Pro Evolution Soccer 5 demo out

Grab it from Eurofiles now.

Konami today released a PC demo of the hugely-anticipated Pro Evoltution Soccer 5, and you can download the 155MB file now direct from Eurofiles.

The demo features four sides to choose from: Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Valencia, but don't be alarmed by the lack of commentary. It's supposed to be like that; presumably to keep the download size down to a minimum.

In other PES-related news, Konami today released Winning Eleven on PSP; something our man Tom is rushing off to buy as I type. No doubt we'll get to find out what his thoughts are on this hot new addition to Sony's handheld line-up early next week.

Be sure to check back soon for more on Konami's festival of footy.

Is it just me, or did the control feel a little "stiff" this time?

    ewww PC controls

There was a thing called PC gamepad, was even available in the last century.

Oh bloody great - I go to "Match" and it reboots my PC!

When's the demo due for nice, STABLE hardware? (i.e., not my PC?)

Bought one of those PS2 controller to USB things from play, havent tried i yet thou, shall warm it up tomorrow :)
  • KiLlerKnight #11 7 years ago

Played some matches, but haven't discovered any (real) improvements (yet).
    But will buy anyway LOL.
  • coderkind #12 7 years ago

Hmmm; game seems harsher (they've made referees clamp down on hastling other players).

I hope they sort out the 'physical contact' aspect for the final PES5 release, I don't know about this demo (I don't like playing sports games on my PC) but Winning Eleven 9 is pretty horrific for needless fouls.

The subtle changes in the game will, like all recent PES games, only become apparent after a few days' play. I'm not sure what the 'middle shoot' button is on the PC, but that's a nice addition, especially if you're Adriano (whom you can't be in the demo cos he plays for Inter and they're not licensed)....

That Pro Evo 4's quite good you know. Just like Back to the Future, "There's something awfully familiar about all this..."

This may sound like a daft question, but does the P2 usb adaptor work with this demo?
I have the adaptor, but no P2 pad. However i was going to try and pick up a second hand pad tonigh, if it will work.
Demo looks great, but using the keyboard is pants ..
    Can anyone help :)

it's slightly slower paced and more thoughtful than PES4 was. the tackling in particular is much more sensitive: you have to time it more carefully or you're going to be called back for fouls repeatedly (speaking of which, why do they have this new animation of the referee pointing for a free kick? waste of time). some things are smoother/quicker, particularly throw-ins and goal kicks. shooting seems less lenient too. animations on the whole have improved.

I think it's better than 4 after a few games, but not vastly. and I need more time with it to get used to the more subtle touches.

I also bought one of those pS2 USB things, and i'm waiting for it to arrive, as keyboard controls are just horrible. I wonder if the analogue stick works on the pc? PES Fanboy, the whole of the serie A teams are licensed like last year. They've retained all the ones they had last year, but were only able to get Arsenal and Chelsea from the premiership.

Oh yeah......damn.....will have to get a new username now, after that momentary slip-up...

I've got a dual USB PS2 converter and it works perfectly..

I hate those time-wasting in-game cut-scenes.. why is there no option to turn them off? (not in the demo I mean.. but in the final game - wasn't in PES4 at least)..

shit hot, small and subtle improvemnets, players move more intelligently off the ball, passing is smother, once again they have somehow improved on perfection.
  • KiLlerKnight #21 7 years ago

    Improved on perfection?

There are so many annoying things about PES it's BS to call it perfection, it's not even close. It's the best, I am a big fan, but no game is perfect, certainly PES not.

Every fan should know what annoying things I am talking about, so no need to repeat them here.

Everybody is whining about EA selling the same game every year, but Konami is actually doing the same thing with PES, sure there are small improvements every year, making it better and better, but when are they going to fix the real problems? The reason I buy it every year is because there is no better footie game on the market and because I don't need to sell my house to buy the game LOL.

redexter is right on every count. I can't wait for the Xbox version.

I for one particularly like how the CPU has calmed down and gives you a little more time on the ball. it means you'll have to use it more intelligently when you do make your move, sure, but it's more reflective of real football that way.

the ball is definitely lighter than it was in 4, it seems to bounce around more. this is also good.

redexter is right on every count.

Er... yeah - apart from his assertion that PES 3 & 4 were 'shit'. That is not right. That is not even close to being right. that is, in fact wrong - very, very wrong. Though if you boys are crowing about this PC demo then I'm very much looking forward to its release on Xbox and no mistake! :)

Incidentally, I'm NOT one of the fanbois who thinks that every PES incarnation is perfect. Far from it. But I do believe that many of the series' faults lie with its perfomance off the pitch as opposed to on it, i.e. Godawful commentary, woefully inadequate Live implementation, less than impressive licencing, etc, etc. Though I'm not going to complain if they have improved the on-field action, as long as they address some of the more peripheral aspects too.

I hope they've fixed the 'keeper miles off his line' problem that made lobbing and long looping shots and one one ones easier.
