Newspaper stands by new DS report

Says Iwata DID mention motion sensor.

Japanese newspaper the Asahi Shimbun has claimed it did not misinterpret comments Satoru Iwata made recently regarding a new DS.

"The article quoted Nintendo president Satoru Iwata's comment accurately," the paper told Kotaku.

According to the original Asahi Shimbun article Iwata said, "[The new DS will have] highly detailed graphics, and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing."

However, Nintendo later said his statement had been misinterpreted.

So who's right and who's wrong? Who knows.

the motion of one's fingers on the buttons will mysteriously evoke actions on the screen

They should post up the recording from the interview, assuming it was all shorthand... *shudder*

Who cares. It either has it or it doesn't. And Nintendo should know.

Not interested in who is right or wrong.

More to the point why are they making the new DS miles bigger than the last version, when everyone else is making their gadgets smaller (IPod Slide, IPhone Nano etc.)?

@ Pac - because part of the growing DS audience is older people, parents, grandparents, etc, who find the current version a bit too small and fiddly.

I suppose so. Can't they just wear glasses like the rest of us :)

Ninty are also claiming that the screens have a much wider veiwing angle so that people can watch others playing.

All sounds a bit daft to me.

you just answered your own question
they're making theirs bigger since everyone else is making their gadgets smaller.

Think about it: with a phone portability is a primary concern, however we all know most handheld gaming is actually done within the house. They're is no need for it to be ultra portable. In other worlds you can afford the luxury of a bigger screen. It becomes a Unique Selling Point.

It wouldn't suprise me that the DSi XL is partly out there to get us use to the bigger form factor that DS2 will need to be in order to run GameCube ports. Also I bet a redsigned Luigi's Mansion will be one ofhe first titles at launch.

Newspaper: "I think we know a LITTLE more about the next DS than you do, Iwata."
