Tecmo double-confirms Halo character's inclusion in DOA4

Unlockable character and stage.

Tecmo and Bungie have confirmed-confirmed that Spartan-458 (sorry, we kept forgetting the hyphen) and the Halo level glimpsed in leaked screenshots will both be unlockable items in Dead or Alive 4.

Apparently Bungie's Pete Parsons and Tomonobu Itagaki from Team NINJA (sorry, we kept forgetting the capitals) met at E3 t'other year and said, "Hey, we should swap genes!"

"The opportunity to work with Team Ninja and combine our powers to strike yet another blow in our quest for world domination, was too alluring to pass up," Pete Parsons told Game Informer's January issue ['tells', surely? - Ed]. "Plus, we just think the idea of putting a Spartan into a DOA game totally kicks ass." Well there is that.

"Think about it for a second: do you honestly believe there is anything out there that can’t be accomplished with the technologies of Bungie and Team NINJA put together?" added Tomonobu Itagaki. Well yeah, but we certainly like the idea of beating up a Master Chief lookalike in DOA4, so good work on that eh?

Master Chief is far too gay to be included in DOA4

The two most anti-mod companies come together in a joyous harmonious gathering. Cant wait to see what somoene will do with reskinning the level and character.

    "World Peace?"

There is a way to get world peace, but i doubt anyone is willing to take that path. Although, them yanks seem to take it with a suv.

When you consider Namco went the whole hog with Nintendo and X-Box characters (Link and Spawn respectively), getting the permissions to use the characters... I'm sorry, this "step" is not nearly big enough to be anything near news. Spartan-458, big deal - an obscure Master Chief-alike, which doesn't look like a woman at all.

They should have gone the whole way, and done a deal to chuck Master Chief and Cortana in there. THAT would have made me buy it. Instead, I'll wait for Alan Wake...

"Instead, I'll wait for Alan Wake..."

LOL. Most unexpected alternative to DOA4 ever methinks :)

Maybe Spartan-458 does a Samus Aran and on winning the fight and strips down to a bikini? (venus? lol)

    /Scary thought that! (Especially with 458 being a Master chief look-a-like) o_0

But I'm looking forward to Alan Wake more than DOA4. They haven't "swapped games", this is a lame and feeble attempt at getting another female into the series - as I said, if they were absolutely serious we'd be seeing Master Chief and Cortana taking their places in the fighting.

But I guess because it doesn't "fit" with either series, they shyed from it. Bloody shame. I would have paid to see Cortana kicking Master Chief's ass...

    Isn't she a hologram, though?
  • Kami #14 7 years ago

So was Andromeda, didn't stop them finding a plot device to give her a cybernetic body though, did it?

    ...

    OK, that was depressingly sad...

The only female character in DOA4 that doesn't have bouncing body parts - quite an achievement!
  • Hunam85 #17 7 years ago

because cyborg things fit into the doa world...
  • Kami #18 7 years ago

I'm sure they'd find a way to fit in a cyborg female with big breasts.

Never stopped Namco putting Link in the 'Cube version of SC2. He didn't "fit" into the game or it's story, but was still great fun to kick some arse with bombs and arrows - not to mention the Master Sword!

Point is, this "character" is just a very loose and pathetic link across to Halo. It's not far enough and doesn't scream "Business" to me. If you're going to put in a character from another game, Namco demonstrated it in the right way - take some known names (Link, Spawn and Heihachi - ok, they own Heihachi but valid for the other two) and work them in. And I thought they did an excellent job in that department.

Spartan-458 as a character just seems as though they're playing it safe - which doesn't make me think "I wanna play that" and also makes me ask, "So what is so wrong with the game that they can't put in Master Chief and Cortana..." - it's not a sign of confidence in DOA4 really...

It's just not far enough. It's a tenuous and loose link which can be severed in an emergency...

... Or maybe its just a fun little gimmick?
  • Kami #20 7 years ago

Which then brings us back to the question - why not go the full hog on the gimmic and give the fans at least Cortana? I mean, let's be reasonable here... Cortana was what everyones money was on. It seemed so damn obvious... and we get Spartan-458? Err... OK... unless it's Cortana in MC-alike armour... not in the slightest bit convinced...
