Third XenoSaga on the way?

Could be. Unconfirmed.

Namco appears to be working on a third instalment in the XenoSaga RPG series judging by an update on a Japanese voice actor's website.

IGN reports that a translation of Koji Tsujitani's latest personal website reveals the Japanese actor is providing the voice of Voyager.

XenoSaga, originally expected to stretch to six episodes, is one of the highest profile PS2 RPG series never to trouble European shores. Although the Namco-developed title appeared in the US and became quite popular on import, it had thought to be done for after the second instalment proved relatively disappointing in the eyes of its fans.

hahar, with blu-ray as medium we can expect 120+ hours of FMV.

They cut a lot of good story stuff out of Episode 2, so they should have plenty of material to work with for Episode 3.

None of this would have been a problem if they'd been truly faithful to the XenoGears style and not just the story (well, elements of it anyway). Saga should have been a beautiful transition between old-school and the modern, but instead it is the ultimate example of why modern 'RPGs' have lost everything that made the classics brilliant.

Unfortunately, the level of artwork in the Xenosaga animated series was pretty mediocre. Personally you'd be better off watching the compilation of the cutscenes, they look much nicer.

Was that an OVA or something? Couldn't be bothered looking up the details now, but what you're saying sounds like the opposite of the .Hack//SIGN situation. Great series, crap games. So far. In saying that, I haven't seen Twilight, or whayever the other series is called.

EDIT: By the by, I think the XenoSagas are entertaining, decent games. Just wish they'd been done differently.

In Xenosaga 3 Chaos should fight The King of All Cosmos to get his bulge back.
  • Scimarad #11 7 years ago

About bloody time! Actually, it hasn't really been that long since the second one TBH - I'm just impatient:-)

No, Xenosaga The Animation was a half-season TV anime. .hack//Twilight doesn't really add much to the overall .hack experience, it's more like a gaiden (side story) but with less plot and more fanservice.

Well, you could always go for the legit alternative and just import a US PStwo, seeing as how they have internationally compatible power adaptors. Might be an idea to wait until all the hue and cry over the PSP has calmed down though, since Sony Europe are destroying importers left right and centre.

Yeah, XS1 was pure bliss, i love cutscenes me *cuddles mgs/xg/xs* and had a great story, good gameplay and just allround goodness, XS2 was good in cutscenes, story was abit sparse, and gameplay was dire... or not there... who cares it was crap
  • Scimarad #16 7 years ago

Actually I thought the gameplay in Xenosaga2 was way better than 1 - I actually understood the battle system this time around I wasn't subjected to a long drawn out animation everytime I used a combat move. I really don't see how anyone can prefer the system in XS1.
  • Feanor #17 7 years ago

Yeah, I also liked the battle system in XS2. Boost combos where you knocked a boss into the air and then hit him a dozen times in a row were awesome.

Exactly - In a word; Fun

I got this Mail from NamcoUK one month ago:

"We are hoping to release Xenosaga II for Europe but this has not been
confirmed at present, so unfortunately I am unable to answer your questions
relating to the first Xenosaga. I would suggest that you contact me again
in a months time and hopefully I will have more information for you!

    Kind regards,

    Namco Ltd., Consumer Division"

So have you written back, then? :-)

The first Xenosaga appeared on a recent Spanish press release from SCEE that someone linked in the forums, but as we haven't seen any kind of confirmation since then I'd figured it was a mistake. Maybe not?

    No, perhaps this weekend. :-)

No answer of NAMCO however I found that:

"Those who buy the newly-released European version of Tekken 5 will not only be privy to Namco's latest offering in its flagship fighting series, but will also receive a catalogue that promises a European release of Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Böse. This release will mark the first time that a title in the series has been released in Europe, including the title that the Xenosaga series is loosely based on, Xenogears.

Other than the revelation that the European version is "Coming Soon," no specific release date has been mentioned. As always, RPGamer will report when more specifics are unveiled."

    Curious.

Surely it's madness to release episode II without first releasing episode I?
  • weltenbrand #24 7 years ago

A new mail from NAMCO UK

    "Hi,

    Thank you for your email.

I am pleased to tell you that we do have every intention in releasing this
title for Europe but I am afraid that nothing has been officially confirmed
    as yet.

    Kind regards,

    Namco Ltd., Consumer Division"

    we have to wait :-((
  • Blerk #25 7 years ago

Well, there's still hope then, I guess! Thanks for the update, weltenbrand! :-)
