes, some players can attract some really high bounties, and have certainly earned them.

For those of you who recently started, look up 'Eve University' in-game. We help the new players get on their feet and answer their questions, providing skillbooks ships, ammo and so on in their first months.

I thought about Eve Uni, but in the course of trying how to figure out how to do stuff I ended up learning most things anyway! But I've heard nothing but good things about Eve Uni, I'd certainly have applied if I'd not understood things.

What will this expansion really mean to new players, or low skill players? I can't see a wormhole opening in my usual hangouts.

wormholes are supposed to open up anywhere from empire to 00. i havent read the article about them in EON yet tho they are an extension of exploration though so i suspect that you will have to scan them down rather them just popping up as a system-wide beacon on your overview.

this said maybe they will be like faction war complexes and become visible to everyone if one person finds it. Who knows.

also confirming that altho ive been playing since 2006 i regularly get my ass kicked by newer players. player age is definately not a win button that it is in many other mmos, it helps, but nothing that skill and planning cant beat.

ill say it again.. Eve = a 2nd job.

    Bloody game burnt me out!

I applied to join eve university, and by the time I have figured out all this custom channel nonsense and unblocking people I got ignored by the two recruitment people online, so screw it.

    @ Olemak

Walking in stations will add a fancy new 3D interface and a few distractions to being inside a station, but the core mechanics of EVE are all about whats going on outside! I am looking forward to walking in stations, but I dont expect it to change the fundamental EVE experience.

Take a look at my corp's website to see the way M.Corp rolls.

I'm seriously thinking of quiting WoW for good, it's just too much crap now. I created an EVE account in 2003, maybe it's time to resub and give it another try... Warhammer was a joke so I won't be paying for that one.
