Ubi dismisses Rayman rumours News

PC PlayStation 2 GameBoy Advance DS Xbox 360 Wii
News by Matt Martin

30 August, 2006

Ubisoft has confirmed to Eurogamer that Rayman Raving Rabbids will be appearing on multiple formats by the end of the year, despite claims to the contrary by our old friend Internet Reports.

Rumours have been flying that the limbless French wonder's latest adventure will be exclusive to Nintendo Wii until May next year - but that's not the case, according to a Ubi spokesperson, who told us that it "Rayman Raving Rabbids will not be exclusive to the Wii until May next year".

Apparently, the game "will be released on old and new formats before the end of 2006, with dates to be announced soon". So, thats cleared that up then.

Rayman Raving Rabbids is being developed under the watchful eye of Michel Ancel, Ubisofts jewel in the development crown, who hasnt worked on the franchise since Rayman 2 for the Nintendo 64.

Just to reiterate, the game is due out before the end of the year on DS, PS2, GBA, PC, Xbox 360... And Nintendo Wii.

Have they bothered to release any gameplay videos yet or are they marketing it entirely on it's cute factor rather than gameplay?

Rayman for Wii will feature pointless (semantics) minigames while the others focus on platforming action?

I lost interest in the Wii version once they announced it would be a party game.

BG&E isn't near as good as it's made out to be.
Too much amateur stealthy involved imo.

Would anyone really have cared if it was?

I wonder what the differences between the Wii game and other console games will be. I suppose this is one of those, "time will tell" thingies.

Yeah, my interest in this game dropped to nearly zero too when I heard it was gonna be a minigame collection and not some action adventure or something.

How on earth did you come to that conclusion?

I'd actually seen that video but must have been so horrified that I blanked it. Their use of the Wii controller doesn't really attract me so I'm interested to see what they've done with the other versions.

Rayman 2 DC is also one of my platforming faves, Rayman 3 didn't do anything for me whatsoever so when they're this cagey about showing what the game's actually about I lose interest.

Hey, just because you've not liked any party games up til now, doesnt necessarily mean this will be a bad party game.

Bear in mind who's developing it.

I have faith.

I remember reading a hands-on preview for this, just the other day, where the previewer said that he could see how this could be any fun without the use of Wiimote.

If correct, I'm curious to see what the other formats offer...

rayman minigames.. could be fun given the designer is who he is..
i would very much prefer the action adventure offer but having played and enjoyed party games with all my friends struggling for a controller.. this could actually be equally cool.
