B&W2 gets release date
It's out here in October.
A post on the Lionhead Studios forum has confirmed that forthcoming PC god sim Black & White 2 will be in the shops this autumn.
"The game will be released in stores on September 30th in the US, and October 7th in Europe," the post reads.
"This is official. We are almost finished."
As you'll know if you read our recent preview, B&W2 is being billed - by Peter Molyneux himself, no less - as "a completely different game" to the original, "But in the same sort of universe."
Which means a completely rewritten engine, a bigger emphasis on moral dilemmas and real-time strategy, and of course a new selection of creatures to choose from and train. Roll on October...

I'll wait for a B&W 2 demo before getting excited about it. Then I'll read a few reviews. Then I might see if I can borrow a copy from someone. I'm extremely cagey about B&W after the first one, as are many people I think.

I don't understand your point about a conversion not being needed. The platform isn't really relevant here. The US version will be in English, plus maybe Spanish. The European version will have a stack more languages, hence the extra delay in localising.
As far as them being an all powerful "biggest publisher", they still have to draw the line somewhere. They could delay the US release I guess so they all turn up at once, but why would they?

To set your release dates simultaneously on the basis that your localisation will get done on schedule may well result in a delayed release for versions that could have gone to market sooner. Some companies get it right sometimes of course, like your example, but for others that simply isn't the way to work. If one thing is true about this industry, its that there is not that much standardisation of work methods. So knowing the workings of one company doesn't necessarily tell you much about the way other companies do things.
