New PS2 Tales RPG News

PlayStation 2 News by Tom Bramwell

29 July, 2005

Namco is planning to announce a new PS2 instalment in its Tales RPG series, according to reports.

Various US websites claim that the next title in the series will be Tales of the Abyss, and confirmation and details are expected in a forthcoming issue of Jump Magazine in Japan.

The Tales series has been long-running and has enjoyed critical acclaim recently on the GameCube, whose Tales of Symphonia is held in high esteem around here. It's set to return on PSP and PS2 later this year in Tales of Eternia and Tales of Legendia respectively.

With Legendia still yet to be released in the US, the suggestion is that Abyss won't be released until sometime in 2006 - leading some commentators to speculate that it will be the last Tales RPG for the current generation of consoles.

Potentially good news! Let's just hope the plot and characters in the new games don't make my genericometer explode again. Couldn't be arsed to finish Symphonia because I wasn't interested in the story or any of the protagonists. Well, except for Sheena who is both hot and a ninja! Wahoo!

Thanks for the scan Firewine. Looks really sweet.

I too liked the characters and plot of ToS. It'll be too bad if Namco doesn't release either one of the new titles in here as regardless of having access to the import version or not, i can't really read japanese for sh*t.

Tales of the Abyss??? That's a bit tame and sensible isn't it? I was expecting something daft along the lines of "Tales of Mythologia", "Tales of Fictionia" or even possibly "Tales of Notforreleaseineuropia"

On the the other hand I'm well up for this and Legendia after Symphonia...

I have nothing but restrained anger towards Namco these days.

"Europeans won't understand Katamari but you'll love Death by Degrees, right?"

Bah! Namco BAH!!

Still not got around to playing Tales of Symphonia which I know is a crime! Nice to hear about this though... I expect one of the benefits of everyone moving on the the next gen will be that I'll have a chance to catch up with this one!

Fire Emblem does look very good, in both forms. Both are buy-upon-release for me.
