Prince of Persia for PSP News

PSP News by Ellie Gibson

28 September, 2005

Ubisoft has announced that a PSP instalment in the Prince of Persia series is currently in development, releasing the first screenshots of the game too.

Titled simply as Prince of Persia PSP for now, the game is being developed by Pipeworks, whose previous titles include Godzilla: Save the Earth (Xbox, PS2) and Rampage: Total Destruction (Gamecube, PS2).

According to Ubisoft, PoP PSP "builds on" last year's PoP Warrior Within with original content such as additional puzzles, new maps and redesigned levels.

It follows the adventures of our hero as he attempts to avoid the Dahaka and his preordained death, using the "free-form fighting system" and "an all-new projectile attack system" to deck everyone who gives him any trouble.

We're promised "astounding variations in fighting gameplay", plus new ways of using the Sands of Time and bonus rewards when you complete the game.

Prince of Persia PSP will hit the shops in December.

Then again, I am hopelessly in love with anything with the name PoP on it - might even get a PSP.

Well I usually would be one of the many to jump on the 'oh no not another PS2 to PSP rehash' but after Burnout Legends and Ridge Racer I'm pretty much won over. Sure its probably the same game as before, but its on a handheld and its got new levels and things to do on it. As Burnout Legends shows these 'ports' are made for existing fans to get even more out of their favourite titles. Personally I can only see this as a great thing. I might pick this up.

It's a version of Warrrior Within, not being unique enough is the verry least of it's problems.

They should have based it on Sands of Time. That would have fixed the lack of sales complaint - nevermind the dumbass marketing and stuff like that.

We can only hope that this version goes some way towards giving WW some of the magic that its predecessor (SoT) had in spades.

I have been having difficulty understanding why some people have such a problem with popular licences appearing on PSP - is that not exactly what the GBA does? You got your countless Nintendo games like Mario and you also have GBA versions of big-console games like Spider-man, Kingdom Hearts, Tomb Raider etc etc. At least with the PSP we're getting games in glorious 3D and CD quality sound rather than weird 2D, cut-down ports.

I hated WW. SoT was way better than this garbage.

'I hated WW. SoT was way better than this garbage.'

I would hesitate to call WW garbage, but when you compare it to SoT it's difficult not to agree.

Ok, perhaps a bit too harsh, but I didn't even finish it because of the frustration level (WHERE IN THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO GO NOW? factor). It sucks.
