Fight Night punches onto PS3

With new first-person mode.

It may not be a sucker-punch surprise, but EA has confirmed that Fight Night Round 3 will land blows on PlayStation 3 this winter.

The highly-praised boxing sim won’t be just a simple port either, as new features are being added to the mix. It'll be "the closest you’ll get to trading blows with Muhammad Ali," according to producer Michael Blank.

The new Get in the Ring mode will be entirely first-person, allowing gamers to really take it in the face. We'd imagine it'll be similar to the switch in viewpoint featured in the Xbox 360 version, where you concentrate blows right at your opponent's noggin. Which should really show off those lovely facial animations.

And when we say ‘facial animation’, we mean the split lips, busted-up eyes, flying sweat and streaming blood.

You can also expect complete ESPN Intergration - updates, scores, breaking news, radio and real footage via ESPN Motion beamed live to your console.

There really is no escaping the punch-drunk action.

There’s no word on an official release date yet, although we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a launch title to help the PS3 knuckle-up to the competition.

The 1st person mode should be perfect for the tiltroller.

"the closest you’ll get to trading blows with Muhammad Ali,"

    I severely doubt that.

i'm kinda shocked that EA bothered to put in extra features in the PS3 version of FNR3.

Why LOLLERS, you going to going to go over and get your lilly a$$ stomped by The Champ any time soon?

Well they didn't do much to improve FNR3 over FNR2, unless you count the inclusion of advertising such as burger king and some meaningless car brand that escapes me......

Shame it will continue to be a shallow arcade game rather than a boxing sim, and presumably the career mode will continue to be rather hollow and perfunctory.

My friends who go boxing all thought it was a rather brilliant adaptation of the sport to a videogame. But since you apparently meet Mike Tyson in the ring on a regular basis: what would you recommend as a boxing sim?

As soon as it went into 1st person mode on the 360 version I got instantly confused,it just didn't feel right, and the whole point of it in that version was to disorientate the player wasn't it?If so,why put it as a playable mode on the PS3?

I know this is said a bit too much sometimes, but surely a boxing game would be great with a pair of Wii controllers?

The PS3's tilt sensor isn't enough, unfortunately, as it doesn't have a location sensor as well as tilt.

i picked up fight night 2004 from pcworld for the xbox for a ridiculous sum... of 97pence. it was a sealed copy and what did i do? stupidly sold it on ebay without putting in a reserve. i only sold it for £3. kicking myself silly over that.

True enough, the Wiimote is more position-friendly, but there are still workarounds even when one only has accelerometers to work with.
