Vice City Stories delayed News

PSP News by Ellie Gibson

8 September, 2006

Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories won't be appearing in shops till November now.

The PSP title was down for an October 20 release date, but a spokesperson told Eurogamer that it's now set to go on sale on November 3.

GTA: Vice City Stories will feature a brand new storyline, new missions and gameplay, although the setting will of course be familiar to anyone who's played GTA Vice City on the PC or PS2. Why not watch the trailer over on Eurogamer TV, if you haven't already.

Surely the PSP has nowhere near the customer base to spoil the launch of a new (groundbreaking) console with a tthirty quid game?

You people do know that it's Rockstar delaying the game, not Sony, right? ;)

hmmm so it's not just Sony that shuns Europe it's every fricking developer not based in Europe.

Hell i don't even think European devs launch their titles in Europe first. o_O

No, what are you talking about, it's clearly Sony's fault.

Sony tease stingrays for laughs, too.

The Rockstar studios behind GTA are based in Scotland and Leeds.

Hang on... so it won't be familiar to those who've played it on Xbox..? There's me thinking it's a port of the same game ;)

I don't know why some people are surprised. Haven't the last 3 GTA incarnations suffered a couple of week's delay?

Rockstar are based in Britain!

I hate the shoddy treatment we get. I live so close to Rare I could walk to their HQ, so imagine how frustrated I was to see Perfect Dark released in the USA months earlier than over here. If this is a euro-only delay, I'm going to be annoyed.

Why would they have to delay it for us? I don't get it. It's not like they're going to run out of UMD discs.

Rockstar North make the main GTA games (based in Edinburgh, I think) Rockstar Leeds make the PSP versions. (based in, errr... Leeds)

Complete UK job here. Does anyone really think a USA-based developer could take such a tongue-in-cheek viewpoint on US life? All GTA games are like a pisstake on the entire American dream, but Americans don't seem to realise that all GTA games just scream "look how shitty this country is"

I've got my fingers crossed for an eventual PS2 port, because I'm not buying a pissing PSP.

Can't wait for another taste of the 80s from Rockstar...

a game to bitch about is Syphon Filter! I have had this preordered for eons. Was meant to be out today but looks like delayed from anywhere between October and 2010 according to some websites. This has been delayed several times since at least June! And before anyone yaps on about getting a US version, my understanding is that the online element won't work over here.

Really, in this case it's only a few days, not the usual 6 months, so it's not a big deal.

But I still remember those spoiled american brats complaining about Loco Roco coming out in Europe first...

I don't understand what's going on with Syphon Filter, I bought the Benelux version last week. And we usually get every release after UK does - sometimes a whole month late!

USA is a single territory, unlike Europe. Logistics here are way harder. E.g there are no pan-European retailers and most European countries require the game to be translated. Furthermore, we use PAL while the US has NTSC, just like Japan. Because the NTSC market is bigger, the NTSC version is often given first priority.

That's true, I don't really know why they don't make an exception for the UK (and Scandinavia and BeNeLux). Probably because it's part of the business unit catering for Europe and they want to tackle all EU territories simultaneously or something.

Hahaha, the US speak English.. that's funny...

It's R* Leeds that are developing VCS, they dev all the PSP titles and from what my mate (who's working on it) tells me it's gonna be loads better than even VC was; not that I'm a big fan.
