Saints Row DLC

Eye patch, clothes, etc.

As promised a few weeks ago, THQ and Volition have released a bit of extra content for decent-enough Grand Theft Auto clone Saints Row.

The "Funky Fresh Pack" - seriously? - costs 100 Microsoft points and consists of several items of clothing, some tats and hairstyles and whatnot, for use in both single- and multiplayer modes.

You've also got some tiger stripes underwear in there, crazy bunny slippers, and most importantly an eye patch, which next to the samurai helmet, medallions and rattlesnake tattoos is probably the classiest of the bunch.

For more on Saints Row, check out our review; there's also a demo available on Live Marketplace.

What crap...where is something actually worthwhile?
  • Stormflood #3 5 years ago

Ah bless. I didn't know SR was aimed at the Barbie crowd. Can you also download a disco outfit and a pony cart?

New cars and side missions would be appreciated, as this is a fantastic game.

The changing of cloths idea is cool but why an Eye patch and samurai helmet.

Sorry to anybody with one eye...!

Great news, most of it will probably be crap but who cares. Its all fun. My bloke could do with a new look. He's all pimped out at the moment, with the Pimp cane and everything!

And what about the fix for Widescreen. Quickly pleeeeease.

On certain tv's the game does not go into widescreen. it worked on the demo, but not the full release.

what "fix for widescreen"? whats wrong with it?
  • Darren #9 5 years ago

The eye patch DOES add a little respect so it's useful (it adds +12 if I recall correctly) and the spikey leather jacket is obviously awesome but apart from that there's little else of interest. The Samurai helmet might have been more useful had the rest of the armour been available as well. And I really don't see the point of the underwear at all unless people enjoy running around in just them and nothing else! LOL

@Dbeamish - There's an issue with some widescreen TVs apparently that results in the game running in stetch-o-vision 4:3 instead.

This next patch interests me greatly if only because the developers are adding an optional v-sync switch for the cutscenes and/or the game. This should please Eurogamer immensely and me if no-one else. The patch will also add 4x AA for standard definition users (apparently it was removed in error when the developers dropped the anti-alasing down from 4x AA in the demo to 2x AA for hi-def users in order to improve the framerate).

Can't wait personally. The game was great fun anyway; only the v-sync tearing spoilt it in a major way for me.

"New cars and side missions would be appreciated"

Quite right. I've played a fair bit of SR and I found that I bought extra kit on the basis that it increased my respect multiplier. Consequently my character is pretty much head to toe in purple. If swapping his pants for a tigerstripe variety is going to reduce my multiplier than I am really not interested. A groovy new car or some additional activity types however I AM interested in.

Regarding the eyepatch, can it be worn at the same time as shades? Again, if it can't then I'm just not interested as the pimp shades my character has are so worth a lot more than a measly +12.

Volition seem to have confused their title with Sims.

I'd prefer a free patch for the disappearing cars and other glitches thank you very much!

@ kangarootoo or any body who can help me

Have you got passed the mission where you have to protect the vans from being destroyed by the Blue gang (Sorry could not remember the cool gang name) as I cant seem to complete it...

    Ahhh.
  • penhalion #14 5 years ago

You need to be packing a rocket launcher with lots of ammo otherwise they will get the trucks.

Also don't shoot near the trucks as you will end up taking them out by accident.

Don't let your car disappear.....this is a tough one to achieve ;)

    @Disc: +1

Totally agree. It is blatant cashing-in. The value of the item on offer is in no way related to the price.

Of course noone forces us to buy this stuff, but it is nagging that they dare charge for content that only takes a few hours for them to create and then sell it on the strength of their existing game/franchise to thousands of people.

"The "Funky Fresh Pack" costs 100 Microsoft points and consists of some tat"

Doesn't come with a patch for the multiplayer then?
  • S.J.Rogers #17 5 years ago

    Thanks: penhalion

I will give it another go tonight and i will fill the car with my crew members and let them fire wildley at the cars.

    100 points.

Seriously the marketplace stuff is taking the piss.

Mark my words, 'micro-transactions' combined with increasing complexity and cost of hardware will cause the next 'video-game crash'. They'll gradually remove more and more from the 'finished' product to try and bleed extra revenue.

    "100 points.

100 points is about 80p. I'm not saying its worth it, buts its hardly breaking the bank is it. You could spend more on a can of cola at a burger van.
  • Tyronne #21 5 years ago

Thing is the can of drink serves a purpose...these `dress my gang man` clothes sets are worthless...

"Content that does not actually add gameplay = Free."

But most of the cost of games nowadays goes on graphics anyway.

Only a small proportion of a modern game's budget goes on developing the actual gameplay, the rest goes on visual effects, textures, design work etc etc.

The way your character dresses might not effect the gameplay (except extra respect), but it does enhance the way you enjoy playing the game. It's a Barbie-effect for sure, but it's still out there.
