Extra Kameo content unveiled
Download a Santa outfit.
Rare has released the first bit of downloadable content for Xbox 360 title Kameo: Elements of Power.
The Winter Warrior pack is now available to buy on the Xbox Live Marketplace for 200 Microsoft Points. Since points are priced at £17.50 for 2100, that works out at about £1.50.
Downloading the pack allows you to dress the game's heroine in a rather fetching Santa outfit. And, er, that seems to be about it. But, you know, the skirt's very short.
And, as announced previously, there will be plenty of other stuff to choose from in the Xbox Marketplace when Xbox 360 finally hits Europe on Friday, if Kameo and/or Santa outfits don't excite you. Hurrah!

They expect you to pay for an in-game costume? That does nothing else? O_O
Another one for the 'more money than sense' brigade.

*sigh*
Surely trading standards require pricing to be transparent. Who the hell can work out in their head how much something costs with a 'points' system like that?!?! Charging so much for this santa suit (which should've been in the game in the first place) is showing just what Xbox live has become. Still could be worse, they could be charging you for a critical patch or for the last level of the game....

Now game developers will leave out stuff from their games so that hey can sell them on live after ..... gentleman let me just say it ... the future of gaming sucks !!

There used to be a time when dev's put in easter eggs that people would find and would be completely surprised that they were there, and the best part of it was that they were free.
Microtransactions my fucking arse, they can shove it!
I plead that people don't give in to their greed. Please do not buy this garbage!!
Where the hell is the heart? I'm worried for the future of the industry if dev's expect us to pay for shit like this that used to come in as extras and easter eggs for free. Fucking ridiculous.

Apart from the whole money thing, this gives me fond flashbacks of Christmas Nights.. And in fact pretty much every major Sega game with a bit of soul in it.
Shenmue santa, Sonic Adventure christmas tree, Jet Set Radio santa.. Um.. Help me out.

It's not about being forced to buy it or any bull like that, it's the fact that things like this were given as part of the game.
What i'm affraid of is that in the future, rather than dev's giving these extras as part of the game as they should be, that many will hold them back so that they can try and make a few extra by selling them on live.....
On a lot of games, the extras are a definitive part of the experience, have you ever played things like RE4, God of War, etc. The hidden stuff that come in those such examples are an important part of the experience and really give the game that extra punch and longevity.
If, in the future what we get is dev's holding back these things and then just trying to sell them for some extra cash, gaming will really have lost a definitive part of what gives the industry it's heart and soul.
Don't just take it up the backside and be happy about it.

Of course, you never complained about a bad game, because you're not exactly forced to buy these, either, right?

Glad someone pointed that out. I'm no Rare fanboy, but I'm getting tired of Ellie just lifting EG's news wholesale from other sites without bothering to check its accuracy (saw this on 1UP earlier and rolled my eyes - both old and misleading, and now EG's spreading it around).

Not even I'll be falling for this one, Blerk

We were never charged for that, were we? And those downloads were a hell of a lot better than this one sounds.

so dont download it.
if you do.
3years from now you'll get £40 a game with 3 levels and then £10 a level - trust me.

Of course it all depends if PS3 and Rev will do this as well (which I would think not). If that is the case, then Xbox Live will sink, and this will be the end of it.
Alternatively, if Sony and Nintendo copy these thoughts, then it is a direction the industry should not be going down (from a gamers point of view)

Sorry to burst yer bubble, but they are going to ask money for almost everything. I dont recall when, but to my knowledge they stated so in a press release.
Even so, paying 10 quid or so to play DC country should be nice nuff. ^_^

Fuck you Rare and MS. 1.5p for a costume how much for a new level.
stupid people will buy it thats a fact, they might think it will make the game better and longer but it dosent. its a wast of money. next-gen sucks
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Are you kidding? If Nintendo and Sony (in particular) see that Microsoft are making money from the points system you can bet your ass they will have something similar.
Premium content is going to be on every console before long.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Also people are blaming MS here when its up to the developers if they charge for this or not, most developers will still give you unlockables(they arent stupid enough to ignore the majority of gamers are not online) and with live ontop of that you can have new missions, characters and levels(this is a GOOD THING for gamers) which may or may not be free to begin with.

IMHO the only thing devs should charge for is extra gameplay content, like new episodes, maps, weapons etc. Charging for costumes seems a bit like what Mattel does for Barbie. What makes it worse is that the game is overpriced for its length and value, at least to me.
Sony won't be able to pull it off successfully as they won't have an excellent integrated online service like Live. Hopefully.

as to the price not being transparent, i doubt the system was developed just to suit sterling, but i dont see that ' a bit less than a penny' is that hard, 400 points = £3ish, 900 points = £8ish, etc - perhaps live could include a downloadable calculator for the numerically hard of thinking (and if the 'ish' is that important, work it out exactly, its good for the brain)
/hopes we arent going to have this scrap every time new micro-payment content appears
