Forbidden Siren movie planned News

PlayStation 2 News by Ellie Gibson

30 September, 2005

News has emerged that a big screen adaptation of Sony Computer Entertainment's Siren - known as Forbidden Siren over here - is set to hit Japanese cinemas next spring.

Like the PS2 survival horror title, it's set on the fictional island of Yamijama, where all inhabitants are instructed to stay indoors whenever a mysterious siren sounds. A young girl - played by Yui Ichikawa, best known for her role as Chiharu in Ju-on - finds herself caught up in a world of terror as she uncovers the dark secret behind the siren.

The film will be helmed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi, who's directed many hit Japanese TV shows including Psychometer Eiji and Trick, and it's been shot entirely in Japan.

Siren was released over there nearly two years ago, and its launch was marked by controversy after adverts for the game scared little kiddies so witless that Sony had to stop showing them. A sequel is currently in development and is down for a Japanese release on February, alongside the film.

Sony has confirmed that Forbidden Siren 2 is getting a European release, and from what we've seen so far it's going to be very, very frightening in a very good way. It's not yet known whether the Siren movie will get a cinematic release over here, but you can almost certainly expect an American remake in about a year or so. Probably starring that lesbian one off The O.C. And Lemar. Or something.

mattius30 = wimp.

I loved Forbidden Siren, and I especially loved how hard it was! Not to mention it was bloody scary at times... bring on the sequel! And boo-hiss to American remake. I'll pick up the Japanese movie with subtitles when it gets a DVD release...

Forbidden Siren would have been good if it wasn't for the really bad voice acting in the UK.

Why put bad english toff voices when the original language will do?

Hopefully Sony will leave in an option to change language tracks this time.

Plus you just made my day by confirming the second game will come to Europe. Commence being very very excited. Plus if you all have'nt gone to the official Jap site and watched the trailer then shame on you. The environments seem to be alot more varied and larger than the small isolated areas you moved through in the first game.

One thing I loved in the first game was the genuine fragility of the characters you played as, and its power to shock at the drop of a hat.

@ Vegard:

I just think the Japanese are great at this kind of thing. Americans seem to sanitise it almost - gloss it up, Hollywood-cross-breeding really doesn't float my boat.

I always prefer to see the original.

I'm beggining to hate the Resi series now, because of them I can't enjoy any other survival horror game now. I've played the Silent Hill and Project Zero games and as scary as they are I just keep finding myself being drawn back too Resi 4.

Anyway what's this Forbidden Siren game all about? What does it play like?
