Avary talks Silent Hill movie

It's all about the fans.

Roger Avary, author of the screenplay for the forthcoming Silent Hill movie, has promised that it'll be firmly based around the actual games.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Avary said: "Christophe [Gans, the director of the movie] and I knew how passionate the videogame fans are for Silent Hill.

"At the minimum, we didn't want to piss them off. We wanted to make this movie for them."

Avary went on to observe that this isn't always the way with videogame tie-ins: "Hollywood executives are very quick to throw out the source material of a game.

"Doom kills me. That was one of the movies I wanted to do so badly. I met with them early on, and I looked at the original script and asked, where's the Doom in this?"

You'll be able to judge the Silent Hill movie for yourself when it opens here on April 25th.

I hope silent hill is good and he's got a good point about doom - the script let it down really badly but could've been fixed.

Yep, hope he gets to make the film he actually wants too. However I always get a bad feeling when someone makes hard-to-live-up claims so early in a project (whether it be games or movies). The end result usually fails to live up to any of their claims.

    Pessimist - who, me?

I think this has every chance of being awsome. Not least of all because the Silent Hill games have some of the most mature, well developed and interesting stories of any game i've yet played. 1 and 2 especially. They really were crying out for a movie treatment and everything i've seen of the film looks very promising. The trailer looks great, and so long as they've managed to fuse the 2 very different stories of 1 and 2 together in a decent way I'll be happy.

Silent Hill is enticing me to visit the cinema for the first time in over five years. So it'd better be bloody good!

The posters and images do look absolutely excellent. Has it got a rating yet btw?

    I expect it'll be shite if it has a 12A :/

Heck! That trailer is excellent. I'm officially very excited now. Little girl from Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital in it too, she was good in that. I haven't played much of the games, but I recognised a fair amount of nods. They're fusing 1 and 2 together? Sounds interesting.

Yeah no idea how they're going to combine the first 2 games, It looks like its 99% the first, with a few elements brought in from 2. If you ask me they should make the first 3 games as 3 different movies. All 3 would stand up as full length features I reckon.

well a recent clip seen by industry people showed pyramid head dude stick his hand into some guys chest, twist his fingers into the skin and then pull all the skin of it's body in one go, then holding the flayed corpse in his hand.
No camera pulling away, just gore! so maybe an 18

I'm not that bothered about films from games TBH.

That said, Avery is a decent enough director, with both Rules of Attraction and (to a lesser extent) Killing Zoe delivering the goods. Hmmm.
