Extra Kameo content unveiled

Download a Santa outfit.

Rare has released the first bit of downloadable content for Xbox 360 title Kameo: Elements of Power.

The Winter Warrior pack is now available to buy on the Xbox Live Marketplace for 200 Microsoft Points. Since points are priced at £17.50 for 2100, that works out at about £1.50.

Downloading the pack allows you to dress the game's heroine in a rather fetching Santa outfit. And, er, that seems to be about it. But, you know, the skirt's very short.

And, as announced previously, there will be plenty of other stuff to choose from in the Xbox Marketplace when Xbox 360 finally hits Europe on Friday, if Kameo and/or Santa outfits don't excite you. Hurrah!

They expect you to pay for an in-game costume? That does nothing else? O_O

Another one for the 'more money than sense' brigade.

"Since points are priced at £17.50 for 2100"

    *sigh*

Surely trading standards require pricing to be transparent. Who the hell can work out in their head how much something costs with a 'points' system like that?!?! Charging so much for this santa suit (which should've been in the game in the first place) is showing just what Xbox live has become. Still could be worse, they could be charging you for a critical patch or for the last level of the game....
  • Furbs #8 7 years ago

Does this make it a 6?
  • brainbird #9 7 years ago

Santa outfit? 200 points? How cool is that!?!
Especially because it has never been done before...

  • geepersd #11 7 years ago

apparantly it also includes xmas costumes for all your creatures.

still not worth buying, but a darn sight better than paying for a sims2 xmas
  • Psi #12 7 years ago

£1.50 for a different outfitt for an ingame sprite?.... dear god... i dread to think how much it would cost to clothe an entire range of selectable sprites in a beatemup...

xbox live what a wonderfull moneysink, god i hope ninty get it right with the rev...
  • Furbs #13 7 years ago

Yeah, £5 for 20 year old games sounds about right :p
  • Tonka #14 7 years ago

So these MS points, is there any way to get them besides paying for them? Will they be handed out as birthday gifts? Or when you 100% a games Live Ranking thingamajing?
  • alimokrane #15 7 years ago

Ah I see ... so that's the way Microsoft thought innovation is done in next generation ... interesting... Well since a costume is 1.5 pounds what would an extra level or I dont know something else be worth ... It's a total rip off.
Now game developers will leave out stuff from their games so that hey can sell them on live after ..... gentleman let me just say it ... the future of gaming sucks !!

    This is fucking ridiculous!!!!!

There used to be a time when dev's put in easter eggs that people would find and would be completely surprised that they were there, and the best part of it was that they were free.

Microtransactions my fucking arse, they can shove it!

I plead that people don't give in to their greed. Please do not buy this garbage!!
Where the hell is the heart? I'm worried for the future of the industry if dev's expect us to pay for shit like this that used to come in as extras and easter eggs for free. Fucking ridiculous.
  • Furbs #17 7 years ago

Dont worry, it'll never take off. How many people paid for that stupid Crazy Frog ring tone?

    Oh buggah... :/
  • symmetry #18 7 years ago

    I'l pay 1.5p for that.
  • Mirkan #19 7 years ago

You buy what you want to buy, what's everyone's problem? I also highly doubt all it gets you is a suit for Kameo herself.

Apart from the whole money thing, this gives me fond flashbacks of Christmas Nights.. And in fact pretty much every major Sega game with a bit of soul in it.

Shenmue santa, Sonic Adventure christmas tree, Jet Set Radio santa.. Um.. Help me out. :D
  • Lost_in_Darkness #20 7 years ago

Oh my god, you people will just bend over and take anything!

It's not about being forced to buy it or any bull like that, it's the fact that things like this were given as part of the game.

What i'm affraid of is that in the future, rather than dev's giving these extras as part of the game as they should be, that many will hold them back so that they can try and make a few extra by selling them on live.....

On a lot of games, the extras are a definitive part of the experience, have you ever played things like RE4, God of War, etc. The hidden stuff that come in those such examples are an important part of the experience and really give the game that extra punch and longevity.

If, in the future what we get is dev's holding back these things and then just trying to sell them for some extra cash, gaming will really have lost a definitive part of what gives the industry it's heart and soul.

Don't just take it up the backside and be happy about it.
  • brainbird #21 7 years ago

We can make jokes about it as much as we want, you know.
Of course, you never complained about a bad game, because you're not exactly forced to buy these, either, right?
  • Lagto_Soa #22 7 years ago

Glad someone pointed that out. I'm no Rare fanboy, but I'm getting tired of Ellie just lifting EG's news wholesale from other sites without bothering to check its accuracy (saw this on 1UP earlier and rolled my eyes - both old and misleading, and now EG's spreading it around).

Not even I'll be falling for this one, Blerk :)
  • tengu #25 7 years ago

Anyone remember the downloadable content you used to get for Dreamcast games(And some Xbox games too iirc)?

We were never charged for that, were we? And those downloads were a hell of a lot better than this one sounds.
  • Ninjamagic #26 7 years ago

The more you download it the more powerfull microsoft gets in money value.

    so dont download it.

    if you do.

    3years from now you'll get £40 a game with 3 levels and then £10 a level - trust me.

  • rinoaMW #27 7 years ago

the sad truth of the matter is that if you want to develop for the 360 then you have to support LIVE. And that means that you have to create content for it based around microsoft's point system (and this means pay to play, or in this case, play to see/have). This kameo 'extra' obviously constitutes that you must spend points on it, on a)being a launch title and b) Microsoft wanting to promote their points system. Give it a few months, when theres better content to pay for, and this kinda thing will be free...
  • Carrybagma #28 7 years ago

Ha! Wait until Lara Croft turns up on 360 - I wonder how many hanky-wanky fans will cough up plenty for skimpy virtual clothes.

(And Microsoft will have records of it - and tell your mum!)
  • Jeroen #29 7 years ago

This is a bit of a rip-off....what's next. A new football for FIFA? New tires for PGR3? Shirts for the right footbal season?
  • Perry #30 7 years ago

What, like 3rd "shirts" at the moment......
  • Perry #31 7 years ago

Out of all of the rants on this site, I'd say this is the one that is actually the biggest worry.

Of course it all depends if PS3 and Rev will do this as well (which I would think not). If that is the case, then Xbox Live will sink, and this will be the end of it.

Alternatively, if Sony and Nintendo copy these thoughts, then it is a direction the industry should not be going down (from a gamers point of view)
  • Xerx3s #32 7 years ago

Right, if you spend money on getting a 'sexual' thing for a game that doesnt really add to it, your pretty much over the line and beyond hope. ;p

"xbox live what a wonderfull moneysink, god i hope ninty get it right with the rev... "

Sorry to burst yer bubble, but they are going to ask money for almost everything. I dont recall when, but to my knowledge they stated so in a press release.

Even so, paying 10 quid or so to play DC country should be nice nuff. ^_^
  • captain-future #33 7 years ago

as I expected MS is desperate to get your MONEY, and I have to admit it works even on me... I bought an WAY-OVERPRICED 9.99 USD faceplate for X360...
  • ilmaestro #34 7 years ago

Yes, making people pay for something like this in the first place is probably a bad way to go. Even if you can get past that, £1.50 instead of maybe 50p is a little bit of a piss take. Still, I just can't resist the thought of Kameo in a Santa outfit... :)
  • Lothar Hex #35 7 years ago

If you think it's retarded, don't buy it. That should send a message that people aren't fucking stupid.
  • admir #36 7 years ago

this game is so fucking short and now they want us to pay for extras.
Fuck you Rare and MS. 1.5p for a costume how much for a new level.
stupid people will buy it thats a fact, they might think it will make the game better and longer but it dosent. its a wast of money. next-gen sucks
  • Kostabi #37 7 years ago

"Of course it all depends if PS3 and Rev will do this as well (which I would think not). "

Are you kidding? If Nintendo and Sony (in particular) see that Microsoft are making money from the points system you can bet your ass they will have something similar.

Premium content is going to be on every console before long.
  • Calgon #38 7 years ago

Pah fanboys this will be free in a couple of months... they will make money off the people that must have everything first(rich and spoilt... this means more money for the next game they make), I never payed for any Xbox live content myself I waited and got it all free.

Also people are blaming MS here when its up to the developers if they charge for this or not, most developers will still give you unlockables(they arent stupid enough to ignore the majority of gamers are not online) and with live ontop of that you can have new missions, characters and levels(this is a GOOD THING for gamers) which may or may not be free to begin with.

  • Talha #39 7 years ago

Well I see nothing wrong with Rare trying to charge for this thing. However, everything IS wrong with people who go out and buy it!

IMHO the only thing devs should charge for is extra gameplay content, like new episodes, maps, weapons etc. Charging for costumes seems a bit like what Mattel does for Barbie. What makes it worse is that the game is overpriced for its length and value, at least to me.

Sony won't be able to pull it off successfully as they won't have an excellent integrated online service like Live. Hopefully.
  • thegamesthething #40 7 years ago

basically, extra payable content post release can be a good thing, provided its good value for money, extends enjoyment of the game, and is not something you would expect to receive with the game anyway

as to the price not being transparent, i doubt the system was developed just to suit sterling, but i dont see that ' a bit less than a penny' is that hard, 400 points = £3ish, 900 points = £8ish, etc - perhaps live could include a downloadable calculator for the numerically hard of thinking (and if the 'ish' is that important, work it out exactly, its good for the brain)

/hopes we arent going to have this scrap every time new micro-payment content appears
  • Celeborn #41 7 years ago

The problem I have with this is that its named as "Winter Warrior Pack"; since when has just 1 thing been refered to as a "pack"? Let alone just 1 texture
  • Lagto_Soa #42 7 years ago

Look. Here. Seeing as EG can't be arsed reporting it.
