Dirge of Cerberus out in Nov

Complete with healthy extras.

It’s been a long time coming, but European gamers will finally be able to get their hands on Dirge of Cerberus - Final Fantasy VII this November.

Our version won't have an online play option, unlike the Japanese version, on account of none of us having a hard drive for our PAL PS2s. However, it will boast more than 40 extra missions for hero Vincent to swan his way through.

Square-Enix is also promising an impressive list of additions and tweaks to the original Japanese release, giving Euro FF fans plenty to look forward to.

These include Vincent being able to move 1.2 times faster and use a new double-jump, quicker aiming that can be increased by customising weapons, a new rush move and a magic bar that no longer depletes when using the Limit Break attack. Feel the love.

There’s also a batch of modified weapons, artwork and sound galleries as well as a new character model to unlock by completing the Ex Hard mode, for those that consider themselves truly hardcore. You know, like, double hardcore.

So, November’s the month for those that can’t wait to indulge in slick gunplay, over-stylised hair and effeminate clothing.

Is this a 'proper' FF game or some kind of spin-off?
  • dadrester #2 6 years ago

are these changes likely to give it a better score than the Quite dreadful NTSC versions have been getting?

Cosmopolitan, it's a spin off... kind of like devil may cry, but apparently very badly recieved.
  • Steroyd #3 6 years ago

yeah the tweaks to the NTSC version while they said it was an improvement it was still dire.

I could only hope that the further tweaks turn it iinto a decent game but i think the game is a lost cause.

What's worse because i'm a Final Fantasy whore...
    I...Have...urge...to...waste...money...on....it... :(

FF7 Spin-off staring an optional side character that had no personality and never really said very much.

Said character became a fangirl favourite, and Square decided to make a game about him, accordingly his role in the FF7 Movie was increased for more people to remember him.

    Ugh Square.

Dear Square-Enix, the following information would have been preferable.

    1. There are no additional improvements or additions to the US version of the game.

    2. The game has or has not been optimised for PAL video output / it has or has not got an option for original NTSC-60 output.

    3. Game will contain English voice acting with fully translated text for French, German, Italian.. / game contains fully localised voice and text.

    4. Release date.

Dear Square-Enix, the following information would have been preferable.

    1. Kingdom Hearts 2 release date, you bastards.
  • Razzajazz #7 6 years ago

I think Kingdom Hearts 2 is 29th Spetember, Blerk. I'm frantically trying to complete Chain Of Memories before then! God bless the DS's GBA port! :)

"1. Kingdom Hearts 2 release date, you bastards."
    End of september

"are these changes likely to give it a better score than the Quite dreadful NTSC versions have been getting? "
7 isn't dreadful. It wasn't for the Japanese version and it wasn't for the american.

Vincent was a Very popular character(and not just among girls), probably as a result of the lack of background info provided in FF7. He was also one of the few FF7 characters in Ehrgeiz while many of the other FF characters weren't. His weapon, interesting Limit breaks and mysterious tormented nature made him a fave.

"Cosmopolitan, it's a spin off... kind of like devil may cry, but apparently very badly recieved."
Nothing like Devil May Cry actually. More like...a third person shooter with a Time Crisis mentality when it comes to AI. unforutnaly the changes mean there is no skill involved in hitting things in the American version and it all becomes a little to straight forward.

I'm willing to give it a try with mouse & keyboard/pad with the autoaim off. If you can do that.

If Kingdom Hearts II is released on the 29th of September I will be surprised. Square-Enix haven't officially announced a date for it and the 29th seems to have come from pure speculation from the online shops.

Cerberus was the name of the dog in my Latin lessons at school.

Just thought I'd throw that out there...

Thanks for that, my life really seems fulfilled now.

    FF XII FFS FTW ETC!
  • Kazzahdrane #14 6 years ago

Actually there's no online play because the servers have been shut down.
  • Scimarad #15 6 years ago

Considering how bad the frame rate is on the US version I'd suggest avoiding this like the plague...

It's the 29th on our release list at work too, so not just online shops.

I believe that really is the date now, quite a lot sources are saying it is so.

"Considering how bad the frame rate is on the US version I'd suggest avoiding this like the plague... "
The frame rate is pretty solid. There's a few odd moments that it drops (like on the Sierra and when facing off in the Kalm square) but apart from that it's solid.

"Considering how bad the frame rate is on the US version I'd suggest avoiding this like the plague... "
You Can do that. But then I suggest playing in Hard straight away. Normal is too easy on mouse and keyboard.
  • Scimarad #18 6 years ago

Sorry, mouse and keyb...? I play console games to avoid that sort of nonsense!!

As to the frame rate, I've only got as far as the WRO building (after Edge) and frame rate is HORRIBLE in the big starting room - You obviously have a much higher tolerance for these things than me.

KH2 is out in a matter of weeks? What, they just forgot to tell anybody? Seems unlikely.
  • thefilthandthefury #22 6 years ago

It does seem unlikely, but that's the date that most online stores, and my GAME store, have listed so if it's wrong then a lot of companies have got it wrong. Remember, it won't be a big release in the UK at all so they probably won't promote it much at all.
  • TripleSeven #23 6 years ago

You can say about that game what you want. It's - apart from its story and characters - relatively mediocre.

But claiming that Vincent Valentine has no personality simply shows that you haven't played Final Fantasy 7 - or not the way its supposed to be played. He has a very interesting back story. You'd have to visit various places to learn about it. Plus keep him in your party of three.

The PAL version's basically the NTSC US version. There are some video reviews available, as usual.
  • pikemon #24 6 years ago

    i read 'cerebus', as in the comic book... ;_;
  • absolutezero #25 6 years ago

    Interesting Backstory =/= Personality.

He was like Squall in answering or commentating on everything with "I don't care. "It does'nt affect me" or the classic "..."

He was dull, life-less and his limit breaks were awful.

Cid needs his own game, it could be a cross between an RPG and a shmup
