B&W2 gets release date

It's out here in October.

A post on the Lionhead Studios forum has confirmed that forthcoming PC god sim Black & White 2 will be in the shops this autumn.

"The game will be released in stores on September 30th in the US, and October 7th in Europe," the post reads.

"This is official. We are almost finished."

As you'll know if you read our recent preview, B&W2 is being billed - by Peter Molyneux himself, no less - as "a completely different game" to the original, "But in the same sort of universe."

Which means a completely rewritten engine, a bigger emphasis on moral dilemmas and real-time strategy, and of course a new selection of creatures to choose from and train. Roll on October...

Since Lionhead is a European firm, why are we Europeans getting the shaft from the US and Lionhead?? :(

Anyone else wonder why this game is so underhyped, compared to the first and Fable? Did someone shut Peter's mouth for good?

I seem to recall that Lionhead now surround him with a small army of PR reps at all public occasions.

Also... WHERE THE HELL IS MY 'THE MOVIES'!!!!

    populus----over rated
    black and white---over rated
    fable ---way over rated

  • Inquisitor #10 7 years ago

You say Fable was over rated, I think it was one of the best RPG's I've ever played. Over hyped maybe, but that doesn't detract from how good the game is.
  • bootsy_NL_30 #11 7 years ago

fair enough, glad to hear you enjoyed it I just couldnt stand the press releases around the game and the way it was really being shoveled down x-box users throats as "the best x-box rpg" .....hate to make a comparison , but Kotor was so much better and so much more an rpg than fable ever was,and who made that game? I mean who was the guy heading up the whole package? I have no idea....whoever he was he was a hell of alot less pretentious than peter populus molyneux.

Fable is better than KOTOR. In my opinion. Much better. By leagues.

I'll wait for a B&W 2 demo before getting excited about it. Then I'll read a few reviews. Then I might see if I can borrow a copy from someone. I'm extremely cagey about B&W after the first one, as are many people I think.

Looking forward to this one (and 'The Movies'). I wonder what the rec. system spec will be ?

You'd think the biggest pulblisher in the galaxy could give thier biggest game of the year a global release, espcially since it's a PC game so there's no conversian needed.
  • kangarootoo #15 7 years ago

Damn thats a lot of typos ;)

I don't understand your point about a conversion not being needed. The platform isn't really relevant here. The US version will be in English, plus maybe Spanish. The European version will have a stack more languages, hence the extra delay in localising.

As far as them being an all powerful "biggest publisher", they still have to draw the line somewhere. They could delay the US release I guess so they all turn up at once, but why would they?
  • Freek #16 7 years ago

That's just poor planning, you should be doing that while you're implementing the rest of the languages. Wich is usually what EA does do, I know this becuase one of the journalists of a games mag I read is also a language converter for EA, he wrote a bitt about it his work on Sim City 4.

ok well everyone has a different opinion I guess.I have to admit I am curious about the PC version of Fable and am hoping that its more open ended than the x-box version...the movies is really a very cool idea if that turns out half as good as it looks I'm getting it.
  • kangarootoo #18 7 years ago

I agree. Good planning includes the possibility that things won't get done on time. Poor planning assumes everything is going to be OK.

To set your release dates simultaneously on the basis that your localisation will get done on schedule may well result in a delayed release for versions that could have gone to market sooner. Some companies get it right sometimes of course, like your example, but for others that simply isn't the way to work. If one thing is true about this industry, its that there is not that much standardisation of work methods. So knowing the workings of one company doesn't necessarily tell you much about the way other companies do things.
