Condemned PC trial News

PC News by Tom Bramwell

31 March, 2006

Fruity, psycho detective FPS Condemned: Criminal Origins is due out on the PC in a fortnight's time, and to get you in the mood SEGA and developer Monolith have put together a demo.

Available now, it's 455MB and features the first level, which introduces the player to some of his forensic tools at a murder scene and then turns into a nasty chase through a building.

As you quite probably remember, Condemned was one of the Xbox 360's launch titles, and we thought it was pretty respectable, even if some of us never quite got past laughing at the effects you could get by playing with the shadows and melee attacks - this writer's favourite being the "Hitler foot salute".

I probably shouldn't write things like that really.

was great on 360 - suspect that mouse and keyboard will make it better. But if they have reduced the handholding that would be great

Best use of 5.1 in a game I've ever heard I think.

Just tried this out and it doesn't look too bad, pretty short demo though. Runs ok as well, the auto detect seems pretty conservative. Whacked up most things to max and was still getting a fairly steady 30 fps. And even in the short demo the sound, as Furbs mentioned, does stand out as being pretty good.

Might be too scary for me though. :(

Fantastic sound and atmosphere, the people/enemies sounded like being in those rooms. The music is very non-intrusive and reminds of the Seven soundtrack and the footsteps of those people running on the floor above you are just fantastic in 5.1 surround.

Great demo, like it a lot. Great atmosphere and great graphics. Although taking away the player's ability to move in ingame cutscenes is BAD. And the fact that the correct tool gets chosen automatically is dubious.
