Xbox Live top ten most played
CoD2 tops the charts.
It's official: Call of Duty 2 is the most popular Xbox 360 title currently being played via Xbox Live.
That's according to the latest Live charts, which were revealed by Microsoft's Major Nelson over on his blog. CoD2 is followed by Ghost Recon 3, then Oblivion and Battlefield 2: Modern Combat.
In fifth place it's Final Fantasy XI, then comes Project Gotham Racing 3 and Fight Night Round 3. Eighth place is occupied by the only Xbox Live Arcade title in the chart, Uno. Lurking at the bottom of the chart are Perfect Dark Zero, in ninth place, and Dead or Alive 4.
As for the original Xbox - well, Halo 2 is still the most popular game on Live, more than 18 months after its release. Battlefield 2: Modern Combat is in second place, followed by Counter-Strike, PES 5 and Splinter Cell Chaos.
The Americans are still mad for Madden, it seems - NFL 2006 is in at sixth place, despite the fact there are only eight people in the whole of Europe likely to be playing it. Rainbow Six: Black Arrow is at seven, followed by Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and Forza Motorsport. And to finish things off, we have Ghost Recon 2: Summit Strike in tenth place.

Edit: Blender, I completely agree. They do that with the sales charts as well. It's like those logic puzzles you got at school. "If Peter is 3 years older than Mark, and Mark is twice as old as Alan, and Alan will be half as old as Maurice in 6 years time, then what position was FIFA Street in the UK All Formats sales chart?"

Instead of played online, it should really read - played while online. The list is from monitoring what people are playing while connected to live. Not what they are playing over live.
basically.
EDIT: Spaling

Everyone I know has bought that damn game and what a game it is. I think I even dreamt about it last night which is the sign youve been playing it too much.
Still wasnt as bad as my Super Puzzle Fighter dreams, though. They were like something out of Jacobs Ladder.....

I also can't believe COD2 is the top game considering how awful the MP is imo, it's not a patch on GR:AW and the maps looks like they were designed for 16 players rather than the 8 it actually supports.
Still, I have GR:AW and Uno so I'm happy

Splinter Cell: Chaos? New to me.

Sounds intruiging, tell me more.

It is weird how this can be the most played game of them all while people are connected though. I could understand it if it was the most played in MP.
Have you played some of the COD2 maps on Deathmatch - fragfest city even with only 8!
Oh GOD - being repeatedly spawn-killed in GRAW in mp - agaggahhhh!
GRAW does have huge ammounts of options for mp though, and the co-op games are jolly good fun. IMO though COD2's controls are a lot better than GRAW's, but then they are almost completely different games, designed to be played very differently.

In that case No1 should be "Fuck all cos they are downloading a bloated Demo"
(followed by Gravity Wars)

Most GR:AW maps have multiple spawn points iirc, so I don't have a problem with spawncamping

Thanks for the great spelling of my name! Anyway, I find 4x4 pretty hectic at times. Some maps are better than others, but I thinkn comparing COD2 and GRAW a bit moot anyway.
I really enjoy a good game of COD2, I find it a bit more of a thinker's fragfest.
The table does seem odd though, depending on how it's calculated. I can't quite believe SO many people are still playing SO much COD2.

I never actually managed to get a full 4v4 game, there was always one or two people that dropped out - maybe I just got unlucky and teamed up with complete morons

I actually quite enjoy 2x2/3x3 just as much - it can get quite tactical.
Quality, not necessarily quantity my man!
/Anyway - play you at Table Tennis yeah?

Because one is fair use commentary, and the other is copyright theft.

well you're hardly going to be plotting world domination on your 360 are you? The typing interface with the joypads is just too slow.
I wonder if they capture info on mp3's streamed thorugh it, that would be an interesting chart

- oh and its from an REM song actually

For example, when I see a friend playing a new game, I usually ask him/her is it's any good, hoe it plays etc.
The "confidenciality freakeness" lacks a bit of sense.
binky: this sort of problem you encounter in UNO, happens also in other games ?, how fo you have your 360 set up, you've got NAT configured in your firewall ?
