Wireless Guitar Hero controllers next month! News

PlayStation 2 News by Tom Bramwell

27 October, 2006

RedOctane has announced that it will release proper, official wireless Guitar Hero controllers in the US next month, and they'll cost just US$ 59.99.

They will be compatible with either Guitar Hero 1 or 2 (the latter's due out next month in the US and Europe), and we're assured that they use the same mechanism, and have been created to the same high quality as the wired Guitar Hero SG controllers.

They're also going to be white, we're told (I don't know why I did that in italics either), but it's not clear whether the actual shape has changed at all.

It's also yet to be confirmed whether the wireless controllers will be released in Europe, so we'll be nagging our friends at RedOctane on a daily basis until we know for sure.

"RedOctane has long been committed to offering high-quality videogame accessories for gamers," said Dusty Welch, head of publishing at RedOctane.

"Being able to give our fans an option to rock the wireless guitar controller was definitely a priority for us, and it'll provide another exciting experience for players to achieve rock star status!"

Look out for our Guitar Hero II review very soon, and in the meantime why not check out our extensive hands-on preview?

I was about to write the same comment, Eighthours.

This means I'll be getting the "solus" version for PS2, then when he 360 version comes I'll be selling GH1&2+guit and getting 2 wireless guitars + 360 version.

I'm going to end up with a huge pile of guitar controllers, between this and the 360 version. Far from a bad thing though.

Hmmm... Reckon that they just picked the 360 version then and altered the transmission stuff (?)

Does anybody know when we can expect a 360 version? I know it's coming, but why isn't there a release date yet? The game itself seems to be quite easy to port.

Or will the 360 version be entirely different from the normal Guitar Heroes II version? Different songs etc.? That would be a shame, because I'd love to play Thunderhorse.

How many batteries does it require?
Or does it have a Lithium battery?

Also, what's the range? I want to rock out whilst running around the whole house...and garden...

Still have NO idea why people want wireless guitars... REAL guitars have wires dangling out of them!

That's right! all except the wireless guitars...

Dude, no guitars have wires. Cables and radio packs are entirely seperate. Most guitarists have no use for radio kits. You start looking all pretentious and 80s if you pull out stuff like that. Its a good idea for the game though as guitar cables are often 20ft or more.

The PS2 has wireless pads, the Mega Drive did too. It's just a simple matter of plugging a reciever into the pad port, thats all

@LetsGo

Don't put yourself off if you haven't tried it. Go into a shop and ask if they will stick it on for 10 mins. No-one should dismiss this game without giving it a fair run.
